Earlier this year, Bridgestone Golf unveiled OTTO to the world. If you missed that original press release, you can find it here. The gist of it is fairly simple, an autonomous ball fitting device that the company can assist golfers in finding the right golf ball with a few swings. During the launch, Dan Murphy, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf added this.
“The genesis of the idea for OTTO was to bridge the gap between entertainment golf and on course golf,” said Dan Murphy, President and CEO, Bridgestone Golf. “Currently there are over 25 million golfers who participate in non-traditional golf, meaning at off course entertainment venues or on simulators. As the leader in golf ball fitting, we feel a responsibility to make sure players continue to be excited and engaged while also having the ability to choose gear that best suits their game. With OTTO’S innovative design we’ve developed a great way to do it.”
Having not seen one in the wild as of yet since they are just being built, we asked Bridgestone Golf for a preview and Adam Rehberg, Marketing Manager of Bridgestone Golf, packed one of the “robots” up and brought it to the THP Tech Studio for this episode of TESTED!
Three swings and the robot is even checking for slow play? Sign us up.
With Bridgestone OTTO hitting locations soon, we ask the question, have you had a golf ball fitting? Would you give this one a try if it was at a retail store or golf course you visited?
For more information on OTTO including finding out where you can test one out for yourself, check out their website at www.bridgestonegolf.com. They will be updating their ball fitting portion soon with locations where you can give the autonomous ball fitter a try.

Great video and really cool device.
Based upon the Bridgestone fitting tool:

I remember this from the livestream, I still think it’s a lot of fun.
“Swinging with dinner belly” – is that the excuse for next round? I think it is!
Thank you Adam and Dan for this!
Liked the hurry up and hit the ball function ?, seems like a great idea for the industry in general. Does Bridgestone recommend testing these on the course like other manufacturers as heavily or do they see this a last step needed sort of tool.

They have always recommended course testing to us, and feel pretty confident based on having a spinner and slightly less spin version of X and R if that makes sense
This was awesome. Will be interesting to see where the OTTO’s end up from a regional perspective.
Really cool tech for sure. With only 4-5 of those out in the wild, it may be tough for golfers to find one that they can get a fitting on, but I also get that finances probably dictate only being able to manufacture a few at a time.
Kinda awesome that you got to test one of the 3 OTTOs that Bridgestone has!
I only ever get fit virtually for the Bridgestone E12 Contact (I think because my current ball isn’t a premium level ball).
Tour B RXS is what I get fit into online if I lie and say I am using a premium ball.
Would love to find an OTTO up here, and give it a try and see what it recommends!
Great video Dan and Adam. Hope I am lucky enough to give OTTO a go someday. I have done many ball fittings over the years and am always fit into the RX.
OTTOnomous ? :ROFLMAO: Is that a mevo its using?

I’ve swung with a burrito belly before. The ball went across 10 lanes of traffic hahaha

Interesting. Do we know how many of these they expect to have eventually? 3 is a pretty small number
Can’t believe no one’s done this yet.
That’s pretty cool!

I think ideally the company would like to have dozens of them out there in the future.
Very cool system. I have always liked that Bstone focus’s hard on ball fittings.
This is very cool. Neat how the tech is coming witg this. Would live to try this if i can find one near me sometime.
That is a cool system and i would try that if i saw it somewhere. That simplifies the ball fitting process and is a fun way to learn what you should use when there are so many choices.
OK, this is way more neat than I expected.
Bridgestone fitting tool, and live fitting at demo days, have always recommended I play the RX. I don’t see OTTO changing that, but would still be fun to give it a go.
Pretty cool. Would the OTTO recommendation change much if you were hitting a range ball or a Bridgestone XS to get its recommended ball?
Really cool tech, hopefully get a chance in the future to try one out. This might be a really dumb question, but would there be any benefit to expanding the fitting beyond just the driver? With all the different ways you can configure all your clubs, just wonder if there’d be a benefit in a deeper dive through some more of your bag.

Not in my opinion as it is designed to work with speed.
There could be some subtle variances though.

Their regular fittings are expanded beyond that to include irons and green side.
With something like this, let’s say placed in a store or range, it could cause some issues with someone sitting there for 20 swings.
I’m very curious to see how this pans out. Bridgestone has so much ball data they should be able to make a good recommendation. I’d love see one at the local range but I fear people would be hogging it all the time trying to get numbers.
Finally getting to sit down and give this a watch. Looking forward to seeing OTTO in action.
Nice to finally see Otto in action!
I wish you could do them for more than just driver but I get why you can’t given the standard deviation aspect and what’s too much or too little spin

At least it’s done with the most violent swing so people should get some decent data out of it.

I know driver has the most speed, but in terms of transition, I think my irons might have the most “violent” move “granted it’s not at the top of my swing”
