Today, Puma Golf is announcing the release of their newest pair of golf shoes, Phantomcat Nitro. We’ve seen a great deal of love for the Alphacats that preceded this new offering, and it appears that Puma has spent considerable energy into delivering another shoe with both high-end comfort and stability.

The Phantomcat Nitro isn’t just a tweak on the Alphacats, but instead offers a number of new technologies, both inside and out, to ensure the performance matches Puma’s well-known ability to deliver attractive styles.
In the heel section, Nitrogen Infused Foam reduces weight, provides ample cushioning, and has a rebound effect to make walking a comfortable experience. In a quest to make the Phantomcat Nitro’s even more comfortable, Puma has designed a new anatomically shaped last with a generous toe box. If you are wondering what a last is, so were we, so we did some research and learned a last is a footprint, or form, referring to the shape of the shoe. They believe that this will give an even wider group of consumers the ability to find a comfortable fit. The company notes that this redesigned shape has been in the works for years. It seems impossible that they could make an even more comfortable golf shoe, but their track record speaks for itself.

The most visible new feature on the Phantomcat Ntiro’s will surely be Flexspike. This is a completely new and unique approach to traction that we can’t wait to try. These cleats are integrated into the shoe and provide a broad area of surface contact with the ground, which should offer top-rate traction and stability in the golf swing. Flexspike is meant to work with a variety of different forces from opposing directions and is made to balance out weight distribution more evenly.
“The Phantomcat NITRO™ is our most advanced shoe to date,” said Andrew Lawson, Senior PLM Footwear, Puma Golf. “NITRO™ foam and FLEXSPIKE technology gives the golfer a combination of traction and comfort like never before. The feedback we’ve received from our Tour Athletes has been fantastic and I can’t wait for golfers to try this shoe.”
Rounding out the feature set are a full grain leather upper with a 1 year waterproof guarantee, secondary spikes made of a TPU material, and a molded heel to provide additional stability.

Great writeup @Hawk ! I saw these in person at the PGA Superstore this last Thursday when I was in there waiting on my irons to be checked/adjusted. These look really good!
Nice write-up @Hawk. Will definitely give these a look, I’m not sure how they will make them more comfortable than the alphacats, but if they did then I need to pick these up.
These will definitely get a look.
Great sneak peak and write up on these @hawk The new features are interesting and I would have to say the Flexspike is something we have seen before. As for the colorway I would have to stick with the all white as I don’t like how the colors on the back of the shoe mesh.
I’m sure these are comfortable as any other Puma golf shoe I’ve had. I just don’t really dig the looks of them.
Love the look, will try these on next time at GG or PGASS
Really like the look and can’t wait to hear about comfort and the new spikes!
Very nice @Hawk . I love the styling and the look of what they’ve done the “spikes”/tread.
I can even swallow the price, but I really hope they make them with the disc closure, otherwise I’m out.
I do like simple blend of athletic and dress these seem to pull off.
Awesome write up @Hawk I have looked puma shoes since I started golfing and I bet these will be no exception.
I like those, but the wife might hurt me if I bring another pair of shoes home

Woohoo!! It’s finally time!
I’ve been putting these through their paces and I’m a big fan!
Traction – The new Flexspike is really interesting. Sound is a little louder than I would have guessed on sidewalks and parking lots, grips like crazy on swings, and haven’t noticed a single mark on a green so far. Not that I’m known for doing that, but still. And the grip on swings was so good in the muck when I got them that it actually spooked me and me wonky lead knee a bit.
Comfortable – No heel issues I saw with some of their shoes last year. That was kind of a non-starter for me with them. Light. They’ve been in my shoe bag for a while and it’s weird but I actually notice that compared to the pair that’s normally in there when I carry them
Waterproof – Waterproof upper, but not coated so I imagine will wear like normal white leather over longer time period. That was my biggest disappoint if I’m being honest. Part of why my original Alphas are still going strong is because of that coating. I can’t imagine these will last as many rounds, and I am known for scratching through the other shoe’s leather with my opposing sole. I always seen to accidentally rub them across each other. Hasn’t happened yet with these, but feels a little inevitable.
I don’t run around the clubhouse and lots as much as some so it’ll take some serious time to figure out how the spikes wear. Wife spotted these on Amazon late last year and they’ve had a bunch of rounds, but not enough to judge there. They’re a pretty hard material though.
My Alphas are getting a little beat up and I’m not sure I’ve ever had a pair of shoes I liked better. Definitely will be excited to get these on my feet sometime in the future.
I’m a fan of the leather upper so I’m glad they have these out there. Guess my favorite color option is the red navy and white. Sole pattern is definitely interesting looking.
These look clean to me. Obviously I’m a Puma shoe homer so these likely will be had in either the white/blue or white/gray
Very clean. Likely the next one to add to my streak of Puma shoes.

Feel like we need a Volition pair, very heavy on the Red. Possibly a Blue Sole.
Also wish they had gone the Puma on the side vs the wave.

Prolly will be. ? Lol
Oh my!
Great write up and insight @Hawk . I just bought two pair of golf shoes but if I was in the market, these would be at the top of my list. I like the look and design along with the spike pattern
they look nice. I would try them on, never had a pair of puma shoes, outside of sneakers back in the day.
Their styling on the last few models just hasn’t done it for me. Almost too plain maybe? Hard for me to say why though.
LOVE Puma shoes generally, but white shoes are too hard to keep white!
I like solid, clean looks and these deliver.
With the new spikes being integrated into the soles, does that mean they are not replaceable?
They look really nice. I love the bottoms that spike pattern is very intriguing.
I’m going to hang back and hold off a bit on these I want to wait for more feedback on how waterproof they are over time and how the heel wear is for some people. The vast majority of my golf is played in the morning summer dew and I walk a lot of my rounds so durability and remaining waterproof are honestly my two most important characteristics in a golf shoe.
I would buy these but I can’t go for any of these color ways
That’s a solid looking shoe
Interesting sole design.
And looks like another line of Pumas that don’t come in wide?
These look great, exactly what I like in a shoe style. Sole looks crazy.
Those look insanely comfortable. The sole is weirding me out a bit, but I’d try them on and see how they fit and feel.
That spike pattern intrigues me for sure, super curious what kind of traction it would be on a mixture of conditions.

How is the support?
Interesting looking shoe.
Saw these a few weeks ago. The white/silver may be purchased at some point. They looked really good.
Spike pattern looks fantastic! I wish I liked the design of them overall though. Haven’t been a huge fan since they moved to AlphaCat. I’m more of an Ignite guy and have two pairs of those still doing fantastic. But the spike pattern, especially the ones with the green bottoms are soooo intriguing

I wouldn’t say I’m someone who keeps that as a point of focus. At least with arch. I live in the middle zone on that. Too much bothers me. And I haven’t noticed either way (which is what I want) so my guess for the masses would be in that middle ground too. Good, and my feet don’t feel tired after.
Nice looking shoe and if it’s a new last, there’s a chance I find these fit me. I like Puma shoes but so far they don’t exactly fit me well enough.
Nice write up. I like these!
I saw these last week in the store and they look really good. Will be getting a pair at some point to try them out.
I like the sound of a leather upper. Time will tell I guess
I’m intrigued to try these. I’m always torn between spiked or spikeless shoes and this might be a happy medium
I think I like these.
Would love this in a gray/fog color ?
Overall style and design is great! And that Flexspike is no doubt intriguing.

So excited not to have to blur these out in course photos anymore. Kept me from wearing them as much.
