Shot Scope just keeps on innovating. From the start, they have proven that just living on past successes isn’t something that interests them. No, they have kept their focus squarely on providing golfers with devices dedicated to implementing the best distance measurement based technologies and designs to help them improve. While their GPS and shot tracking systems are often the main focus, the brand also understands the fondness that golfers have for rangefinders.
That brings us to the present, and the introduction of Shot Scope’s newest laser rangefinder, the PRO ZR.

Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder
If you have been following THP, then you know we have covered both their PRO LX and PRO L2 rangefinders, and both have been met with a range of positive feedback. However, some felt that there was a level of form and finish which both options lacked. The new PRO ZR certainly appears to be Shot Scope looking to put an end to such thoughts.

The brand is referring to the PRO ZR as their “most robust and rugged” rangefinder yet. Diving into the design and materials involved, that certainly looks to be the case, but it also looks much more refined as well.

Externally, the PRO ZR is made of a DuraShield Hardshell material which looks to not only provide longevity, but resistance to treacherous weather conditions on the course. The ergonomics appear from Shot Scope’s pictures to be more substantial and thought out with its shaping as well as gripping surfaces. Not to mention, the very nice touch of shifting the slope trigger towards the front of the unit makes one wonder why it hasn’t been done before as it visually just makes sense.

Internally, the PRO ZR uses an LCD display with 6x visuals and the ability to choose between black or red optics based upon user preference. The unit has a 1500 yard range and uses Shot Scope’s “Rapid Fire Detection” and target-lock vibration to give as much feedback as possible when ranging a shot. Also, because I know some of you are currently wondering about it, yes, Shot Scope has also utilized a magnet on the PRO ZR so it can be attached as desired.
The Details
Shot Scope is clearly committed to creating the most well-rounded assortment of distance devices that they can, and the PRO ZR looks like a very solid step forward for them in the laser segment. The device will be priced at $299.99. Be sure to keep an eye on THP, as we will have much more on the new PRO ZR, including in-hand feedback, very soon!

It really is. And it’s a super strong magnet. I couldn’t imagine a rangefinder without it.
Honestly, the ZR has it all.

Love the quality and price of this unit. Such a good rangefinder and on an overcast day like today made easy work of yardages with the red display. Now the number one reason I hate magnets on range finders as I used to forget them on the frame of carts and as todays example proved that I still do. Luckily I called the course 10 minutes after I left and they tracked it down as I’ve lost 2 in the past doing the same thing. Don’t get me wrong the magnet on these are great if you’re not a complete and utter idiot by leaving it attached to the cart (firmly I might add) when you leave. Happy I didn’t lose it as it’s great but I need to do a system to remember it better.
I was set to upgrade my V3 to the X5, but have yet to convince myself to bypass the Pro ZR just yet. Budget/boss says I can go either/or, but not both, and I’m thinking this is where I’ll land. Soon.

If you buy the x5 directly from shot scope, you can save about $50 with coupon code “TOP100GC”. Good luck!

Worked for me. Unless it was a one use only thing.
Got to put this in play this weekend for my birthday round. First off, this feels solid. It fits the hand well and has a good weight to it. The lens is very clear with good magnification. But the place this excels the most is how quick it locks on to targets. Compared to my previous Bushnell this is night and day better!!

Loving the color options on this so far. Not a ray of sun in the sky yesterday with all the clouds before the storms came and the red performed beautifully. Yardages come up nice and quickly, clear, an match when you shoot multiple times.

I really think I need to get one to replace my beloved Boice Caddie with. The weight of this one in hand from the pga show still has me enamored.
At a charity scramble today each of us had a different rangefinder. The flags for some reason were giving my teammates trouble getting readings yet the pro zr locked on fast. After a few holes they stopped trying and had me laser the pins
Great day on course today. Playing with new irons and had total confidence in the yardages they were going based on this. Was able to see really well through the lens, lettering and numbers are crystal clear.
Another round and I’m still enamored with this. It locks on and gets the yardage so quickly compared to my previous unit. I used to have to tuck my elbows into my chest and hold as steady as I could to get a reading but with this I can just sweep across the flag and get a reading

Such a great device. It is so amazing that you don’t have to think about anything when you use it. Quick shot and you got everything there to hit your next shot.
What a great range finder Shot Scope has created all in one package in the Pro ZR. Love being able to quickly hit the pin then move on to the top edge of a bunker to know what space I have between or need to clear. The unit feels sturdy and well built in hand and the Red option is a understated feature in early/late rounds.

