Pinnacle golf balls have long been a very popular ball brand for millions of amateur golfers around the world. Owned and operated by Acushnet, the same parent company behind the ever popular Titleist golf balls, Pinnacle has continually offered a quality option for the player looking to spend less than it costs for a high performance golf ball. For 2016 they have brought two new models to the market with the Rush and Soft golf balls.
Information from Pinnacle:
Rush
The new Pinnacle Rush is designed with a proprietary high-energy core technology that produces fast ball speed for extraordinary distance on all full swing shots.
Rush uses an advanced icosahedral dimple design with 332 dimples to deliver a consistent, powerful ball flight, while its soft, durable ionomer cover provides great feel.
Soft
The new Pinnacle Soft is engineered with a high-energy, extremely low compression core – Pinnacle’s lowest compression core ever – that delivers extremely soft feel along with low spin for long distance.
The proprietary core formulation combines with an incredibly soft ionomer cover to produce the softest-feeling Pinnacle ever made. Soft’s advanced icosahedral dimple design with 332 dimples ensures an ideal, consistent flight.
Similar to what tends to be the case with most golf ball releases, Pinnacle has produced two different lines here to help pinpoint the perfect ball for any given player. Those players who are looking for pure distance will probably enjoy what the Rush golf ball is all about. Rush’s construction from the high energy core, to the ionomer cover, is focused on maximizing ball speed which of course leads to distance. The sound of the Rush off of just about every club was a distinguishable loud click. That click leads to the sensation that the Rush is a fairly firm golf ball, also one that is providing a little extra boost in yardage.
With the Rush being billed as the pure distance ball, the Soft is a more viable option for those players who tend to prefer a more muted sound coming from their golf ball. Carrying some similar characteristics and construction as its sibling offering, the Rush, there are indeed some structural differences. However, the most noticeable difference players will notice is the less pronounced click sound at contact. The ionomer cover will not provide enough short game spin to get this ball confused with golf balls that carry a tour urethane cover, however it does present a different feel than the Pinnacle Rush. In fact the cover used on the Soft is the softest cover that Pinnacle has ever utilized in the company’s rich history.
Choosing a golf ball is a very personal choice. Without going through a ball fitting and getting an accurate idea of what the golf ball is doing for one’s game, it comes down to a number of factors such as feel, perceived performance and price. Given the option of putting both of these offerings from Pinnacle in play, the biggest differential between the balls is going to be the sound. Rush and Soft both offer solid performance in terms of distance. After giving playing partners the opportunity to play with the latest from Pinnacle, more players chose Soft. The biggest reason cited for that choice was the perception that it had a better feel.
Let’s face the facts, there are millions of golfers out there, and not all of them want to pay the price for a premium ball, or don’t see the benefit to playing a golf ball that costs north of $40 for a dozen. That does not mean that there is not a golf ball out on the market that can assist in gaining distance or providing a soft feel around the greens. Priced at $15.99 a dozen for either model, the Pinnacle Rush and Pinnacle Soft are both viable options for that golfer. When looking for these on the store shelves, consumers will also have the option of playing the Rush in traditional white or optic yellow, while the Soft can purchased in optic pink, white with pink stampings, as well as the normal white. More information on both of these golf balls is available at www.pinnaclegolf.com.
Thanks for the write-up. A sleeve of the Softs are sitting on my desk, I’ll have to give them a try soon.
We just got these in the pro shop a few weeks ago and they are selling like crazy. Rush Whites outsell the Rush Yellow about 4 to 1 and the Rush overall outsells the Soft 6 to 1 at Painted.
Nice review and nice to see some changes to a ball many arms reach for when not looking to spend big cash on oremium balls.
I like both balls. I agree the soft does not click like the rush.
I get about 15 yards more with my driver. I’m on more greens in regulation.
I’m not great for distance with irons but I picked up about 8 more yards.
At 63, with a crooked right arm It’s fun having more reasonable opportunities to reach greens in regulation.
