Shot Scope just keeps on innovating. From the start, they have proven that just living on past successes isn’t something that interests them. No, they have kept their focus squarely on providing golfers with devices dedicated to implementing the best distance measurement based technologies and designs to help them improve. While their GPS and shot tracking systems are often the main focus, the brand also understands the fondness that golfers have for rangefinders.
That brings us to the present, and the introduction of Shot Scope’s newest laser rangefinder, the PRO ZR.

Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder
If you have been following THP, then you know we have covered both their PRO LX and PRO L2 rangefinders, and both have been met with a range of positive feedback. However, some felt that there was a level of form and finish which both options lacked. The new PRO ZR certainly appears to be Shot Scope looking to put an end to such thoughts.

The brand is referring to the PRO ZR as their “most robust and rugged” rangefinder yet. Diving into the design and materials involved, that certainly looks to be the case, but it also looks much more refined as well.

Externally, the PRO ZR is made of a DuraShield Hardshell material which looks to not only provide longevity, but resistance to treacherous weather conditions on the course. The ergonomics appear from Shot Scope’s pictures to be more substantial and thought out with its shaping as well as gripping surfaces. Not to mention, the very nice touch of shifting the slope trigger towards the front of the unit makes one wonder why it hasn’t been done before as it visually just makes sense.

Internally, the PRO ZR uses an LCD display with 6x visuals and the ability to choose between black or red optics based upon user preference. The unit has a 1500 yard range and uses Shot Scope’s “Rapid Fire Detection” and target-lock vibration to give as much feedback as possible when ranging a shot. Also, because I know some of you are currently wondering about it, yes, Shot Scope has also utilized a magnet on the PRO ZR so it can be attached as desired.
The Details
Shot Scope is clearly committed to creating the most well-rounded assortment of distance devices that they can, and the PRO ZR looks like a very solid step forward for them in the laser segment. The device will be priced at $299.99. Be sure to keep an eye on THP, as we will have much more on the new PRO ZR, including in-hand feedback, very soon!

So the course today put alternating speeds bumps on a steep grade. It was weird and needless to say it was a bumpy ride. The magnet on this didn’t budge at all as the cart was bouncing all over. We were jostled enough I really don’t have concerns it may get thrown off at all.

I’m used the same PP unit for most of my rounds since last year’s Budget&BagBoy event. So my question is a little more pointed towards comparison to that device because I know it’s one you’ve used recently as well.
How do you think the clarity is between the two? Any distinguishable differences? Also, how about magnet strength? I’ve had a couple of instances where the PP fell off a cart(one time I showed off my reflexes and the other not so much).
Yes the Pro ZR magnet is noticeably stronger, IMO, than the Precision Pro NX10. I won’t guarantee it won’t fly off the cart but it seemed more secure.
I got to play around with one of these today. It’s so fast to hit a target. I used it to scope out landing spots and it was easy and quick to get a number. It’s impressive.
Very premium feel. Got a nice heft to it without being hefty. Shotscope has a winner with this one.

My NX10 took a nasty spill today. Scuffed up pretty badly.
Didn’t have the watch today with a last minute round, but did have this rangefinder. Still loving the magnet. It’s my first range finder with one and I’m not looking back at this point.
I’m not sure what brand my cartner had, but he was very impressed with the heft of the ZR. He may be getting himself a Fathers Day present…
One or two times with my shaky hands I grabbed the trees on the back side. I started to appreciate the haptics for the pin lock.

Just another follow up. I have played 5 rounds in the last 6 days and this rangefinder has not fallen off the cart yet. I was not gentle driving around the course either.

I’m not sure what it would take to knock it off, honestly.
I like what I’m seeing about these. I’m still using a pretty old pretty basic rangefinder, but after using a friend’s newer one I’m pondering upgrading finally. Does anyone wear glasses that has one of these? How has your experience been using it with wearing your glasses? or do you look through it without your glasses?

I wear glasses and it works fine in black, in red if you’re not close enough it’ll glare a bit but goes away once you close in enough. Focus is great and easy to do.

Much appreciated. I’ve had struggles with some in the past, including my current. That sounds promising.

