As an admitted premium putter enthusiast (read: addict), it has been an interesting year and a half within the boutique portion of the segment. A big reason for that centered around Logan Olson. Logan burst onto the scene and immediately began to flourish, showing a skill with CAD that was on a different level than many were used to, specifically without having to spend months and months on waiting lists to try and grab a putter.
No, Logan Olson was the opposite of that, he immediately began pumping out some of the most impressive works of putting art we had seen in some time. Whether it was form, fit, finish, or function, there were options from exotic to mild and though they weren’t cheap, they were accessible.
And then, he went silent.
It was at that time that whispers began, and last year there was an eventual re-emergence where Logan was suddenly working with some of the biggest names in professional golf, both PGA and LPGA Tours. There was also perhaps one of the worst kept secrets in golf at the time, that he was somehow working with or side-by-side with TaylorMade Golf.
Well, today, the not-so-secret news is official, and Logan Olson is officially aligned with TaylorMade.
TaylorMade Golf + Logan Olson
While the above may read a little cynical, I assure you that most of it is tongue in cheek, though this admittedly feels similar to a pair of people whom everyone knows has been a thing for months becoming “Facebook Official”.
No matter how you look at it, or react to it, this is clearly a dream come true for the 27-year-old as he now comes officially into the TaylorMade fold, and TMaG gets what they believe to be a “generational talent” as it pertains to premium putter craftsmanship. It also clearly marks a new direction for TaylorMade who for many years have struggled to make a foothold in the milled putter segment.
Interestingly, all signs point towards this partnership being one which keeps Olson within his known realm of premium bespoke and small batch putter designs. So, no, the plan is not to start slapping his name on everything under the TaylorMade putter umbrella, nor is it for the company to stop producing the shapes and designs which they have become known for.
TaylorMade Golf’s VP of Product Creation, Brian Bazzel, had this to say about the partnership:
“It’s not every day you stumble upon someone like Logan. His ability to merge creativity with such a technical process is nothing short of remarkable. Whether you’re a professional on Tour, someone who plays the game for the sheer love of it, or even a collector with a keen eye for finely crafted putters, Logan’s creations embody a level of craftsmanship that resonates with golfers from all abilities.”
This is very much an “in addition to” marriage of Logan Olson’s mind and creativity with the manufacturing might of TaylorMade Golf. Not only will he remain the principal designer on all Olson products, but it will allow him an even bigger presence on all professional tours beginning with a full “Tour Matrix” of blade and mid-mallet designs.
The man of the hour himself, Logan Olson, had this statement:
“I’ve always appreciated that TaylorMade is a brand that isn’t afraid to take risks and try something different. I feel a resemblance to that in my own work and thoughts on approaching new projects. Being able to utilize the feedback of the best players in the world helps push design criteria to a completely different place.”
What Comes Next?
While all of that is exciting, the obvious question most of you reading will have is, “when?”, and rightfully so. Well, TaylorMade nor Logan Olson are going to keep you waiting long, as the “Olson Craft Batch No. 3” will be hitting on December 5th. Stay tuned to THP for all the info on that when the date arrives.
What do you think? Is it a match made in heaven? Does it move the needle?

Interesting. He’s a talented guy, and exhibits incredible craftsmanship, and I’ll be curious to see if his work ends up in more TM staffers bags.
Taylormade is searching for their Toulon or Scotty. For a while, Olson putters were among some of the best I’ve seen. I’ll be curious to see how he fits in with Taylormade, since they seem to push all things Spider.

Mentioned it a little in the article, but this is a key part of the relationship becoming official, open access to the TM Tour Staff.
Based on how many made for xxx player Proto’s we saw last year, id bet there is a solid adoption out there.
But my question remains, what’s the end game? You’re not toppling SC, so what’s the true goal? Or is it just to say you have to his sort of offering in the lineup?

Talked about it in the piece, but the Spider (a Mount Rushmore putter shape, and a Toulon one at that) won’t be changed as far as prevalence in the lineup. The Olson line will be in addition to, with Logan retaining control of it.
Beautiful work. I’m curious to see what the end result of the partnership is. It doesn’t feel like they are going to toe the mass production line like they did with Kia Ma.
I wonder if his addition is to bring more style than substance to the putter lineup. I have never seen one in the flesh and really wonder how many are really in play or just on display/collector additions. Will though be fun seeing how this rolls out.

I believe you’re correct, I think we will see only small batch drops, and some more super limited options if I had to guess.
I do also think we see a lot of trinkets though.
Wishing the best for Logan Olson and that he and Taylormade achieve whatever ambitions they might have through this partnership.
It is often hard to go from being a craftsman/creator/entrepreneur to being a part of a big company. He will likely benefit from access to capital, people, and other resources. Taylormade will benefit from the limited boutique nature and cachet that he has built.
Curious to see what comes out of this collaboration.

