Shot Scope has built its reputation around delivering practical on-course data without unnecessary complexity. The company’s newest device, the Shot Scope H50 GPS handheld, is designed for golfers that want to keep distance reading simple and those who prefer a larger, more visual display. Rather than competing directly with GPS watches or laser rangefinders, the H50 positions itself as a full-screen, hole-mapping device that stays visible throughout the round.
With a focus on detailed course visualization, elevation-adjusted distances, and ease of use, the H50 is designed to act as a digital caddie that lives on the cart or bag rather than on the wrist.
Shot Scope H50 GPS Overview
The Shot Scope H50 is a large GPS handheld featuring a 4.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen and preloaded access to more than 42,000 golf courses worldwide that Shot Scope can update within 48 hours. It provides front, middle, and back distances, along with the ability to select any point on the hole for precise yardages to hazards, layup areas, or landing zones.

This form factor is clearly aimed at golfers who value visual context. Instead of relying solely on numeric distances, the H50 allows players to see the shape of the hole, understand trouble areas, and plan shots with more information in front of them.
Shot Scope’s Gavin Dear notes that there is a trend towards in-cart GPS systems disappearing, and the H50 is designed with similar functionality in a portable platform.
“You can move points to get distances to and from different points. You can zoom. It walks you up the fairway as you go. It’s a heck of a lot of product for the price point.”
Large Touchscreen GPS Experience

The defining feature of the Shot Scope H50 is its 4.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen. Similar to displays found in modern smartphones, the screen delivers bright colors and sharp contrast, making it easier to read distances and maps in a variety of lighting conditions.
Touch functionality allows golfers to tap anywhere on the hole map to get precise distances, including carry numbers to hazards or layup points off the tee. The H50 supports both portrait and landscape orientations, giving players flexibility in how they view each hole depending on preference or cart placement.
For golfers who find smaller handhelds or watches difficult to read, the larger screen is a meaningful usability advantage rather than a cosmetic upgrade.
Hole Maps, Elevation, and Green Detail
Beyond basic GPS distances, the H50 emphasizes detailed hole mapping and elevation-aware data. Each course is mapped yard by yard, providing a digital elevation model that supports plays-like distances. This helps golfers account for uphill and downhill shots without needing to estimate adjustments manually.

Green contour maps display the overall shape of each putting surface, offering insight into slopes and major elevation changes before stepping onto the green. While this does not replace green reading, it can help golfers identify safe targets, avoid short-siding pins, and approach greens with a clearer plan.
The ability to zoom, pan, and select points directly on the map reinforces the H50’s role as a planning tool rather than just a distance reader.
Magnet, Battery Life, and Everyday Convenience

The Shot Scope H50 includes an extra-strong built-in cart magnet, allowing it to stay securely mounted and visible throughout the round. A premium bag clip is included for walking golfers who prefer to attach the device to their bag. This keeps the device accessible without requiring constant handling or pocket storage.
Battery life is rated at 15-plus hours, enough to comfortably cover multiple rounds or extended days on the course. The H50 is also IPX7 rated, offering protection against rain and wet conditions and USB-C charging ensures compatibility with modern charging setups.
Why Wouldn’t I Just Use My Phone, Watch, Laser?
We pose this question because it was one of the first things that came to our mind, and it’s probably popped into many of your heads as well. The reality is that GPS has become far less modular than it was 10 years ago. It’s accessible to just about anybody with a phone in their pocket.
How does the H50 GPS compete with that? We talked with Shot Scope’s Gavin Dear, and he was quick to note that there is strong demand from consumers for a dedicated GPS with a full screen, advanced course and green maps, and a subscription free model.

