When it comes to keeping a keen eye on trends and successes while remaining willing to expand a lineup around them, few brands do it as well as Scotty Cameron.
This time around, it is the most recent Phantom family which released at the beginning of 2026 that sees a new sibling join the party. THP had a full rundown of the mallet release from Scotty Cameron, which can be seen here. Today though, the focus is on one shape within that release, the 9.

When it comes to putters, the players out on Tour are always in tune with what models are gaining success. Typically, that success leads to curiosity, and before you know it there are more players not only trying them out but also making the switch.
In the case of the 9.5R, the charge has been spearheaded by Titleist staffer Cameron Young, who has used the putter during his three wins. The basis to the move for him centered around wanting more toe flow, something that the .5 “Jet” neck does, bringing a blade-like feel to a setup with mallet stability.
Since Young’s success, the popularity has continued to blossom, most recently culminating in being the putter which rookie phenom Jackson Koivun put into the bag just one week before his first Tour win.
With all of that going on, it certainly makes all the sense in the world for Scotty Cameron to bring the shape out to a broader release.
Talking Shop – The Phantom 9.5R Design
At its core, the 9.5R is the same base shape as the 9R and 9.2R which were part of the core release for the 2026 Phantom line. Obviously, the neck is the big difference here, as the 9R is a bend profile while the 9.2R is a crank/plumber’s neck setup. With the 9.5R, the “Jet” slant neck enters the conversation, bringing a good deal more toe flow through the stroke to encourage the aforementioned blade-like feel some are seeking from their mallets.
While the neck is key, the core shape has continued to increase in popularity in its own right, with the “R” designation being a big reason why. That letter simply means that the entire shape is much softer, with more rounded contours and edges, bringing smoothness to what some might consider a more abstract overall shape.
On top of the shaping and bulletproof satin Scotty Cameron finish, the 9.5R uses a single long sightline across the full length of the head, something preferred by Cameron Young as it gave him a cleaner overall look.
Of course, we also have to mention the keynote technology within the entire 2026 Phantom lineup, the insert. Like its siblings, the 9.5R features a carbon steel insert with chain-link milling. The combination of material and aggressive milling pattern means a much more dense sound/feel at impact that is noticeably softer than past stainless-steel face models.
Phantom 9.5R Specs, Price and Availability
The Phantom 9.5R is right-handed only and will come standard at 3.5 degrees of loft, a 70 degree lie angle, paired with a gray “Full Contact” grip. Pre-sale begins on August 25, 2026, with full retail availability starting September 30, 2026. Pricing will be set at $549.
