The muscle back.
Beauty. Nostalgia. Feel. Fear. Desire.
Is there any other club in golf that can elicit a response with so much breadth?
We are blessed today as golfers to be in such an age of innovation and cutting-edge performance. When it comes to those things in irons, Srixon Golf is absolutely among the top of the game, and their new ZX4, ZX5, and ZK7 MKII’s are a shining example of that. But you have to love a company who also respects the classics. It is for that reason when I found out the Z-Forged II was accompanying the new MKII lineup for 2023, I felt every single emotion I listed above.

Srixon Z-Forged II
While we aren’t likely to see a pivot by the golfing masses back to a muscle back iron, Tour golfers like many of those in Srixon’s stable have an appreciation and attachment to the classics. The original Z-Forged has been a staple in the bag of many in their lineup and while there may only be so much you can do with a one-piece forged blade, the new Z-Forged II was designed to check the boxes of all the feedback the company has received on the original.

The Z-Forged II irons are milled out of solid blocks of 1020 Carbon Steel to excruciatingly exact specifications. You see, in a muscle back, it is all about the shaping, after all, you don’t have a lot of material/surface-area to play around with. Every angle and line on these new irons is sharp and as slim as possible working in conjunction with Srixon’s Tour V.T. Sole to create a unique combination of sole widths and bounce angles throughout the set. If you have read any of my past articles on Srixon irons, then you know I cannot applaud that sole design enough as you will be hard pressed to find any which glides through the turf like the V.T.

At the rear of the club, specific focus was placed on shifting a notable amount of mass compared to the first iteration of Z-Forged. By removing mass on the heel and toe region and moving it behind the center of the club the feel and precision is improved, while the ability to carve and shape shots remains as possible as ever. If that weren’t enough, the set also utilizes variable groove designs with the 3-7i having wider ones for longer shots in all conditions, and the 8-PW much closer, set wedge like grooves.

The Details
The set plays off a 46-degree PW and will be available in 3-PW. Additionally, the new Srixon Z-Forged II will be paired with Nippon N.S. PRO Modus3 Tour 120 (S, X) and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips. The modern muscle backs from Srixon will be priced at $1,199.99 for the 7-piece set, and they will be available 4/19/23.
Do you have the game for these? Or, like me, do you enjoy thinking about having the game for a set of irons like these? Hop into the fray and share those thoughts with thousands of golfers just like you on the THP Community or in the comments below!

Love at first site. Unfortunately my game isn’t strong enough to even attempt to put these in the bag.
Really nice! Great preview there @Jman
All the feels you mentioned. Won’t be in my bag but damn
Those look outstanding. One could build a pretty awesome combo set between these releases
Love the look. It’s such a clean profile.
Glad you all enjoyed the preview article!
These irons give me all the feels.
Wow beautiful irons!
Looks a bit T-Zoid-y, which is not a bad thing.
well beyond my skill level but damn those would be nice to look at everything you pull a club out of the bag!
Those are beautiful!
Probably above my pay grade but man those are pretty
Wow those look nice.
Good write up @Jman. Interesting design there with the thicker top line and slight offset. Makes blades look a tad more inviting.

That, is a thicker topline? ?
I’m sure these play better than prior generations but I’m not a fan of all these sharp edges.

Not thick but a tad thicker than other blades. I should have been more specific. These actually look very inviting in that address photo.

I can say honestly that for measurement, they’re not going to be thicker, but Srixon uses a squared off topline which definitely gives that appearance more than a beveled one if that makes sense.
Srixons line up this year is just straight up ????. Can’t wait to give all the new stuff a try.
Holy ****……
These are
Oh my those are purdy!
These look great!! Scary, but great!
That intro statement is ?. Well done @Jman. These are gorgeous. Sharp, angular, slightly terrifying.

It definitely does. Thanks for the info. I like these. Would make a great PW-9I in a combo set for me. Something tells me these may be headed to your bag since you’ve been teasing blades all winter.
Good stuff @Jman ! That’s a complete 180 from the original Z-Forged iron aesthetically. But, I really like it!
Absolutely stunning.
I definitely saw the same thing noted in the article straight away.. Weight moved straight into the center of the head which is going to be a feel factory.
Holy moly!? I’ve been suffering through a “bored with golf” phase since early November, but … these could light the fire anew. Beautiful.
Blades are so darn pretty.
I had the previous model z-forged and gotta say they were hands down the easiest blade ive ever hit. Slightly larger footprint at address (for a blade).
As much as I rotate equipment, selling my custom z-forged set was my biggest regret. I will definitely hit these this year
They’re way beyond my capabilities, but MAN, Srixon makes some beautiful irons!
Such a good looking set.
They are very pretty, Srixon have another great iron line up this year

I had fun with it!
@Jman can you talk more about the difference in grooves between the 3-7 and 8-pw and the benefits it provides?
These are SOOOOOOO out of my ability to put in the bag, but they are the best-looking blades out imo. nothing comes close to how they present and I wish I was talented enough to have them in the bag.
Holy smokes I want to try these
Those are just beautiful irons, plain and simple
My Goodness!

And it’s welcome. For as much as I adore the feel of most Srixon irons the last ones weren’t my favorite. Larger than some and felt a little thin there. I’m a big fan of them moving some weight back behind the ball.
As much I love that the angles kind of take the look the other direction for me though.
Gorgeous – they remind me of some small brand JDM iron that I see pop up on instagram from time to time that is all about CNC milling to create their heads… will post a picture if they happen to surface again.
Srixon makes really good looking stuff.
These are gorgeous looking irons!
For those curious about the top line, this kind of shows it off.

These would be fun to hit, moving weight behind the ball was huge I think.
Did I miss the info on what some stuff stands for? Is the UH-SL stuff just prototype numbers?

That was a helluva write up.

Wow, those are sexy!!! ???
Wish I had the game and confidence to play these

I’d call them my first tee irons. They look great in the bag on the first tee, but I definitely wouldn’t be able to use them on the course.
Those are gorgeous. I love thinking about irons like these. In my mind, I hit them beautifully. IRL, I might hit 1 in 5 shots decently. But, these irons are just so pretty.
