When you think of Sunday bags, most get the vision of a pencil style or less rigid bag that is designed to hold a handful of clubs for a quick round or par 3 course. The brand Sunday Golf has launched a pretty wide array of products that range from carrying 6 clubs up to about 10. That is until the Sunday Golf Ryder 23 dropped and features a 5-Way divider that holds the entire set you are bringing.

Weighing in at just under 5 lbs, the Sunday Golf 23 bag is what you would expect out of a stand bag. It has legs, it has pockets, and features full way dividers to keep the tangles from happening. Before diving into the tech details that make it fairly unique, let us first discuss the aesthetics.
Upon opening the box, the first thing you will notice is that the bag stands up on its own extremely well. One of our biggest pet peeves regarding golf bags, both with legs and without, is the lean or sag where they just fall over. With the price of golf clubs currently, nobody wants to see their gear hit the pavement and the Sunday Golf Ryder 23 stands both empty and filled.

From there the material combinations are fairly unique, but not mentioned much on the website. A blend of your typical material combined with highlights that feel extremely weather resistant. Sunday Golf talks about premium quality materials without mention of more, but instead of taking their word for it, we can confirm, at least on the surface, it feels premium. The zippers throughout are listed as water resistant and while I think their zipper pulls could use some attention to detail, overall it’s a nice and smooth experience.
When it comes to pockets, there are a lot and some of them are really versatile. Rather than go through each one, this graphic above really shows where they are and what they were designed for. The rangefinder pocket is well thought out and holds nearly ever device we threw at it, and while the apparel pocket is a bit tight for full rain gear, it held a full outfit. We can’t leave the pocket discussion without at least mentioning the one called “Smell-Proof”. It’s lined, but being honest, there was little chance we were putting that smell proof idea to the test.

The strap system for carrying is well designed. It is a double strap that is self adjusting and works really well for comfort while on the back. Some may want a bit more padding in the shoulder area, but there was no discomfort during testing.
The legs fold on command and did a decent job of holding up. No bowing at all and when we packed them full, there wasn’t that buckle moment where the legs start to slide the opposite way like a cheerleader getting ready to do a split.

An area of excellence for the Sunday Golf Ryder 23 is something simple but overlooked when bag hunting. Everything fit. There was no reason to move stuff from here or there. The valuables pouch was deep enough for a wallet, keys and cell phone. The cooler worked as described and better than a number of others on actually keeping something cold. In a nutshell, the bag was admiral in the fact that it functioned as or better than expected.
There are some minor areas of thought for some golfers, and genuinely we are nit picking here because overall this is a solid offering. The Sunday Golf Ryder 23 handle on the front of the 5-Way top is rather small. For those with larger hands, be prepared to grab from the main handle nearly every time. One other area that stood out to us is the pad that rests on the back during carrying. While many have gone to great lengths to improve on that design, this one is fairly standard.
With those out of the way, a couple of things we need to highlight that are not found in every bag. Pass through strap for the cart is in place, and works well. The ball pocket is deep and holds plenty. The 5-Way top worked extremely well and caused no tangling of grips or shafts.

All in, the Sunday Golf Ryder 23 is a brand new option that golfers should be aware of. Don’t be the golfer that chooses your bag solely based on color. The innovation in this space is real. The Ryder 23 is available in five different color options and has a price tag of $259.99, but at the time of this writing, is on sale for $229.99.

I was actually considering posting a thread on this bag last night asking for feedback. Impeccable timing. I love the minimalist look of Sunday Bags and this full size stand bag has my attention. That toasted almond color is so good.
That was not at all what I was expecting. It looks very nice – I almost want to say like a regular bag, and weighing in at 5 pounds it seems like it is just “most of” a regular bag. If the Ping Hoofer weights 5.5 pounds is it just a bit thinner than that?
I assume you’re not with it right now but could we get a size comparison between that and a traditional stand bag? This is the first one that really looks like a good alternative if you’re going to a par 3 course or to top golf or something.

It’s not really smaller than a traditional stand bag. Similar size to the Hyperlite Zero and ZTF.
Seems well thought out, and the price is decent when you compare to others out there. I think I like the Toasted Almond or Heather Gray colors best. My only complaint would just be that the aesthetics are a little boring. Others might see the same thing and like the understated look.
I’ve got their smaller Sunday bag that fits 6/7 clubs and have been happy with it. This looks a continuation of a solid offering.
Great product write up. Seems like we are seeing a lot of new bags hitting the market.
Nice write up. I think it’s a slick looking bag, really like the heather grey.
A cooler pocket that works is a great feature. Appreciate the review, JB.
Even in the middle of an experience JB still workin hard. Intriguing products for sure.

I agree with this statement. Most of the ones on the side, just don’t work.
Great write up @JB
Looks nice. Their other bags seem to target a particular golfer (minimalist who carry less than 14). I see this release getting lost amongst literally everyone else’s 5 pound 14 club carry bags.
Sounds like a very solid offering. I have one of their 10 club El Camino bags and it is quite good for what it is
Ohhh. That Frosted Almost colorway is ?. Love the frosted pocket as well.
Definitely dig the simpler design. I don’t think I’d carry less than a full set, but a smaller bag with room for essentials that looks good is a win for me. Certainly worth a look.
Nice review @JB i really like the small Sunday golf bags
assumed this was going to be another Sunday bag so I’m glad I checked it out anyway. This is the first Sunday Golf bag I’ve been intrigued by. I love having a bunch of pockets although I don’t care about a cooler pocket at this time. The overall options and design of the Ryder 23 seem pretty solid.
Good write up @JB But candidly I don’t get the carry bag thing. As one that does carry and very often. Weight is the most important thing. This bag coming in at 4.9 pounds is twice the weight of the bags true carriers are using. If you are a walker but part of the push cart mafia then weight is meaningless. So you can roll around a bag with many features. This bag would be solid for that purpose.
Ok, so this one actually intrigues me.

I have the Sunday Loma bag in heather grey…seriously considering the Ryder 23 bag now in that same color.
Thanks for the review. I have a Mizuno scratch sac that is over 15 years old. I bought it for $79 and in his been literally been on 1000 trips to the range.
It is getting frayed and I have been shocked at how hard it has been to replace it. It has the perfect layout design, simple, but functional. A big pocket and a small pocket for tees and it’s perfect for carrying 6 to 10 clubs.
It feels like everybody is trying to over complicate sundae bags now. With the stands that are fragile and barely work. Trying to make the top opening to rigid. Designs without functionality in mind. I just returned a Titleist bag didn’t have a small pocket to put tees in. Why would you want to dump teeth into a large pocket and fish them out?
I don’t get why this segment is so hard.
I like it. Seems like it has lots of great features and fits alot
I really like this bag. It has everything I would want in a bag..
This bag looks really good. Minimalistic but still big enough to get the job done.
