Project X TITAN Black: Built for Speed, Stability, and Control

It’s no secret that during release season, the focus is often on equipment, with drivers usually stealing the spotlight. As discussions about new drivers and metalwoods unfold, attention eventually shifts to shafts, which is where we find ourselves today with the launch of a new line from Project X known as TITAN Black.

At THP, we are very familiar with Project X shafts, particularly the black-label series. When Project X first introduced the incredibly popular HZRDUS line, it was initially available in the Black variant, followed by the HZRDUS Yellow and HZRDUS Red models. Similar to the original HZRDUS Black, the new TITAN Black is designed for golfers who generate high swing speeds and need a low-launch, low-spin combination. In addition to its low-launch and low-spin characteristics, TITAN Black also provides essential stability throughout the swing.

“TITAN Black is a completely new profile that we have been developing with professional golfers during the 2025 season,” said Don Brown, Vice President of Innovation and Marketing at True Temper Sports. “Several Tour players put the TITAN prototype into play during fall series events, validating the performance and stability we were targeting at the highest level.”

Advanced EI Profile Delivers Stability and Feel

When golfers get ready to grip and rip a driver with TITAN Black, they can expect a stout yet smooth experience, thanks to a newly advanced EI curve. This EI curve, as shown in the graphic, provides a more elastic feel in the handle, enhancing shaft loading during the transition. As we move toward the mid and tip sections, the shaft becomes progressively firmer, delivering added stability and a smoother overall feel.

Synex Technology Improves Energy Transfer

Synex Pattern

Project X incorporates Synex Technology, which features a multi-axial carbon fiber construction designed to strengthen and reinforce the shaft’s outer layer. This technology enhances hoop stiffness, particularly in the handle and midsection, improving energy transfer to the ball.

Hoop stiffness is a term used by shaft manufacturers to describe the shaft’s ability to resist ovalizing during the swing, which can result in energy loss. A stiffer hoop reduces energy leaks and provides greater rigidity. With TITAN Black, the increased hoop stiffness allows golfers with faster swing speeds to swing aggressively without worrying about energy loss or increased shot dispersion.

“From an engineering standpoint, TITAN Black allowed us to push the EI profile in a way that blends a responsive handle with progressively firmer mid and tip sections,” said Jonah Zaleznick, Director of Composites Engineering at True Temper Sports. “Synex Technology plays a critical role by reinforcing the shaft’s structure to improve energy transfer and stability, giving players a shaft that is easier to load while maintaining a stable, controlled feel.”

During an interview with THP several years ago, Don Brown mentioned that the golf industry operates on a “what have you done for me lately” basis. Project X has certainly been a brand that has seen several shaft lines gain popularity soon after launch, including HZRDUS, EvenFlow, and Denali, which helps keep the brand fresh in golfers’ minds. If history does indeed repeat itself, expect to see some significant developments from the TITAN line in the future.
