Adlens Sundials offer an interesting way to solve vision related problems on the golf course or during any outdoor endeavor. Through adjustable lens technology, they allow users to quickly dial in what they need to see, whether it is near or far all while providing UVA and UVB protections.
Sundials
Adlens is the global leader in variable focus eyewear: an innovation in optics that mimics the adjustable power of the human eye.
Adlens Sundials uses Alvarez lens technology, a continuously adjustable solution for over 90% of eyeglass and contact lens wearers. Each lens can be adjusted independently for near, distance and intermediate vision.
For centuries the power of lenses have been static, this is how we have had to learn to see the world. Vision is, however, dynamic, ever-changing throughout our life. This is why Adlens® has developed variable focus eyewear, a new category of vision correction that closely models the eye’s natural dynamic behaviour, enabling better vision quality and control.

Alvarez Lens Technology
Each lens comprises two wave-shaped polycarbonate plates that are able to glide across one another. The power of each lens can be varied by moving the plates relative to one another, as shown in the diagram.
As indicated above, Sundials use two independent dials to move two different plates, which allow them to address all sorts of different sight conditions. Seeing truly is believing, as they corrected nearsightedness quite easily with a few turns. However, the narrow area of sight correction due to the smaller oval corrective area (see pictures above and below) doesn’t exactly lend itself to activities that require a great deal of hand eye coordination. In a sense, they create a tunnel vision effect for seeing things far away. However, those players that are looking for a quick remedy for reading a scorecard may find them quite useful.
The glasses are quite lightweight, which does make them easy to stow away for use in a pinch, but at the same time makes them appear that they will require care to avoid any damage. Luckily, they come in their own plastic carrying case that is easy to tuck into a golf bag.
While Sundials are certainly convenient, they do lack a bit in the style department, especially when considering the peculiar looking adjustable lens plates. However, Adlens advertises them more for situations where they are needed in hurry rather than extended wear. Regardless, they are lightweight and reasonably comfortable, even with large head sizes.
Adlens Sundials retail for $69 and more information can be found at www.adlens.com.
Everything is going adjustable!
Interesting concept, and love that they managed to do this while keeping the glasses lightweight.
Solid price point for the offering as well.
Great review Ryan
Great review Ryan, these are certainly interesting. As a wearer of eyeglasses I am somewhat interested but I need something for extended wear, not short term in a hurry.
I agree that the style does need a bump, when I checked these out on the website I was immediately reminded of the 3D glasses handed out at movies.
Interesting item, thanks for the right up Hawk
Just when you think you’ve seen everything… This is certainly an interesting idea, but I just don’t see the need for adjustable eyewear. Unless you plan on sharing sunglasses with your playing partner, I wouldn’t think your magnification needs would change in a round, and a pair of $2 readers from Wal-mart would work. Thanks for the spotlight though.
Interesting concept, but these look too goofy to wear. I have a pair of prescription sunglasses for when I need them.
This is an ingenious idea and relatively simple. I actually like it and was excited about it until we got to the tunnel vision thing. I think that a huge improvement on the concept would be to resolve that and they may have a winner. I may still go check out their site to see if they have regular lenses for this instead of the sunglass lens. As I’ve gotten older, I find myself needing readers as many of us do, but the focal point doesn’t always stay the same when I’m at my desk, vs reading material on a display or handed out in a conference room, vs when I go out with my family. It’s a neat concept anyway.
And I was very impressed with the pricepoint. I was expecting to see $300+.
Thanks for bringing this to the forefront.
Hmmmmm….I am just not sure what to make of these. They do lack a lot in the style arena, but I guess they would do in an emergency.
Interesting product. I think for the person that can truly benefit from this, it appears to be a decent product at a great price.
Not the most stylish out there but with what they are seeking to resolve, it’s not bad by any means.
The tunnel vision thing definitely causes apprehension…..seems like this needs to be a bit better developed to be a product that’s overall beneficial to golfers in all aspects.
Interesting…..adjust the glasses to focus in on where you are about to hit the golf ball and then adjust the glasses so you can see the ball your about to hit?
