In what is arguably the worst kept secret in golf, the V3 edition of Shot Scope is being launched and the company listened to every aspect of consumer feedback to bring a fantastic device to market.
Rewinding a bit before diving into the technology and our early feedback, Shot Scop3 V2 was extremely well liked, although some users found it to be a bit bulky on the wrist. Those that used the previous version generally liked the data, accuracy and overall user interface quite a bit.
Hitting golf stores now, the V3 takes that GPS and Performance Tracking watch, and like the movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, makes it tiny in comparison. To use a comparison, this is right around the same size and shape of an Apple Watch, and weighs next to nothing. In fact, during my first round, I actually forgot I was wearing it and this is coming from a golfer that never wears a watch during play.
So what is new? A lot. A whole lot actually. The V3 added dual GPS Accuracy, which is designed to give it industry leading accuracy on the course. But what about the changes you can see? The V2 had kind of a bland screen, so it has been upgraded with full color, which is fantastic when needing a quick glance to get hazard info. The unit is actually preloaded now with 35,000 courses, rather than needing to sync the device. Want style? The V3 drops in multiple watch band colors to coordinate if you would like. Finally, battery life, actually more on that shortly.
The story behind V3 is what Shot Scope calls AI Swing and Performance Tracking Technology. That is a mouthful, but what it means is that the more you play using the device, the more data it collects and will be able to offer some incredible statistics aimed at making you better. This is all done in the background, so it is nothing you have to fidget with during the round. In fact, the only thing you need to do is tell the device how many putts you had after completing each hole by a simple click of one of the four buttons (if you five putt, you have bigger issues), and then move on to the next hole. No phone in the pocket, no screens to mess with, nothing at all, just play your game and Shot Scope works in the background.
We get asked a lot about battery life and the V2 definitely had no issues getting in a full round of golf. The V3 offers 10+ hours, and in our testing it might be even more. Testing it on the course I was on the green on the 14th hole of the 3rd round over the course of 4 days before it went caput.
When you get the device, there are a couple of things you need to do to get going right away. Obviously the simple part is charging it up with the supplied cord and then making sure you download the mobile app that matches your cell phone. Quick note, we have only tried the iOS app, but it worked extremely well. Like a traditional watch (and yes, this can be worn as one with what they call Everyday Watch Mode), you wear it on your left wrist for RH golfers or right wrist for LH golfers, then screw in the club tags in the grip end of your clubs. This step sounds tedious, but it is super easy. When you get to the course click play and choose the mode you would like (GPS, GPS and Data or Data). The first time we used it the load time took several minutes at the course, so give yourself a few while at the range or putting green. Then you are ready to play.
On the course, all you have to do is use Pin Collect, which is their quick version mentioned earlier about pressing the button associated with how many putts you had on a given hole. The rest is done for you, unless you are like me and hit a couple of hazards. I was genuinely surprised to see how well the watch handled the penalties. You click the button in the top left for menu and then press which penalty you had. That is it.
There are competitions with other Shot Scope users that can be had during the round, but since we were using the device before it was released, we have not tried it out as of yet.
For the golfer that is unsure if they want the statistics or data, let me share with you a quick story because like you, I never wanted to know. Didn’t care and assumed I knew. I was tasked with jotting down the clubs that I use the most and least in my bag and then play 5 rounds of golf wearing the V3. Turns out, I was way off base and Shot Scope not only told me about what clubs were used, but also how well I used them (not anything like I had thought).
After using this for a number of rounds, I am not sure I want to go without it. Not only did we find the GPS extremely accurate and match up to the GPS on the golf carts we used, but the post round data through the free mobile app is extremely enjoyable and done so without a monthly subscription fee, unlike a few other data tracking devices that charge a fee.
Shot Scope is also launching a standard GPS Watch to go along with the V3 and they call it the G3. It does everything the V3 does, minus the data tracking. Still loaded with 35,000 courses, still has Dual GPS and a color screen. Still no subscription.

I did not. Wasn’t aware I needed to do that.
Video shows the club being selected next to the middle yardage.
i usually tap the watch band since that is where the RFID antenna is. I have maybe 1 missed shot every other round.
Ask me this again on the next live stream. I have a great story about this from the early days.
We map every course ourselves, so understand if fairways are close together so can make sure that shots are displayed on the correct holes. Switching holes is easy because we know when you are on the green and finished. We also have a lock screen function so that there are no accidental button presses.
– Recording the number of "putts" on the pin collect screen in Auto mode instead of the number of times the putter was used, if it was used from off the green.
– Shots that do no travel far enough (I wish I knew what that distance was) so as to recognize two shots instead of a shot and a practice swing (duffed chips, shots left in a bunker, etc.). This happened to me today. Chipping up a steep slope it didn’t make the crest and came back basically to my feet. Even changing clubs didn’t help in recognizing two shots. Had to add the first while editing.
– Choking down too far on the club such that the tag is not withing the 10cm they indicate it needs to be to be recognized. Choking down itself is not always a problem provided the club has been recognized first in my experience
– A waggle or practice swing is recommended before taking the shot though I’ve taken shots with no practice swing.