The H50 has two major “quality of life” features that are easy to miss at first glance: the cart magnet and the bag clip. These features allow the H50 to stay on all the time and be placed somewhere that is easy to see. No more fumbling around your pocket or lighting up the screen on your phone for a distance reading. A simple glance is that is needed, making the technology shareable with anybody nearby and much less intrusive than some other options. The IPX7 rating also means that you can leave it out even during bad weather.
While lasers are easy to use and can provide immense benefit, they can’t see over hills or through trees. The H50 provides a visual interface to help you plan out your shots.
Shot Scope H50 GPS Scoring, Stats, and Post-Round Features

In addition to GPS functionality, the H50 includes a digital scorecard and multiplayer mode supporting up to four players. Golfers can track scores during the round and review performance afterward.
Manual shot tracking allows users to log shots and unlock access to over 100 statistics, including strokes gained metrics, when paired with the Shot Scope mobile app on iOS or Android via Bluetooth. This makes the H50 more than a distance device, extending its usefulness into post-round analysis for those that choose to do so.
For players who enjoy reviewing data without wearing a GPS watch, this combination of handheld GPS and statistical tracking adds versatility.
Our Perspective – Shot Scope H50 GPS
The Shot Scope H50 makes the most sense for golfers who prefer a large, easy-to-read GPS display and value seeing the entire hole rather than relying solely on distance numbers. The combination of a high-resolution touchscreen, detailed hole maps, green heat maps, and elevation-adjusted distances positions it as a strong option for both cart riders and walking golfers who like planning shots visually.
This is not a device aimed at replacing a laser rangefinder or a lightweight GPS watch. Instead, it fills a specific role for players who want constant access to hole information without wearing technology on their wrist or dealing with a mobile phone. Stay tuned as we explore this device further in the coming months.
Pricing and Availability
The Shot Scope H50 GPS handheld is priced at $199.99 in the United States and includes a two-year warranty along with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Each unit comes with a premium bag clip, cleaning cloth, and USB-C charging cable.

How are the greens mapped? Will there be a slope variable added? Those are the two biggest weaknesses out this way for daily tracks.
Well that is spring as Jamie noted. Can't wait hope y'all built a bunch of them. .;)

Simply going back to GPS.
Plus, the magnetic and put it in my pocket aspect is killer.
The magnet is such a simple add but makes a handheld so much more convenient IMO.
For me the allure here is the form factor. I’ve been playing with a watch for years and while the auto distance tracking is nice, navigating the course map is infinitely easier on a handheld. Especially as I get older. Plus I don’t have a watch tan to add to the already goofy golf tan. Throw in the price to feature ratio they’re bringing to bear here and this seems like a winner out of the gate.

For those that will be diving in on the H50, what is the 1 feature you are most excited about???
For me it’s having the entire hole pictured right there in front of you. Having the distance to hazards from anywhere on the course in the palm of my hand will be game changing.

For me it’s just the idea of an upgrade of the SkyCaddie I currently use (and enjoy), with no annual fee. The green view looks cool too.

Heck yes. I miss my SkyCaddie, but never got back in because of the fee, this though, this is a day one order for me, and I cannot wait to put it into play

I did see that date, and I actually found a website that was charging a $25 deposit for pre-orders. The $25 goes towards the cost. However, I would much rather order direct from Shot Scope. Not sure if I should list the website here or not, is that allowed or recommended?

March 9th, for immediate shipment. You will get an email that day once it is available for shipping.

My question is, when can you actually pre order? And how? I see nothing on the website and I have not received an email from Shot Scope in order to pre order.
Thanks

We were told at the PGA Show that there would not be a pre order for the H50

Dude Same. I really enjoyed the old Skycaddie experience but the cost of the subscription moved me off of that platform. This looks like a perfect setup for that, and my being in the shot scope ecosystem already makes this an easy grab.

What I was thinking too. Several platforms have claimed to have heat maps on our local courses but haven’t really. At least not accurate ones.

That was a big reason I wanted to try the T11pro but none of the courses I played were mapped and the one that was mapped seemed like opposite world

Specific to the H50 just now. I think anything we have coming out with a larger screen and the definition required we will add.
Our current range of watches, the screens are too small and they are MIP so would not allow the definition required.

Yeah, so I felt that £249.99 worked well in the UK market in comparison to competition. The H50 in the US, we wanted to try and be a bit more aggressive.

Thanks for the transparency on this one @Gavin – Shot Scope – it’s appreciated. As I said I don’t think it is a bad price for us in the UK.
Those in the US are getting it for a steal though !!!!

Absolutely, we have been consistently asked for it in the UK, I can see it on electric trolleys via a holder. In the US response has been marmite, either people love it or don’t see it.
That being said it is what I am using with a PRO ZR. Absolutely love it.

Have already checked out the GPS holder for the Powakaddy and working out how I would install it with the other accessories.