Putting for birdies now and making more tap in pars.
play the yellow gold and rush. 10 yds with driver longer than provx, callaway warbird, taylor pro preferred and bridestone 330 rx . They release about 9 ft longer on a full 9 iron shot to a normal green. I will add I.m 71 ,still a low handicap, and shot my age and better in the last month since I turned 71. Was in the top 20 Ams in Mo. when I was 31 ranked by the KC. star and st.louis dispatch news papers. I say give them a try.
i love the feel and the distance of the pinnacle soft. pee-knuckles, as my buddies call them. i think i’ve finally settled on that one ball i’m going to use most of the time. i’m about a sixteen handicap from the whites, but my buddies play from the senior tees, so i do as well. i’m pushing seventy but my standard drive is still 235 to 250 with the softs. the soft has a wonderful feel off my taylor made driver and nike slingshot irons, and around the green. to me, by far the best soft golf ball for me for the price.
18-20 handicap and played the Rush for 9 holes and shot a best 39, 3 over. Found this Rush Pinnacle at a tournament last week. Did not have my Titlest NXT’s or TP5’s with me. Always a big Pinnacle fan from back in the day and pulled this out of the bag for a quick 9. Wow! The distance was amazing and coming off my irons with great distance. Was able to hit a Par 3 at 175 with my 7 iron. I’m 52 years old and the distance normally use my 6 hybrid at this distance. Used my gap on two holes at 130 yards out and reached the green with no problems. Was one of the games with no buddies around to witness my best score for 9 holes. Going out tomorrow to buy a whole dozen. Hopefully can replicate the round.
I love the pinnacle Soft. First time I tried them I got a hole in one.Really felt soft and smooth.I made a 143 yard shot with a 7 iron to roll in the hole. What a surprise it was.Being a 71 year old lefty with a bad back, I want to thank Pinnacle for producing an outstanding product that works for older people like me.PS. my handicap is a meager 19
I found a Rush and played it thru a round. My friends are pROV1 snobs a didnt give the Rush much appreciation.
I love it and shoot very well with it. I think i found a new ball. It is long but i have no issues with the 56 wedge.
I found a yellow Pinnacle Rush and liked the feel. On an elevated green par 3 162, I got my first ace with this ball using a 7 iron. Nice feel off of my irons. Putting it has a smooth feel too.
i try and try and try to find a better ball for my game (5.5 hcap) but i keep coming back to pinn soft. it has the perfect balance of feel for me; not a rock, not a marshmallow. of course it’s long off the tee, but it also feels great off the irons. the thing that brings me back is chipping and putting. for some reason soft urethane balls have little feeling to me. i like to feel i’m hitting something. pinn soft makes it’s way thru greenside grass far better than urethane, and putting is amazing as well. being a senior, the short game is of utmost importance. pinn soft makes it happen for me! (um, anybody wanna buy 5 dozen new chromesofts? cheap?)
I am writing to you because I got a hole in one at Normanside Country Club on 9/06/19. It was 6 hole 156 yds. Playing a pinnacle Rush golf ball At the age of 74 I like them a lot Thank Bob
Congrats Bob that is fantastic! I have a GC for Normanside that I haven’t been able to use yet, and I’m still chasing that first hole in one. Maybe I can replicate your shot
I am a beginner at 52 and really love the Rush ball. Played with a foursome last weekend and they made several comments on how good the ball sounded off my irons. Just like I new what I was doing. Thanks for making an affordable ball here in America that make even beginners look good.
Garry.colledge I found one of these things on golf course . Figured why not try it . Figured it would hit like a brick . Was really surprised . It goes well and bites good on the green . Now I am impressed with this ball and will buy some . Just in case you think this sounds like a normal weekend golfer . You are wrong . Iplay a 5 handicap . These will give a premium ball a run for the money .
To Bob Isby above: Congratulations! I too am 74 with a 13.5 handicap and I have not in recent years hit a golf ball longer than the Rush. I literally get about 15 yards further off the tee box.
