Public Rec, based out of Chicago, brings a different feel to golf apparel – something you might just identify with. The company, started in apartment, was built from the ground up with one foundational goal. Comfort above all. Public Rec wasn’t always a golf apparel brand, and even today the company likely considers golf apparel just a small part of what they do. However, with the 2025 Medinah Series they are making a concerted push towards attracting golfers with what they’ve always done well; making unpretentious, imminently comfortable apparel that can be worn anywhere.
We sampled three items from Public Rec’s Medinah Series, all of which created an entire outfit for the golf course.

Public Rec Apparel – Dealmaker 5 Pocket Pant
Above all, Public Rec identifies as a “pants” company. Their roots like in founder Zach Goldstein’s desire to create a pair of pants as comfortable as his Jordan sweats that could be worn anywhere. Out of that vision came the Gamechanger – a fitted pair of sweats that can masquerade as casual pants.
Sweats, as comfortable as they may be, aren’t really golf apparel at this point in time. To meet the needs of the golfer, Public Rec offers the Dealmaker 5 Pocket Pant. The company describes the Dealmaker by saying:
“The Dealmaker 5-Pocket Pant is your go-to for all-day comfort without sacrificing style. These slacks keep you looking sharp while feeling effortlessly at ease. Light, stretchy, and always in control.”

Constructed of a smooth and lightweight 100% polyester material, the Dealmaker certainly passed the “feel” test when we first got them in hand. We found the Dealmaker (in the Fog color option) to be smooth, airy, and wonderfully lightweight. The material looks dressy enough to be worn in any number of situations but manages to feel casual at the same time. Public Rec calls the material Work Hard Play Hard Fabric and notes that it’s water and wind resistant.
We found the Dealmaker Pant a pleasure to wear on the golf course in temps ranging from the 50’s into the low 70’s. The stretch is slight, but just enough to ensure the ability to move athletically as needed.

In terms of sizing, we felt that the Dealmaker ran quite large. In contrast to a number of other companies, the 34×32 size we tried left visible space between the waistband and our actual waist. The oversized theme seemed to creep into the rest of the piece, with the seat and thighs having more room than we desired, resulting in a somewhat unkept look. If baggy is your style, this will likely work well, but our experience seems to indicate sizing down may be the best option.
The Dealmaker pant retails for $128 and is available in 12 colors in a large variety of sizes.
Public Rec Apparel – All Fore It Polo
The All Fore It Polo (in Navy) proved to be a simple addition to our wardrobe that we found ourselves reaching for often. Public Rec also offers the All Fore It in prints, a simple navy polo should be a staple in everybody’s closet.

Constructed of 94% polyester and 6% spandex, the All Fore It Polo presents a novel feel in hand due to the unique pique weave employed by Public Rec. It’s not overly soft, but it’s comfortable, very breathable, and holds its shape very well. It’s hard to describe in writing, but in comparison to the standard generic performance fabric we are all familiar with, the pique material is slightly thicker and has an airy nature.
The All Fore It Polo features a unique design aspect in the way Raglan Sleeves. This method of attaching sleeves utilizes a diagonal seam from the armpit to the collar, which easily visualized in the White Fog color option. The primary benefit of this design is added arm mobility, which is quite helpful for golf. We enjoyed the Raglan sleeve design, but were thankful it wasn’t something we could easily see in the Navy color option.
The All Fore It is described by Public Rec as having a “modern, athletic fit” that is “tailored without being restrictive”. We feel that the company describes the fit almost perfectly. The cut squares off the shoulders and chest, and a slight a taper through the midsection provides a flattering, slimming appearance. This is a polo we gladly wore on the golf course and the office. We suggest ordering your normal size.

The All Fore It Polo retails for $88 and is available in five colors, ranging from solids to patterns.
Public Rec Apparel – Made to Move Belt
Every golf outfit needs a great belt to tie it all together, and we were excited to see the Made to Move Belt in the box from Public Rec. It’s a stretch woven belt, which tend to be stylish, comfortable, and versatile. We sampled the Made to Move in Silver Navy, an accent color that can work with a variety of different tops and bottoms. As you can see in pictures, it worked perfectly with the full ensemble we reviewed. It was comfortable to cinch tightly and did a great job of keeping the slightly oversized Dealmaker Pant in place.

While we enjoyed the look of the Made to Move, there were a few aspects about it that made it difficult to love. The leather tip at the end of the belt didn’t fit well into the leather loop. This made it somewhat cumbersome to put the belt on and overly difficult to take the belt off. In addition, the leather tip didn’t move through the belt loops on the Dealmaker easily. While we loved the belt from a visual standpoint, it unfortunately became somewhat of a bother to wear for a full day.
The Made to Move Belt retails for $58 and is available in three colors and five different sizes.
The Details
More information on the entire line of Public Rec apparel can be found on the company’s website, publicrec.com.
More apparel, interesting. Seems odd that the pants fit so different than the shirts (or maybe that’s just the details as stated in the article. I am reaching info overload on all the options out there – and the price points – well they almost seem to all be shooting for similar numbers – regardless of brand, how made, or other variables. My closet has a number of different brands of slacks – all fit different some very very different, and each has a price point that one might think corresponds to a fit – but honestly doesn’t.
Anyway @Hawk another great and informative piece – thanks! For a minute I saw and read Public Rec but my brain thought ‘Municipal" So many choices/brands.
Great writeup @Hawk ! Never heard of this brand before today. Don’t know that I’d be “giving it a try” for the pricing, especially with the comment about being oversized in the pants. But it’s great with all the options out there for golfers these days. I do like golf pants that serve as both golf and possible work/office pants.
I’ve got a pair of the Dealmaker pants and your review is spot on. They’re soft, stretchy, and look good for golf and my semi-casual work setting.
They’re not thin, so I wore them through the winter and loved it, and then again for cool spring golf. They wouldn’t be something I’d grab for a dress up round in mid summer though.
They are definitely a relaxed fit, so size it true or down. And after wearing and washing, they soften up even more. So comfortable.