It’s honestly one of the features I didn’t think I needed, but switching depending on if it is sunny or overcast is absolutely amazing.
I’m glad I found this review. I bought a Bushnell V5 a couple of weeks ago and it struggles picking up the flag,120 yards or less it’s fine, anything over, I can’t get it to lock on. It was very frustrating so I’m sending it back, I bought it through Amazon so free returns. I’ve had good luck with my previous Bushnell rangefinder, but it looks like I’m going to pick up the Shot Scope PRO ZR.
So we got one of these at the Data Experience and I was excited to get it out on the course. The day I picked was rainy of course and I stuck it on the cart using the handy magnet with the eyepiece facing up. Well we had the most talkative caddy I have ever seen with us that gave us yardages so I never really used the rangefinder that much. We went out again in the afternoon and the first time that I used the rangefinder then I look in and it is all fogged over. Couldn’t see anything out of it. I asked Gavin about it and he said it should go back to normal once the condensation has some time to evaporate. Well the humid and cold NJ weather didn’t help with getting the range finder dried out, but once I got back to AZ I was able to mount the range finder in my garage off of my toolbox with the eye piece pointed down. 24 hrs later and all the moisture was gone, I could see out of the range finder and everything worked great.
Using the rangefinder it is super quick to get you the info and is pretty hefty feeling in your hand. I like the construction of it as I have had some pretty flimsy range finders in the past. The magnet is strong as well. Really looking forward to using it more and not have the most talkative caddy in the world.
I have shaky hands when using range finders to where I had started to move away from them. This thing is so quick and so stable that I had zero issues finding the flag or bunker lip I was looking at during the Data Experience. Really excited to not be afraid to pull it out often.

Agreed. I had thoughts of timing it against the L1 but it’s so fast I’m not able to time hitting the button till I have a reading
My Pro ZR just arrived, to say this thing is fast is an understatement! Feels great in my hand, the perfect size, I just played around in the yard but it picked up everything so quick. I can’t wait to get it on the course on Friday.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts after your round.
where have magnets been all my life…!

I used mine this week and came away really impressed. The speed of the unit has been mentioned but have a fun anecdote for that. My playing partner and I were probably both around 140 yards out and had to carry a bunker. I pulled out the rangefinder, shot the pin and bunker lip, and relayed the message to him. His response? ”wait, you got both those numbers that fast? I don’t believe you” and proceeded to measure himself as he thought I might have been guessing on the cover distance.
League last night and this worked extremely well in cloudy sky’s with the red display allowing me to see everything clearer than just a black readout. A really nice unit that packs a punch coming in below the competitors price points.
Used mine on the course for the first time yesterday. I’ll say it again, this thing is fast! It would pick up the flag so fast, I thought it was a mistake. Size is perfect, not too bulky, and the red display was nice early in the round when it was cloudy.
I would recommend anyone looking for a new rangefinder to check this one out.
The change was made.
I still think this is the best laser on the market and it’s not close

Can’t argue, just finished 18 and in between this and the V5 decisions and speed are outstanding
I haven’t owned many range finders, but I struggle to see what can be faster, more stable, and more features, especially at this price point, in the market. Plus I love the heft.
My review of the Pro ZR that was provided to me by Shot Scope for my participation in the 2024 Data Experience
Ease of Use: I have owned many range finders over the years. In fact I have “donated” a few by leaving them in the golf cart. I have used Bushnell, Tec Tec Tec, Precision Pro, and Shot Scope before. I will say they all pretty much operate the same and I would say accuracy is not really an issue with any of them. Getting the Pro ZR out and using it was just like any other range finder in its form and function. Changing from black to red image is easy and the slope button is pretty easy to use as well. The provided carrying case is high quality and you can zip or use a bungee to close. The magnet is pretty stout and self explanatory on how to use, at least I hope.
During Use: Where this unit is different is the speed at which it captures a distance. A flag out on the green you can get the reading noticeably faster than with other range finders. When there are people on the green and all standing in the the way of the flag it may take a little more time to get the reading but it is pretty good still. Also while using it feels more robust in the hand. It is not heavy but it feels well put together as compared to all plastic models. It fits in the hand well and the focus is pretty easy to get dialed in.
Miscellaneous:

I do recommend the product if someone is in need of a new range finder.

I’m used the same PP unit for most of my rounds since last year’s Budget&BagBoy event. So my question is a little more pointed towards comparison to that device because I know it’s one you’ve used recently as well.
How do you think the clarity is between the two? Any distinguishable differences? Also, how about magnet strength? I’ve had a couple of instances where the PP fell off a cart(one time I showed off my reflexes and the other not so much).
How do you feel about the location of the button? I feel like its in a different position than some others for some reason. Not in a bad way just different.
Also I know I have said this previously but I love the red display. Previous lasers I’ve used that had a red I had to turn off on sunny days but this one doesn’t seem to matter.
I’ve had a couple that give you both colors on the display and I really like it. Esp on the cloudy days where the red is fantasic.
This thread has me seriously considering upgrading from my Shotscope pro L1 laser that I’ve had for many years even though I have no issues with it.

Yes my Precision Pro has dings from flying off of the cart. I have not seen the Pro ZR fly off but to be fair it has only been on a cart once. I will bring both the the course tomorrow to see how they feel side by side on the cart.
I really haven’t noticed a difference in clarity. I have seen some scratches on Precision Pro unit but they are not in my general field of view.

I am one of those that once I get used to something I don’t ever think about it again. Once I figured out the buttons on top it was easy and didn’t take to long. The slope slider is easy to change on the fly as well.

I know this wasn’t pointed at me, but I’ll field it. I’m still having a bit of an adjustment period with the settings and shooting buttons all on top. Maybe others have that same alignment comapred to the more basic range finder I had prior, but it hasn’t come naturally yet.
I guess the silver lining is I am getting good at experiencing both red and black.
