The muscle back.
Beauty. Nostalgia. Feel. Fear. Desire.
Is there any other club in golf that can elicit a response with so much breadth?
We are blessed today as golfers to be in such an age of innovation and cutting-edge performance. When it comes to those things in irons, Srixon Golf is absolutely among the top of the game, and their new ZX4, ZX5, and ZK7 MKII’s are a shining example of that. But you have to love a company who also respects the classics. It is for that reason when I found out the Z-Forged II was accompanying the new MKII lineup for 2023, I felt every single emotion I listed above.

Srixon Z-Forged II
While we aren’t likely to see a pivot by the golfing masses back to a muscle back iron, Tour golfers like many of those in Srixon’s stable have an appreciation and attachment to the classics. The original Z-Forged has been a staple in the bag of many in their lineup and while there may only be so much you can do with a one-piece forged blade, the new Z-Forged II was designed to check the boxes of all the feedback the company has received on the original.

The Z-Forged II irons are milled out of solid blocks of 1020 Carbon Steel to excruciatingly exact specifications. You see, in a muscle back, it is all about the shaping, after all, you don’t have a lot of material/surface-area to play around with. Every angle and line on these new irons is sharp and as slim as possible working in conjunction with Srixon’s Tour V.T. Sole to create a unique combination of sole widths and bounce angles throughout the set. If you have read any of my past articles on Srixon irons, then you know I cannot applaud that sole design enough as you will be hard pressed to find any which glides through the turf like the V.T.

At the rear of the club, specific focus was placed on shifting a notable amount of mass compared to the first iteration of Z-Forged. By removing mass on the heel and toe region and moving it behind the center of the club the feel and precision is improved, while the ability to carve and shape shots remains as possible as ever. If that weren’t enough, the set also utilizes variable groove designs with the 3-7i having wider ones for longer shots in all conditions, and the 8-PW much closer, set wedge like grooves.

The Details
The set plays off a 46-degree PW and will be available in 3-PW. Additionally, the new Srixon Z-Forged II will be paired with Nippon N.S. PRO Modus3 Tour 120 (S, X) and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips. The modern muscle backs from Srixon will be priced at $1,199.99 for the 7-piece set, and they will be available 4/19/23.
Do you have the game for these? Or, like me, do you enjoy thinking about having the game for a set of irons like these? Hop into the fray and share those thoughts with thousands of golfers just like you on the THP Community or in the comments below!

Damn they look great. @Jman great write up. You mentioned in the article the sole widths and dynamic camber changes club to club. How much camber adjustments are there across a 3-PW for example? Is it noticeable to the eye for example or more subtle?

Did I miss the info on what some stuff stands for? Is the UH-SL stuff just prototype numbers?

Serial Number.
Is it typical for irons in this segment to offer 3-PW? Noticed in the MKII lineup they are offered 3-AW (but 3i separate), is the rationale that more of a “players” iron player less likely to use a set AW?
These look absolutely incredible, just outside of my capability to get the best out of them.
Wow, those are straight up gorgeous
Sadly I have nowhere near the ability to game something like that

Wow, those are sexy!!! ???
Wish I had the game and confidence to play these

Same. Beautiful clubs.
Damn those are nice looking. I wish I were good enough to be able to play blades.
Great looking. Already have the ZX5 in the bag. Would love to compare them side by side. They offer the same Recoil shafts in the MKII as in my ZX5’s. (y)
Anyone make a pre-order on these yet? Was watching the PGA tournament today and couldn’t help but think about them with the Srixon guys being towards the top.

I’m about 95% sure I’m doing this until my Cobra stuff gets here. 6-P. At least.
Another gentle bump. For science.
Those are drop dead gorgeous! I previously had the “65” series combo set and had the 965 blades in the 8-PW and found them a delight to play in that slot. I would definitely go combo set again and slot these in the same irons. I bet some at the Srixon Experience create a few combo sets, I hope I can get in and give them a go ?.
I don’t have the game for them but boy are they beautiful!
No love in more than a week?? Who is lusting over these? (Yeah I’m delusional but enjoying myself )
I still think these are drop dead gorgeous. I am sure I woul have to combo these with the 5’s & 7’s. Pretty sure I’d go 8-PW in a heart beat
These are very nice but not for me. Maybe just the PW
Figured if I’m about to join the party on these I should probably hit it a couple times.

Pretty tasty feels. I played yesterday and am in the morning, so I didn’t want to get loose, but the numbers were real solid over a handful of shots. Very consistent.

