While TaylorMade recently unveiled a new partnership with Logan Olson that will satisfy the company’s fans looking for ultra-premium milled putters, the bread and butter of their line continues to lie in the Spider. It’s an iconic putter that has had success both on worldwide Tours and on store shelves. Regardless of where it’s been at in its evolution, the Spider series has always been about delivering maximum forgiveness, stability, and a pure roll time after time. Last year, TaylorMade delivered their Spider Tour line to the market, offering five different shapes to match the fitting needs of as many players as possible.

While they aren’t really delivering an all-new concept or tweak on the Spider in 2025, TaylorMade is bringing more options to the table. Specifically, they are introducing the Spider Tour Black series, adding a black PVD finish to three of the series’ most popular shapes. Along with classic TaylorMade copper accents, this new look is sure to be enticing. The True Path Alignment technology seems to just pop against the black PVD background, making it easier than ever to start your putts on the right line. Let’s take a look at each shape that will be available in this new finish and how the technology is designed to help you make more putts.
The Shapes – TaylorMade Spider Tour Black

2024 saw the reintroduction of the original Spider Tour shape, so it’s only fitting we start with the Spider Tour Black. There’s a reason this putter is considered legendary. With an MOI rating over 5700 it’s incredibly stable and forgiving to off-center strikes, both in terms of distance control and dispersion. When coupled with TaylorMade’s TPU Pure Roll Insert, it also provides consistent forward roll, mitigating the chances of your putts skipping offline early.

The Spider Tour’s Jet Engine TSS weight ports have an even more dramatic look with the copper surrounded by the black PVD. The Spider Tour Black will be available with a Slant Neck and 29 degrees of toe hang in 33”, 34”, and 35” lengths. In addition, there will be a face-balanced double-bend option at 35” that also incorporates counterbalance.

Like Rory McIlroy, those players that crave the Spider’s stability but want a slightly more compact package will again be able to lean on the Spider Tour X platform. The Spider Tour X Black is essentially the same putter in a black PVD finish. Along with subtle differences that make the shape flow smoother to the eyes, the prominent “ears” are lopped off, giving the Spider Tour X Black a smaller footprint at address. This change in shape does require a repositioning of the TSS weights to the sole, so at some level there is a tradeoff in stability, but you can still expect high levels of forgiveness from this streamlined option.

Pictures illustrate well how TaylorMade was able to precisely place mass on the Spider Tour X Black through their Steel Wireframe and Thin Wall Undercut Construction technologies. By removing weight from areas around the putter, the company can position it far back in the head to ensure the highest MOI possible. The Spider Tour X Black will be available in two builds. The L neck (#1) has 21 degrees of toe hang at 33”, 34”, and 35”. The Small Slant (#3) will be available in 34” and 35” with 30 degrees of toe hang.

Finally, for those players that just can’t get enough Spider in their lives, the Spider Tour S Black will be an option. This isn’t exactly a different shape, as it’s based off the original Spider Tour, but it is unique in its size. It’s 3mm longer from front to back and 8mm wider from side to side, dramatically increasing the MOI to a whopping 6063. There’s no denying the Tour S Black will be the most forgiving and steady option in the Tour Black line but will require a golfer that doesn’t mind an oversized head and a non-conventional build. The Spider Tour S Black will be offered in two options. First, a face-balanced, double-bend with counterbalancing at 38”, and second as the Tour S Black Long, a center-shafted, face balanced putter at 46” in length.
The Details
More information and custom ordering options are available at taylormadegolf.com. To further enhance the black PVD heads, each Spider Tour Black putter will have a KBS CT Putter Black PVD Stepless shaft as the custom option, with badging that fits perfectly with the dark copper accents. A Spider branded SuperStroke Pistol GT 1.0 Black will be the stock grip option. What are your thoughts on the Spider Tour line? Join the discussion with thousands of golfers on the THP Forums.
Very nice. I must say I like the black and copper badge more than the grey Spyder I currently have. It would putt no different but kudos for offering more finish options to the masses.

I thought the copper accents looked great too, especially on the Tour and Tour S.
True Path Alignment looks soooooo good on these black finishes
those are definitely pretty. Love the copper accents

Sneaky one of the best alignment systems I’ve used on a putter…and it helps big time when it has such a drastic difference to the rest of the finish on the head
These look good…simple, but good
I am not in the market for a new putter but man I do like Spider putters and this one is looking really good.
The copper does an awesome job breaking up the tuxedo vibes.

I dig it. Would feel fancy rolling one. Like a gentleman.
Not a huge fan of the black/white look but I’m sure it’ll appeal to quite a few folks. Never have been able to get along with these even though I really wanted to for a very long time. More options is always great!
It’s interesting seeing the top line photos online because the white REALLY blends in with the background. Makes me wonder just how different these will look at address on a putting green.
I assume it’ll be much the same that we have seen in the past and support that connection to the ball.

That’s a good point. The rest of the putter may just melt into the background.
@Hawk can you share much about face tech on these, or is it simply not being celebrated in the literature they provide?
I’ve always been intrigued by TaylorMade’s attention to inserts.
Very nice looking set. Dear Santa…

I didn’t devote a ton of time to it, since it’s really the same tech they’ve had out for the last year. In reality, the entire package is the same as last year, minus the finish.
It’s what they call White TPU Pure Roll Insert. It’s Surlyn/Aluminum blend for softness with responsiveness and has angled grooves so that it can deliver a quicker forward roll. It’s been pretty popular across the board for them.
Its release time!!! Enjoyed the write up here @Hawk
The Spider putter is one that I have never been able to get along with. I’ve tried it multiple times, but is much larger than I prefer. The copper accents do wonders for the aesthetics for me.

Bit large for my personal preference as well, but the Tour X Black definitely streamlines that and is a shape I could be comfortable with these days.

I see that now…the initial graphic was playing tricks on my mind. Interesting to see how that PVD finish holds up.

Hopefully people can avoid putter abuse and it’ll be just fine ?
Nicely written @Hawk I know it’s not a new shape or a new insert, but the PVD finish I bet will look really good in person. The copper isn’t my favorite, but I actually do like it on the Spider Tour weight port. Make it look like a jet engine. Previously being a Spider Tour Red user, these releases always grab my attention long enough to at least check in and see what’s going on.

That’s what I thought. Copper in that weight port looks really cool.

it sure does. Also I find it kind of fun that the last spider proto release was the all black head, and now this one is black with the true path, which obviously really contrasts to the black PVD.
I think the alignment aid will look better in person, but I am not loving it at first glance. I will always be a fan of this shape though.
I want one
My next ex putter
Two long birdies with this, definitely way better for me over the JB AI
Best putter ever for me. Making long putts with this. 3 straight rounds with 2 or more birds
It sure why, but these feel cheap to me..

This will no sense but I feel like it’s the orange bottom
So I went to my local GG to see the all the new putters they recently got, and somehow ended up walking out with a new Spider Tour Black T7 – CB putter (the 35 in. counterbalanced one). This might end up as a failed experiment, but I really, really like how this feels in my hands as well as how well I was rolling it in the store. The grip is absolutely fantastic, and that coupled with the weight really helps keeps me from being too handsy with my putting stroke. For some reason the shorter 35 in. length (compared to most counterbalanced putters) always just works really well for me. The fact that it looks so darn cool at address is just the cherry on top.
I’ll follow up once I get this beauty out on the course, but so far after a bunch of putts on my putting mat at home I’m pretty happy with it!
2 birdies today, this putter rocks. That’s 4 straight rounds with two or more