Well boys I finally did it, the Pro ZR fell off the cart last night. You cannot tell but this crater got me. I didn’t see it until it was too late, you can’t tell as good from the photo but it was pretty deep too. The ZR took its first and hopefully only tumble

Range finder worst enemy. Benefit of having a watch and range finder as the water mist gave range finder fits but a watch backup came in clutch.
The course I played last week has a lot of very rough entry and exit points from the fairway back to the cart path and my ZR pro got knocked off twice in the first 4 holes. End up just placing it in the cubby for the round vs risking it falling continuously. First time I’ve had that issue without it being me knocking it off the cart post. Unit is fine after falling, still works really well. No issues for me using it while wearing glasses. Love the option of switching between the red and the black Usually have it in black but the red is helpful in certain conditions
Curious on the magnets which models are doing it. Talked to Gavin during the trip and he said the first 1000 built, have a weaker magnet than the newer ones.
Not really a complaint but an observation I’ve noticed. The placement of the buttons on the top of the unit…. I have several times accidentally hit the mode button. I now realize it shows M1 or M2 but a few times it wasn’t picking up the pin anymore and I it took me a bit to figure out why. I don’t even know what I would use the other mode for I always want it in pin mode. The main button also for me at least seems to be a little off for my hands anyways.

I felt the same say when switching from Shot Scope to review a Bushnell but reverse, so I think you get used to it.
Interesting. I have just noticed my fingers have hit the buttons a few times. I shoot the pin and its not picking it up. I now know to look at the mode but the first time it happened I was so confused as to what was going on because its usually so quick.
Still a big fan of the red display too. I put it in black and thought…boring haha

Red really is the superior color…

That is quite the hole, and quite impressive that it took something that arguably could have taken out the cart to knock it off
I cannot get over how amazing this laser is.
First off, the red is unlike any other, and I am not sure it is said enough.
Its best in class for speed.
Best in class for durability in my opinion.
Best in class for magnet.
It has every feature one could want and overall, just cannot say enough good things about it.

one of those should surely work
Could not agree more. I switched to red crosshairs a few rounds ago and not going back
Anyone having issues with it locking on the flag instead of the back of the green or similar? Maybe it’s my shaky hands but I was really struggling to get a solid reading…Am I missing something?

I have not. In fact one of the easiest to use. Have you tried holding and scanning the area to lock on?

I’ll certainly fiddle with it more. I always assume user error before bad product. I think I was single tapping more than holding so I’ll try that.

Scanning makes a big difference and makes it a lot easier especially if you’re like me and don’t have the greatest vision and the pin blends in with the trees behind it.

Thank you for this tip. Night and day difference! Very happy I held into it.
Had a hazy range session and was using this to shoot a few targets to understand distances. Played with the focus ring on it for the first time and not only was it easy to use I was pretty floored how crisp the image was. The optics were so good I hadn’t fiddle with the focus to date, but this took it to another level for me.
I went over a bump where it felt like I was airborne (I wasn’t) and the Pro ZR never moved from the side of the cart due to the magnet. I cannot believe how strong the magnet is. I let someone use it today at the range and he was like, “Woah the red is cool.”
I haven’t looked back since switching and the red is the best done in the entire industry
This device is so much better than the Bushnell Tour V6 that I was using. Faster, more responsive in general, far better red optics.
Just overall a fantastic rangefinder.

You all weren’t kidding about the red. it is RED! It legit reminds me of trying to play games on a Virtual Boy from 1995!

And then the performance backs it up in my opinion
Took mine on its maiden voyage this weekend. So glad I listened to JB and others – this thing is incredible
Super Fast
Premium Feel
Best Optics
Strong Magnet
For the price – not sure how it could be best
So with the Shot Scope watch I don’t use the ZR all that much. Pulled it out on the range today to confirm some distances and it just reminded me how fast it is.
I played a round early morning last week and when I looked through and had the red markings it was amazing in the lower light situation I was in. I think the black still looks better when the sun is full bore but any cloud cover or low sun the red looks amazing.
Just bought one after reading this thread, got great deal.