Still battling putts a little bit and getting a feel for marking the pin, but besides that, I had no misreads yesterday, and it’s as quick as making sure watch has the correct club with a glance, and going. Didn’t slow me down at all.
I know I’ve said it before, but this was the biggest draw. I love the data I get currently with Arccos, especially when reviewing the performance of clubs. But, the tracking has taken some enjoyment out of the game for me. I disliked having to have my phone, especially checking yardages and for missed shots. I’m really looking forward to a quick glance at the watch to get yardage, then the dashboard to sift through the data collected. More golfing, more discussions with friends, and more fun on the course.
The only thing I’m hesitant on is wearing a watch. I do normally wear a watch when I’m in the office, so golfing shouldn’t be an issue, and it sounds like it hasn’t been for those who have the V3. But still, the only item I’m hesitant on.
There are some REALLY cool metrics and shareables in this too:

Actually I like the layout of that app.
I don’t usually wear a watch unless I’m golfing. I have the s1 for f/m/b and wore on my right wrist. However, V3 will be on my left wrist. Only used V3 on range so far and no issues.
The gray is what I have. Looks so good!
Played in 1:40 too
It is supposed to arrive today. Won’t actually use it until after Christmas though. Bought for my wife to give to me for Christmas. At least I know I am getting something really good!
Yes there is a putter sensor. Works pretty well too.
Theres a sensor, it works better than Arccos by a lot. It just takes a few to switch to putter at times on the watch. It records all strokes, post round editing has been necessary for me so far in terms of putt locations and distances being off a bit. But, it only takes a few minutes, and all other swings have been spot on for me.
I had to cut a couple of threads off the sensor with my strokelab grip, but it stayed in just fine. I added clear epoxy around it just for extra comfort, but it wasn’t necessarily needed.
Nah, it’s round like all the other sensors, screwed in fine to my SNSR.
After about 50ish rounds I stopped tweaking every putt.
In the end, the law of averages takes over and as long as it’s not blatantly off, you just "Let it Go"
YRMV
I like to know where my miss percentages are on the greens
My SNSR has a bit of bend in the grip, and it didn’t play super nice with the sensor. Trimmed it a little, works just fine now.
I can’t do the Arrcos one, but give me two sec and I’ll snap a photo of the shotscope one. Have my putter right next to me.
I had to delete the two hybrid shots I have on mine, I cold topped one of them and the other was in a divot and I was just trying to punch it down the fairway. Apparently I hit my hybrid 95 yards.
Feels rude for no reason ?
If you had a putter cap that was flat, it would fit just fine and flush with it. Not much I can do about that axe handle like cap.
Look at the performance average. That takes out all the duffed shots.
That’s good to know for future reference. I labeled them as positional shots to kick it out that way, but also, ego. 95 yard hybrid, how dare you Shotscope.
Nope, felt like a call out. All I read was, "looks stupid on a putter, just like you" and now I feel personally attacked.
So long as the sensor isn’t falling out and I can’t accidentally grip it and not the end of the grip (looking at you, Arrcos giant rubber end) then I will eventually get over it.
Yeah, I’m not going to include those pulled tops that grab a magnolia and head OB in my distances. Need every yard I can get nowadays.
Just bear in mind doing that will probably skew your stats. If you are 200 out and you top a hybrid, it’ll count against you in your approach stats because you didn’t hit the green. If you mark it as a positional shot, shot scope treats that as you were never going for the green, so it won’t be included in your approach stats. All depends on how accurate you want your stats to be.
He wants them to make him look as good as possible. Any missed approach is positional. Any putt from within sight of the fringe is a chip.
That is also true. With only one round in, I can likely just let it be figured out over time. The two holes it happened on were so into the wind, I was about 50yds behind my normal on the hole to begin with. It was just a lovely gusty November day!
If you don’t like the way that a tag fits or looks on a putter, use "Manual" mode. No need for a putter tag at all. Just mark the location when you line up or stand over each put, then hit the Pin Collect button over the hole.
Gonna try this tomorrow, thank you sir!
V3
1) On your watch home screen, press the bottom right button to change the screen option from ‘Play’ to ‘Settings’. Press the top right button to enter into the ‘Settings’ menu.
2) Press the bottom right button so that ‘Putting’ is shown in the middle of the screen. Press the top right button to enter this section.
3) The putt mode should be by default ‘Auto’. Press the bottom right button to switch to ‘Manual’
4) Press the top right button to confirm your choice.
To record the position of a putt press the top right button (+) whilst standing above your ball before each putt. Continue this process until you have holed your ball. A maximum of 4 putts can be recorded. Before removing your ball from the hole you would stand over the hole and press the bottom right button (Pin icon) to record the pin location on that hole.
I think we need a Shot Scope V3 for Dummies thread. As I’m about to be one of those Dummies
Or I could read the manual, but learning from y’all is much more fun!
Lmao, is it that off putting?
Interesting. I guess I just don’t ever see the butt of the club in my putting grip
I did have a 187 PW ???
