If you have ever checked out our forum you will know that my putting leaves a lot to be desired. I love to get out and practice, but I often find myself practicing more at the range and less at the putting green. It took me a while to figure out why and then it came to me….I am lazy! When you are at the range you hit the ball and it’s gone and there is no need to retrieve it. When practicing at the putting green if I don’t make a shot, or even if I do, I have to go get the ball, bring it back and start all over again. Am proud to be this lazy, not really, but it’s a fact of life so I have decided to embrace it. After many practice sessions with the Robo Cup I can confidently say this may be the ‘coolest’ golf gadget I have ever used. I really only had one issue, I wish it would spit the ball back just a little further. However, there had been quite a bit of rain here in Florida during testing so that did slow down the greens a bit. Instead of quitting my putting practice after ten minutes because I was tired of going back to retrieve my balls I actually found myself out there putting for hours. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be out at the practice green for hours. The Robo Cup actually made putting fun, it was like a game for me to get the ball in the hole so it would fly back. Even if I did not make my put the Caddy Cord helped guide the ball to the cup which then kindly spit the ball back toward me so I could give it another try. I felt like a kid who just got a new toy for their birthday.

The set up for the Robo Cup is quite simple, turn it on, place it in the cup and get to putting. There are a few things to note here, if your cup is too deep you can simply place three balls in the cup first and then place the Robo Cup on top. It won’t be quite as sturdy as when it just sits in the cup, but it still works quite well and will get that ball back to you in a jiffy. For those of you who are still five years old at heart like I am, I advise NOT pushing the button with your fingers to see how the Robo Cup works, let the ball do the pushing and save your fingers.

What I loved the most about the Robo Cup is that it’s not just a ball retriever, it’s actually a pretty great training aid. First and foremost it makes you want to practice putting and it really does have you spending more time on the practice green than you normally would do. By using the Caddy Cord it helps you judge speed and accuracy. As long as you make your putts just past the hole and to the Caddy Cord the rope will guide your ball into the cup, and therefore allowing the Robo Cup to do it’s job and spit the ball right back at you. This really made someone like myself (a.k.a. lazy people) really try to get the ball in the hole or just past it, like you should on the course, so that the ball would come back to me, and I have to say it really worked. Any golf professional will tell you “never leave a putt short, it’s better to be a little past the hole than short” and this machine is a great training aid to help you achieve that.

When we first revealed the unboxing pictures a lot of our forum members asked about the durability of the Robo Cup. After putting it through the wringer we found it to be extremely durable and it help up putt after putt after putt. Thanks to the carrying case it also survived several rounds in the golf cart bouncing around in one of the front compartments. With just 4 AA batteries and a 15,000 putt capacity the Robo Cup is a great invention. My putting game has never been so good and my desire to practice has never been so strong and I believe I owe it all to the Robo Cup.
