Last month Cobra Golf dropped their latest hybrid and it was sort of a surprise release timing wise. The Cobra KING Tec Hybrid immediately looked high tech (no pun intended), but how would it perform?
Today we are in the THP Tech Studio for another episode of TESTED! Where you see the swings and get a full breakdown of the data on the new Cobra KING Tec Hybrid. The video below starts off with some technology talk, and we walk you through overhead what is going on with this new hybrid. Then we hop into the hitting bay for some swings and finally, we breakdown the information that the Foresight GCQuad presented and give you some final thoughts.
This episode is full of information and data. Can this hybrid unseat some of their previous offerings with rails? How does the face angle sit and is it prone to hooking? We cover all of it in this review of the Cobra KING Tec hybrid that is just now hitting stores.
After watching the THP TV video above, what are your initial thoughts on this piece of equipment?
For more information on this specific club or anything else from the complete lineup from Cobra Golf, check out their website at www.cobragolf.com.
I know these are “old old Tec” at this point but wanted to shout out a couple great shots I hit with these last night. First one was into the wind off the left and the second one was off the right and slightly down. First one I hit pretty straight and the wind worked it back toward the hole, and the second one I drew and it rode the wind back towards the middle of the green. I’ve been tinkering with replacing the Tec 5h but the 3h and 4h are still performing solidly.

Still in the bag! Two of them!
So with the talk of moveable weights around these parts recently I mixed up the bag a little bit. I lofted the 3H all the way to 20.5 and the 2h to 18.5, pulling my RadSpeed 4H from the bag. I liked the idea of a slightly closed face and more weight in the heel. Only one shot so far but it was with the 3H in a position where I would normally pull 4. The distance was about what was to be expected. I’m excited to see where this goes this summer and it’s so neat to have that much adjustability in these clubs.
Looking to possibly cut down the 2h to 3H length and was curious to the head weights. Figured I would leave these here if anyone needed the data.

I never realized the larger footprint of the 2H compared to the 3H, it’s more swept back to my eye

Yes.
I’ve paired this with the UST LINQ hybrid shaft 100F5 with the 3H set at 18 degrees. It is a monster. It has become a safe 230 off the tee and feels so good.
I’ve hit at least 2000 shots with this club. I still love it. Had a scare with the change in sound. It became high pitched. I thought it was going to crack or had cracked. A weight had loosened in the toe and one of the washer/seals under it didn’t completely go into the spot. Its all well now. I was starting to kinda panic and fearing I was going to have to order a 2023
After a solid three year run I think it’s time to test a different shaft in this for next year. Any recommendations from folks?

I have a nippon ghost in mine and love it
The 2H king tec (not latest version) has been in my bag a long while and is a true crutch for me on tight/short par4’s. I am going to replace it in ‘24, but hope to replace it with something similar. Having a hybrid that i can trust off the tee is invaluable to me and didn’t happen until the king tec came along. I just used to hook hybrids SO BAD!

I love the Super Hybrid as the replacement for a tee club, but the King Tec remains my crutch from the fairway. More loft I guess makes it more simple.
So this club came out of the bag when the second driver went in. I brought it out for an off-season nine and I recalled all the reasons I enjoy this club. Just seems to be point and shoot for me at times.
Flat laid the smack down with this in the simulator today. 3H at 18 degrees produced a smooth swing 224 yard carry that would stop into any green. Punch shots 200 carry at only 80 feet high. (same as I was able to hit the 2H) Full swing with the 2H was producing 235 carry.
Is this club good for 18 hcp? Meaning forgiving. I am pretty solid with hybrids and only looking at the shorter 5 Hybrid. Thanks.

I was around a 13/14 when I got my King Tec. Biggest benefit to me was the adjustability because adjusting the club was easier than adjusting my swing.
I find it pretty forgiving as the adjustability let’s me deliver pretty well. That said, I think it takes a little bit of speed to unlock. Not a lot, but if you are struggling to knock your driver out past 200/215 it might not be the best for you.
I believe @Wonger is around your handicap level and plays the newer King Tec hybrids

Honestly at the 5 hybrid I think there is a lot of speed in that head and the loft you should be able to elevate pretty well.
Any chance you have to hit them? Or at least the newer version if you are eying the prior model which this thread talks about?

I am right around your handicap and play both the 3 and 5 king tec hybrid. I love them for the forgiveness and adjustability. Being able to move weights around the head is awesome to adjust the club for a ball flight that suits you. I will use the 5hy for long approaches 190-200ish.

So you have a RadSpeed? What are you hoping the king Tec will do that that one doesn’t?

A little more distance and maybe accuracy with ability to adjust. It needs to glide through light rough fairly well. Also I just gave the RadSpeed to my brother so have to buy.

That’s awesome. I should be able to get the 5 high enough. I did hit a TSR1 titliest quite far I’m just leary of dispersion with super lightweight clubs. Plus the king tec has a lot of set up options.

I’m a 20 hcp, and the King Tec 4h has been my absolute favourite club this year. It’s straight, handles any lie like a champ and I’d take it to a prom if I ever needed to attend.
Simply said, the adjustability makes it really easy to adjust to your swing. I have the heavy weights at the back and toe.

Curious is toe weighting more fade bias and heel more draw? Or the opposite? I never adjusted screws on a driver just go straight.
That’s correct. Typically adding weight in the toe makes a club more fade biased. The added weight in the toe slows down how quickly the face can close.
That said, some golfers react differently and subsequently swing it differently to different weight locations so it’s not a 100% rule, but a really good chance.

Correct. I did that to counter my tendency to hook hybrids. The heavy weight in the back makes it a bit more stable too, so that also counters the tendency to close the face quickly.
Just a bump for a great club. Thinking about having a little fun with a build on it.
@jtubb17 let me test his King Tec 3 & 4 hybrids, and I was impressed. They’re easy to hit, offer increased distance without much effort, and greatly improved my game. Today, using only the hybrids off the tee on a challenging course, I improved by 8 shots.

Don’t give him any ideas. I let him use my 3 & 4 again today. He dropped a ball on the tee box of a narrow downhill par 4. No tee, walks up and hits an absolute laser right down the middle. 269 yards!

Awesome. So the 12g weight added should negate the weight.
The 19 seems to have ran its race.
“Everything must have an end. Like an ocean to a shore, like a river to the sea. Take it calmly and serene, tis the famous final scene.”
Today retirement round for old faithful. It sounds funny now. Its had probably 2000 shots hit with it over the last several seasons including sim and range sessions. It doesn’t launch or carry like it used to. The 4H is giving me more. This club will find a home in retirement because of its sister clubs the Cobra King Tour MIM.

I ended up picking up an extra weight from Cobra. If you need one, pending what size you need, I should have one. Pretty sure I have a 10, 12, and 14 g weight kicking around.

This remains as good/nice as anything on the market. I have hit most clubs and can say this with full confidence.
