Many names come to mind when one thinks of golf apparel such as Nike, Adidas and Ashworth. There is a new powerhouse on the block, you may have heard of them before, it’s a little company called PUMA. I have always loved PUMA’s sneakers and running shoes and I thought their fitness clothing was pretty nice, but I never thought about them for my golfwear…until now. About six months ago I went into my local Edwin Watts and stumbled upon a rack that opened my eyes to the great European style of PUMA.

It wasn’t until 2006 that PUMA entered into phase four of their business plan which included their golf apparel line. Well three years later and light years ahead in clothing technology, I bring to you PUMA’s Spring/Summer collection of 2009. “For Spring Summer 2009, PUMA® Golf dials up the sophistication with pieces that promise both on-course performance and off-course style. The highlight of the collection is the elimination of all non-essential components from the silhouettes, bringing excitement and innovation to the wearer and to the game.

The collection’s performance fabrics include some combination of anti-bacterial, anti-pollen, static-proof, tear-proof and chlorine-resistant elements; these are just a few of the features that give the collection its credibility among serious golfers. Offering comfort and protection on a hot summer day, the line also includes UV protection, moisture-wicking properties and stretch. Sleek, elegant and lightweight materials are utilized not only for style, but also to enhance the wearer”.

The Spring/Summer line has brilliant bold colors and eccentric designs that gives PUMA their unique European look. For the ladies they are featuring a skort with a flower pattern version of their signature 18-hole logo. I was lucky enough to preview one in a bright yellow color, it was like a burst of sunshine. Sticking with the seamless theme of 2009 this skort has an invisible zip opening and a self fabric belt. To match the skort try pairing it up with new Golf Invisibonding Polo, for this particular outfit I chose white. The best part about this polo is the collar because it can be worn like a normal polo collar or like a mock turtleneck. The lightweight fabric of both these garments allows for a smooth and fluid swing. The perfect compliment to this outfit is PUMA’a new water resistant Loop Wn golf shoes.

The men’s Spring/Summer line is just as colorful and fun as the women’s. My favorite item I saw was their Golf Checked Bermuda Shorts. The vibrant orange colored checkered print just screams summer to me. For a more subdued, yet still fashionable, look you could always go with the Golf Tech Pants. These pants have a Teflon coating on the lower back legs to allow for easy movement on the course. Either bottoms would go great with a polo, a Golf Graphic Invisibonding Polo to be exact. Just like the ladies version, this seamless polo will help you swing the golf club with ease, not to mention looking great while doing it. The striped design and 18-hole logo adds that extra flare to take a well crafted shirt and bring it to the next level. Just like the women’s outfit, we can’t complete this ensemble without a great pair of shoes. With clean lines and great metallic shine the Swing Crown GTX is the perfect shoe for the job.

Being a female I love accessories and PUMA has everyone covered there too. If you shower and change at your club you will need a bag to carry all your belongings, I recommend trying the Golf Weekender. This is a unisex traveling case that is made for a golfer, with several different sized compartments for all your storage needs, it even has a shoe compartment!

The Spring/Summer 09 line by PUMA is in a league of its own. They make a stellar product, with high quality fabrics, unique designs, and brilliant colors. I am normally more of a supporter of the small, lesser known companies, but with a collection like this PUMA has my vote. THP definitely looks forward to the launch of this line and cannot wait to see them in stores. You can always read more about PUMA Golf at Puma.
