Public Rec Apparel Review

Public Rec, based out of Chicago, brings a different feel to golf apparel – something you might just identify with. The company, started in apartment, was built from the ground up with one foundational goal. Comfort above all. Public Rec wasn’t always a golf apparel brand, and even today the company likely considers golf apparel just a small part of what they do. However, with the 2025 Medinah Series they are making a concerted push towards attracting golfers with what they’ve always done well; making unpretentious, imminently comfortable apparel that can be worn anywhere.

We sampled three items from Public Rec’s Medinah Series, all of which created an entire outfit for the golf course.

Public Rec Apparel

Public Rec Apparel – Dealmaker 5 Pocket Pant

Above all, Public Rec identifies as a “pants” company. Their roots like in founder Zach Goldstein’s desire to create a pair of pants as comfortable as his Jordan sweats that could be worn anywhere. Out of that vision came the Gamechanger – a fitted pair of sweats that can masquerade as casual pants.

Sweats, as comfortable as they may be, aren’t really golf apparel at this point in time. To meet the needs of the golfer, Public Rec offers the Dealmaker 5 Pocket Pant. The company describes the Dealmaker by saying:

“The Dealmaker 5-Pocket Pant is your go-to for all-day comfort without sacrificing style. These slacks keep you looking sharp while feeling effortlessly at ease. Light, stretchy, and always in control.”

Public Rec pants

Constructed of a smooth and lightweight 100% polyester material, the Dealmaker certainly passed the “feel” test when we first got them in hand. We found the Dealmaker (in the Fog color option) to be smooth, airy, and wonderfully lightweight. The material looks dressy enough to be worn in any number of situations but manages to feel casual at the same time. Public Rec calls the material Work Hard Play Hard Fabric and notes that it’s water and wind resistant.

We found the Dealmaker Pant a pleasure to wear on the golf course in temps ranging from the 50’s into the low 70’s. The stretch is slight, but just enough to ensure the ability to move athletically as needed.

In terms of sizing, we felt that the Dealmaker ran quite large. In contrast to a number of other companies, the 34×32 size we tried left visible space between the waistband and our actual waist. The oversized theme seemed to creep into the rest of the piece, with the seat and thighs having more room than we desired, resulting in a somewhat unkept look. If baggy is your style, this will likely work well, but our experience seems to indicate sizing down may be the best option.

The Dealmaker pant retails for $128 and is available in 12 colors in a large variety of sizes.

Public Rec Apparel – All Fore It Polo

The All Fore It Polo (in Navy) proved to be a simple addition to our wardrobe that we found ourselves reaching for often. Public Rec also offers the All Fore It in prints, a simple navy polo should be a staple in everybody’s closet.

Public Rec Apparel

Constructed of 94% polyester and 6% spandex, the All Fore It Polo presents a novel feel in hand due to the unique pique weave employed by Public Rec. It’s not overly soft, but it’s comfortable, very breathable, and holds its shape very well. It’s hard to describe in writing, but in comparison to the standard generic performance fabric we are all familiar with, the pique material is slightly thicker and has an airy nature.

The All Fore It Polo features a unique design aspect in the way Raglan Sleeves. This method of attaching sleeves utilizes a diagonal seam from the armpit to the collar, which easily visualized in the White Fog color option. The primary benefit of this design is added arm mobility, which is quite helpful for golf. We enjoyed the Raglan sleeve design, but were thankful it wasn’t something we could easily see in the Navy color option.

The All Fore It is described by Public Rec as having a “modern, athletic fit” that is “tailored without being restrictive”. We feel that the company describes the fit almost perfectly. The cut squares off the shoulders and chest, and a slight a taper through the midsection provides a flattering, slimming appearance. This is a polo we gladly wore on the golf course and the office. We suggest ordering your normal size.

The All Fore It Polo retails for $88 and is available in five colors, ranging from solids to patterns.

Public Rec Apparel – Made to Move Belt

Every golf outfit needs a great belt to tie it all together, and we were excited to see the Made to Move Belt in the box from Public Rec. It’s a stretch woven belt, which tend to be stylish, comfortable, and versatile. We sampled the Made to Move in Silver Navy, an accent color that can work with a variety of different tops and bottoms. As you can see in pictures, it worked perfectly with the full ensemble we reviewed. It was comfortable to cinch tightly and did a great job of keeping the slightly oversized Dealmaker Pant in place.

Belt with golf balls

While we enjoyed the look of the Made to Move, there were a few aspects about it that made it difficult to love. The leather tip at the end of the belt didn’t fit well into the leather loop. This made it somewhat cumbersome to put the belt on and overly difficult to take the belt off. In addition, the leather tip didn’t move through the belt loops on the Dealmaker easily. While we loved the belt from a visual standpoint, it unfortunately became somewhat of a bother to wear for a full day.

The Made to Move Belt retails for $58 and is available in three colors and five different sizes.
