Today, Puma Golf is announcing the release of their newest pair of golf shoes, Phantomcat Nitro. We’ve seen a great deal of love for the Alphacats that preceded this new offering, and it appears that Puma has spent considerable energy into delivering another shoe with both high-end comfort and stability.

The Phantomcat Nitro isn’t just a tweak on the Alphacats, but instead offers a number of new technologies, both inside and out, to ensure the performance matches Puma’s well-known ability to deliver attractive styles.
In the heel section, Nitrogen Infused Foam reduces weight, provides ample cushioning, and has a rebound effect to make walking a comfortable experience. In a quest to make the Phantomcat Nitro’s even more comfortable, Puma has designed a new anatomically shaped last with a generous toe box. If you are wondering what a last is, so were we, so we did some research and learned a last is a footprint, or form, referring to the shape of the shoe. They believe that this will give an even wider group of consumers the ability to find a comfortable fit. The company notes that this redesigned shape has been in the works for years. It seems impossible that they could make an even more comfortable golf shoe, but their track record speaks for itself.

The most visible new feature on the Phantomcat Ntiro’s will surely be Flexspike. This is a completely new and unique approach to traction that we can’t wait to try. These cleats are integrated into the shoe and provide a broad area of surface contact with the ground, which should offer top-rate traction and stability in the golf swing. Flexspike is meant to work with a variety of different forces from opposing directions and is made to balance out weight distribution more evenly.
“The Phantomcat NITRO™ is our most advanced shoe to date,” said Andrew Lawson, Senior PLM Footwear, Puma Golf. “NITRO™ foam and FLEXSPIKE technology gives the golfer a combination of traction and comfort like never before. The feedback we’ve received from our Tour Athletes has been fantastic and I can’t wait for golfers to try this shoe.”
Rounding out the feature set are a full grain leather upper with a 1 year waterproof guarantee, secondary spikes made of a TPU material, and a molded heel to provide additional stability.

Love Puma. They need to work on consistency of sizing. I’m all over the place when looking at some of their models the last few years.
Is no one interested in the disc version? I just saw these on my Instagram feed. yes these to me are cool.

Wow, those are ugly. Puma makes really nice disc shoes – I own disc alphacats.

I saw them and really liked them. Not in the market at the moment though.
Is Puma typically slow on the shipping side? I ordered from them on Sunday and my order is showing as “unfulfilled.” I realize it’s just now Tuesday, but Dick’s, Nike, Amazon, etc. have spoiled me to expecting orders to go out within 24 hours. I want these little bastards in time for this weekend’s play. :ROFLMAO:
Snagged these for 50 off Amazon and these are very comfortable and also have great grip

50 dolla!?! Damn.
I’ve been meaning to do an update on mine since I think I was the first to put them in okay and they’ve seen a lot of work now. For $50 it wouldn’t hardly matter though.
Saw these for the first time in person. The spike sections are a little more aggressive and firm than what I thought they would be. I would wear these but still hoping for a predominately gray colorway.
They have that. Depending on your definition of ‘predominantly’.

Depends on size but yes the same ones in 13 are 51 dollars but most other sizes are sold out. I have an 11 but they are out of them now.
Puma has these for $30 off for the weekend
I hate to be the one to point this out, but those appear to be knock-offs.Looks to just be alpha cats vs phantom cats. My mistake

Logo and colorways. If you look at the website those aren’t what they are…unless they are an old model or something.
Specifically the logo, you can see the logo on the ones in the article and the website are a solid grey and a bit bigger.

I snagged these yesterday and they were just delivered by Amazon within the hour. Looking forward to trying them on. Highly recommended by @Rambler so for that price I had to.
These have become my favorite golf shoes. I walked 18 today on a very hilly course and they felt fantastic. They are stable with good traction. Good job, Puma!