I can get behind that idea. I think he’s going to bring a fanbase along with him that will be willing to jump in. I do wonder how the branding will work. Will his fans accept a dual branding design (if that’s the direction they go)?

As a boutique putter nerd from way way back, who owned and still owns WAY too many, including a couple Olson’s, hahaha…
He disrupted this segment like none I’ve ever seen before, because not only were they gorgeous and a level of machining skill with CAD we had t really seen, but he made a LOT of putters for a one man shop.
But then, he went silent, and alienated a lot of folks in that community.
So, the potential is there, but I’m curious how TM handles, helps, or hinders his name long term.
Fun fact people forget, he’s got a Tour win, as Scheffler won almost 12 months ago with an Olson in the bag.

That was one of my thoughts when reading the article – it speaks of “Scotty Cameron for Titleist”. If that truly is the end goal, or something close to it, good luck. A wise man once told me “if you’re taking shots at giants, you best not miss”. Regardless of what lofty expectations he, or this relationship may be bringing to the table, I can see similarities between the two, be it collectibility of 1-off models, the possibility of “tour only” putters, etc, and it could be good for TM, but they do face a tall task in getting people to pay attention, and to care.
i like this move and will be excited to see what the future holds with this partnership. I’ve never owned an Olson putter but have always wanted to pull the trigger on one

I’ve been hyper critical of companies when it comes to the milled/boutique segment. Toulon and Callaway for example lost sight of things there and became broader than I think intended. Others have struggled mightily with it as well, look at Bettinardi and Mizuno, Mills and Mizuno, and the list goes on.
For some reason, I could see this taking hold a bit better.
Logan has been making putters for their staffers for about a year now. He makes nice stuff. Interestingly. All the tour pros put a Logan in the bag. Then go back to a spider. Lol

I will have to be convinced a little bit on point #2, only for what I see locally, and the TM marketing I am exposed to. Most of the people I know playing TM bought off the rack drivers, fairways, or irons, and convincing them they need a boutique milled putter is gonna be a tough sell, and I’m gonna level with you, if I see a “Daily 9” brought to you by Truly Hard Seltzer, nicotine pouches, and boutique milled putters? Go ahead and fire up that motorcycle, the ramp over the shark tank beckons.

Off the rack everything sells more, so that’s a bit of a moot point.
Also, what a success is numbers wise has to be put into perspectives, they’re not seeking to be a top selling putter here, hell they’re not going to make anywhere near enough to do that even if they all sold. It’s about a foothold and presence, which with Olson’s talent and TM’s Tour access, this is the best shot someone not named Toulon has given it in a long time.
I didn’t say they’d be Cameron level. I said taking hold.
Hmm.. not really a TM fan or interested in their side of this. I might be inclined to look at what they offer if Olson has a hand in it though. I wonder what’s going to be released… and if it’ll be available in lefty. And will it be less $$$$ than a Toulon?

Last section mentions what’s coming, haha
Also, he’s not designing TM’s putters, he’s designing Olson putters, under the TM umbrella. The spiders and such are going nowhere, nor are they coming into his offerings.
Such an interesting thing. I followed his work for a but then he was just gone. Kind of forgot about till Scotty was playing one for a hot second.

First win of his historic 2024 season was with an Olson.
Scotty, Nelly, Fleetwood, and a few others have had Olsons. Rory has even used one in some practice rounds. None have stuck. To me this collab is odd.. I understand and dont understand why Olson would do this at the same time. My guess is he got a good check up front. But this seems like it could harm his super high end limited brand image..

Interesting. But I honestly thought this had happened a while ago and that’s why Scottie was using an Olson before switching to the Spider.

She’s done a ton of testing with him and working with him. I believe she’s for 2-3 Proto’s and won the Drive On with one. But, she used the spider tour x most of the year and for all but one of her wins I believe.
I for one just love boutique putters, i even occasionally try them (rare). I look forward to the Dec 5 release (my Dad’s birthday), but I’m still not clear on his this works, though Olsen putters are works of art.

The brilliance of it for Olson is that it changes little. His releases and drops are still his. His designs are still his. He just now has access to the TM side of information/data/etc as well as unfettered Tour access.
I think that’s why this works.

I’d like to see this be a successful partnership, it could open the door to others/other brands. Maybe make some ever so slightly more affordable. I wonder what TM gets other than a name known for exotic putters though. That’s one reason i want to see tomorrow’s release.

Boutique will still be limited, so prices will be what they are.
If anything, they’re going to get pricier.

I think that’s all TM wants, is a real foot in the door in milled putters. They ruined Kia Ma, and the TP release was poorly received, so this lets them have someone in that space with extreme talent, but keep their putter division focused on what they’re good at (Spider and I guess the Truss shenanigans) so as not to have to divide resources as much.

I hope the partnership works for both sides.