Those sound solid ?
Those are gorgeous. Kinda surprised they don’t have a gap wedge option?
Those are so sexy. I wish I thought I were good enough to play them.
I don’t know how I have missed this thread. Those blades are spectacular.
one thing I have always liked about Srixon blades is that they tend to be slightly longer in blade length.
I’d love, LOVE to give those lil darlings a go….
probably end up losing all confidence I have in my game but……………I’d give them a go. yep.

They are. I like what they did with the weight placement. Better than the last version.

Like I said just hit a handful, and you can tell in the vid I’m trying not to do much, but pretty easy consistency on them. We had to get a little funky on my order process because of their website, so I’m hoping it doesn’t delay anything and I get a shipping notice to start next week.

I honestly don’t know if I would have gone for them without hitting the 221s for a year. Kind of prepped my for a little longer blade.

It is really impressive that they can move it around as there’s not a whole lot you can do with a small, one-piece design. Not quite sure why but these seem….less intimidating than others in the category?

I always have to look it up because I forget their numbers but the Z945 or something like that was an awesome blade. I think these sr more like those than last years blade.
I loved my Z Forged set, will definitely take a look at these, we got our fitting head and I will be doing some testing later this week.

Stupid fast. 😀
Srixon makes a very playable blade. They are always so tempting because you get a little less width in the sole from 7 series, but still that great design. Not much difference in size from say a 923 tour or 620 cb but with a more forgiving sole and friendly top line. Plus, I love what they did with the weight placement. Going back towards their 925 design which was my favorite blade of theirs to date.

Forgot to post some goodness. The rest should be arriving in a few hours. ?
Well I didn’t have to add 7/8g to the head so these seem heavier than the ZX7 MK IIs.

Full ensemble is here and going to work together tomorrow on course. Despite surprisingly good play today I’m nowhere near in fighting shape for a match in a couple weeks. Weather coming Wednesday so it’s time to get ZeXy.
I have absolutely no business being in this thread and, yet, here I am. Gorgeous freaking irons. Hit em well @OldandStiff!

Going to put some thoughts together latter, but initial reaction to first round with the full bag of them is

Struggled with wedges on the front, but these were solid throughout and I got in a serious groove as it went despite not being very used to that shaft. Shaping and sticking in some tough conditions. Already glad I did this.
Really digging these. Wanted to get some stockish numbers yesterday so started with them to get loose before hitting other stuff.

Nice and easy, and 5 right on top of each other. I mean tight. Getting a little mat shallow and non front side these days, so winter rain needs to get lost, but things look to be pretty solid overall. The impact feel with them is just so much better this version. A guy had his prior ones yesterday that I got to hit. Prefer these ?.
Couple more clips from the other day where you might new able to hear some tastiness.

Near miss up another and me being drama about it. Lol
Man, letting people hit my Z Forged II is kind of awesome. They just sell themselves. Good blade felt without being intimidating and a dream through the turf. It’s unreal.

I’m not sure I’d want to be doing this with irons that felt any less good.
And it’s welcome. For as much as I adore the feel of most Srixon irons the last ones weren’t my favorite. Larger than some and felt a little thin there. I’m a big fan of them moving some weight back behind the ball.
As much I love that the angles kind of take the look the other direction for me though.
Thank you for describing the original Z Forged in this manner – thin! They felt thin! All this time I could never accurately describe they way they felt…
Currently have the OG ZX7 but I’m pretty sure I’ll be buying a set of these. I swore I’d never play blades again but the looks of these new Z Forged, and the fact my handicap is as low as it’s ever been, and we’ll, you know how it goes.
Last blades I played before the original ZF were the 965 in a 765 combo. I loved those clubs – probably my all time favourites, only reason I changed was to go to graphite shafts.
Think I’ll go 5 – PW but keep the ZX7 as a back up set and swap out the long irons if I can’t get on with them

Yeah still pretty much loving these heads. Was trying to think of I have anything to report beyond that. Still stuck in a shaft I’d prefer to change right now but iron game has stayed strong. They’re pretty easy as far as blades go. Ran out the other day to get a quick round in and this is the first Z Forged II shot of the day on #2.

Always hard to know across devices, but if you turn it up I think you can part of what I love about them. They feel pretty great.
So that was a 9i, and yesterday someone asked me what my 9i numbers are like.

I think there was one low spin one in there because there were a few around 7400. I don’t know. I got interrupted. Looks about right though with spin getting a good kick up outdoors. I don’t generate a lot of spin with this setup indoors but have had no issues on course. And I’ve played some tough greens with them.
They continue to be pretty easy to control flights on when I’m not in the way of it and I’ve just really enjoyed them.

That’s a pretty good looking wedge. I like that they took a bit of angle out of the toe on the ZX and Z Forged lines this year.