They’re doing fine. Not sure of the actual rounds in on them. Wore them a lot to start, but don’t as often now compared to some just because I’m always in blues and grays.
Some creasing wear in the leather, heels are good,
couple bluish discoloration spots in the soles from some kind of contact with something. Honestly could be transfer from a cart rub or even a wet show bag. No big deal and can’t hardly see it.
Laces are pretty good, probably due for a pull and scrub pretty soon. I’ve made an effort to clean my shoes better this year and will get the little bit of dirt off these tonight. Have no concerns they’ll last most of the year.
They’ve remained really comfortable. Little roomier than previous ones for sure. And the traction is great. They’re actually kind of my go-tos for junky conditions because I don’t like traditional spikes.
Overall really good. I do wish they were covered in TPU like the alphas a couple gens ago, but they’ve been a solid shoe.
Sorry the first pic from the previous post got deleted somehow.
New shoes have arrived! First round tomorrow

First round in the Phantom Cat Nitros and I like them. No break in was required they were comfortable all day long. Tons of traction which is awesome.
@OldandStiff these or the galavan2r?

What is “TPU?”
I wore a different pair of shoes for each of my three rounds through the 4th of July holiday. I have to say that the Phantomcats were my overall favorites. They seem to fit my feet so well and are super comfortable throughout the round, yet they are stable. I really enjoy them.
Here’s a question out of curiosity. How do the Nitro and Ignite foam compare?
I realized the Pumas I have both have the Ignite foam. I would say the foam itself is fairly hard, but the design inside the shoe helps make it comfortable.

I didn’t even realize that there is a different foam, until I read your post and looked it up. That is an interesting question.

Thermoplastic urethane. Used in a lot of things. Think of it here like the mesh upper saturated with the cover material of a golf ball.

You like that better than leather?
I just picked these up because I’ve liked puma shoes in the past and these fit well in the store. Reading about the outstanding traction has me more excited to get these out on the course

The simple answer is yes. I have leather shoes that I like, but they don’t last anywhere near as long and I don’t think they’re worth it in comparison.
I guess Puma shoes just work well for me. These are so comfortable and the grip is excellent. I should just stick with Puma from here on out.

I have had these same thoughts.
Picked up a pair of nitros. Wore them for a quick trip to range today. Out of the box great comfort no break in needed. Have worn alphacats for a few years now. Phantomcats will be the new go to.
Wore the Phantomcats for my round today. Just love them.

They are really good. I still have a new pair of Alphacats in the closet that I got a good deal on. Thinking of selling them and buying a 2nd pair of Phantomcats.
Puma has Phantomcat Nitros on sale for 119.00. Disc version on sale also. Is this a late season sell off or is something new coming. I may need to stock up.

I saw that, too, and had mixed feelings that I played full retail for two pairs. I may start purchasing shoes later in the cycle.

I got a pair on prime for 120. Thinking I need the red white and blue pair also.
I’ve heard so many endorsements like this I always give them a look, but just am not into them aesthetically. Dumb reason not to give them a shot I know, but I am how I am I guess. ?

Your preference for TPU just goes to show that it can sometimes be different strokes for different folks. I have paid attention to the difference in the two upper materials and I much prefer leather, particularly in this hotter weather. I just feels like my feet can breathe a little more.
I think I will be playing these shoes for the rest of the year. I am glad that I have two pair. Everything about them works well and my feet feel great after walking 18 holes in them.
I love a shoe that is stable, but allows your feet to feel great at the end of a round. That is what I experience with these shoes. Pumas just seem to fit my feet well.
Anyone have the AP version? Not in stock at my local store, so can’t see them in person.

Late to the party I finally picked up a pair of these shoes. First impressions are they are comfortable.
Was dry today so not the best test but feels like plenty of traction. I typically play spikeless, these don’t seem that different when not on grass. Almost like in between
Picked up a pair of these to wear at GrayBull this week, and oh man was i surprised. I typically struggle with traction, specifically my left foot because i cannot feel it, it sometimes slips out. These things were unbelievably comfortable and very supportive of traction, and very importantly to me, i did not experience any heel slip.

The comfort and traction they provide is outstanding. They have become my go to shoe.