Definitely a great feeling pair of pants. I’d love the opportunity to try a couple sizes and see what works best for me. It’s not always easy sizing perfectly when it comes to mailing things for review. I just try to use my daily wardrobe as a baseline, which gives me a good frame of reference for sizing.
The shirt, while not the most luxurious thing in the world, really does look great. I’m not wild about the prints they have available, but love the fit.
The more relaxed roomy description is in my wheelhouse. Pricing is on par with other brands and not a fan of that.
I love public rec. been wearing their everyday pants for years now
I have about 5 pairs of the Dealmaker pants as well as a pair of the Gameday joggers. I actually like Public Rec apparel better than the comparable Lululemon that is in my closet. I started wearing the Gameday joggers playing golf last fall and this spring when the weather was cooler and they were the most comfortable pant that I had ever worn playing golf.
On thing similar to Lululemon, the pants are indestructible and after 2-3 years of wearing they look and feel like the day I bought them. When I am wearing pants, my go to is always a pair of the Public Rec.

Love that info.
I like the looks of the pants and the shirts, the sizing on the pants is a bit of an issue though. I think I get why they might go a slight bit larger so you have a little more comfort, but I am not a fan of baggy fit.
Another brand I would need to see in person. Sounds like I’d need to try them on, at least the pants.
The Chino+ pants look really good, and would be my preference over the 5 pocket.
For those concerned about sizing, it looks like the return/exchange policy and procedure has you covered:
Don’t love something? Return it. We offer free returns on all domestic orders with the exception of the list below. We only ask that you return the item unwashed, unworn, and within 45 days of purchase. When we say "unworn," a try-on is just fine—a CrossFit class, not so much.
*****
Please be aware that returns in the "started" status that have yet to be dropped off at a Happy Returns Bar or shipped within 30 days will automatically expire.
And the website FAQ offers some sizing guidance:
Each product page has a "Sizing & Fit" section that will describe the fit and tell you whether to size up/down if you’re in between sizes.
As a general rule, if you’re in between waist sizes:
Size down for the Gamechanger Rec Pant and Gamechanger Jogger.
Size up for the Dealmaker Collection.
If you’re still unsure, send us a message and we can help.

I appreciate you posting this.
I think it’s important people know I’m not criticizing a brand for its sizing. It’s just very useful information that I feel needs to be shared so you all can make the best choices when you’re online shopping.
@Hawk looking back now over what I posted, it seems you found the Dealmaker pants to run large, and the PublicRec site suggests sizing up. Was your experience different?
I have thought about picking up a pair and I may need to do that for the fall. I have a few pairs of Stitch pants which I love but they are quite think so when it get cold they aren’t quite warm enough. I could use something a bit thicker.

My experience was the opposite. For me, a 34 will fit comfortably against my body, but require a belt to avoid sagging. With these I was able to fit a couple stacked fingers between my waist and the pant’s waistline.
Nice article @Hawk I’m on the lookout for some new pants. I’ve been noticing that there are a lot of pants in that 100-140 mark for different casual wear companies.
Man, the pants look comfy for sure.
Really enjoyed learning about a brand I had no clue of prior, Hawk.

I was surprised I hadn’t heard of them too.
Learning about all kinds of new apparel this year. They definitely seem a bit different, which is a good thing with so many similar types of brands out there. I’ll have to check them out sometime.
I have looked at some pub rec stuff a few times. But never pulled the trigger.
The fact that they make a belt that doesn’t function well with their own pants puzzles me just a little.
Pants do sound nice if ordered in proper size.

I liked the clothing quite a bit.
The belt was a bit of a disappointment though.
I am a big fan of their pants. They are less “shiny” than LuLuLemon ABCs so you can definitely wear them to the office.
I have a pair of the Dealmaker 5-pocket and Dealmaker Chino+ and wear them to work or golf. Great pants!
Was gifted a couple of these pieces a while back and ordered a couple more, the price point is a bit high, but I’m liking what I’m seeing so far.
I thought the guy pictured with the polo was Kirk Cousins at first. I’ve seen their ads before but never tried their stuff. It’s nice having plenty of options out there.

You did see them in person. I was wearing Public Rec at Ballyhack for the Bag Boy Championship..
Ive worn them for awhile now and really appreciate not just the comfort but the quality craftsmanship. They’ve been through a lot of washes but never shrank and they look as good as the day I got them.
the downside is that they are pricey, but you can catch sales like over Memorial Day where they had like $50 off, which makes them a lot more affordable to buy.
Interesting, I had never heard about that brand
The fabric looks really nice, my kinda style. I love the 5 pocket pants, I keep my airpods in the little pocket.
Gonna have to give these a try.
I have a shirt that has those raglan type sleeves. It only works with certain color combos. The one posted in the review (white and gray) didn’t seem that bad but it would be a concern.
Pants sound like they feel fantastic and they look incredible in the pictures. Love that they actually offer different inseam sizes too instead of everything being 32″
The shorts are not to be slept on, very comfy even in the high humidity and heat in Texas. Again, I recommend waiting for a sale but they are worth it

Have a feeling I’d love the shorts. I’d buy the pants without hesitation, so will keep an eye out for sales.
