With this strike pattern I’m not surprised:
Honestly after the better part of 4 rounds on 2 courses, so far, and only 2 really bad (unplayable) shots, I am realizing what you all already have, the club works. I will know more about distance in the coming weeks when I play my regular course, but yea, honestly it’s seeming more and more like if you just don’t think and just swing the club (again, one that you have been fit for), it’s gonna be playable and what’s not to like about that!
Oh, and also, for me little to no leakage to the right, I feel like I can do more aim wise when I don’t have to worry about a fade or even something more than a fade.
Yes would love to hear feedback on this as well. I didn’t love the sound/feel of the GT line compared to TSR. It was more muted. Is GTS similar to GT?
I only have experience the GT 280, I feel the GTS clubs (at least my 3) all, ALL feel smother/softer. That said, I found (oddly) some strikes by others were louder than my strikes, quite possibly as I was observing other players vice myself, and also where I was standing – oh and maybe because they ALL hit the ball so fucking hard (with jaw dropping results) by the way.
How much more unclear, but yes more, I now am hitting it a bit lower, much straighter and the forward weight has added a bit of a boost.
Cons first – None, literally none.
Pros, distance, less movement from where I aim (draw/fade), feel on well struck balls incredible, playablilty on less than perfect shots – remarkable
Also, hands down best looking woods at address on the market, every year.

So I have now had a bit more time to swing the clubs, and I can say they do everything that I expect and more, I will work on more details as I play my home course more and more (usually 2-3 times a week) plus some garage sim time.
But yesterday, I had the distinct honor to tee it up at Pinehurst #5 with @SVonhof, his wife Kathy (who should join as I think she’d fit in here very nicely – and I may have suggested that to her as well – sorry Scott) and @JHolt who ironically he and I hail from within about 15 miles of each though he’s slightly older – so we got to swap a few stories.
Anyway, the clubs – Driver – I had 2 wild hooks so far left they have landed 1 or 2 states west of NC. Also, wet (we played the 3 holes in some decent rain), the last tee was a dribbler off the tee – my fault not the club – but it still made the fairway (HAHAHA), so I hit all but 2 fairways, off the tee and the fairway woods other than 1 time where I peaked – and got ahead of myself topping the ball, they too performed. As an older distance challenged player, I think I am bit longer off the tee (at Dormie @JB was not super far ahead of me, but he was ahead). Now @Lord Tox @Raiderboost @Awkward silence and Josh Talge they are mad bombers – I would need to move up a timezone (maybe 3) to be where they hit balls. And fairways, I need to hit them a lot more than the other fellows – I think Raider hit maybe 2 or 3 in the our 2 rounds together, I likely hit 203 in the first 3-4 holes. They deliver as advertised, long straight and damn fun to hit.
Yeah I think I hit the fairways woods about 4 times on the long par 5’s. I did hit them pretty good though. You striped the FW’s for the most part though.

Curious of your thoughts on the GTS lineup so far with all around performance? Pro’s, Con’s and of course hope everyone is enjoying asking the Titleist crew questions

Cons- this didn’t come out sooner.
Pros- quite a few. Retention of ball speed and spin on mishits is a big one. I had several that I hit off the toe that still flew and did not overcorrect because of too much gear effect. Often times they flew almost as well as a well stuck drive. It was really impressive.
Have a couple shafts in mind and kinda want to blind order the GTS4 after following this one.
Won’t be able to swing for quite a while yet, but the excitement from the follow is real :drinks:

I’d wait and go get fit. The adjustability of the driver can change things drastically. @Awkward silence start out hitting a bit of a slice. He noticed the wait in his GTS3 was not in the right setting. It was one toward the heel instead of one towards the toe. Many would thing the wait in the heel would help but he tends to hit it towards the toe so putting the weight there moves it behind the ball and he doesn’t lose as much. It immediately cut the left to right movement down by half.

I want to get in the sim to get some direct comparisons but I know at my fitting my first couple swings I picked up 2-3 mph ball speed from my Max K. The way I was hitting it I sure wouldn’t be surprised if I picked up about 10 yards or so.
That change makes sense and nice to see that they designed the component to actually react to it and ones swing. Some don't do much when changes are made so that is nice to see.

After I get a better feel for it, distance wise, oh who am I kidding – it feels great to swing, looks great in flight (ball not club throwing hahaah), and it swings/works so easily. I have a number of places to use it at home and look forward to it being the bag (along with the rest of the stable of Titleist woods for a long time.

I think I posted that upon the advice of counsel, we moved up to the whites on #3. And it made sense as well, our caddy suggested that the wind was not in our favor. I was still hitting woods into some greens, but it was a bit easier to play. That said, I would have stuck it out for at least 9 holes, if not all 18. I even moved up the reds in the afternoon and on Thursday (late in the round) – age is still undefeated – I think I heard that a number of times over the few days.

Not sure I can, I did play walk up music on #1 – Stones – Start Me Up – live, and proceeded to hit one just left of the Fairway, then another (breakfast ball), and while it too went left, both were straight, lower flight lasers that distance wise were good for me. I corrected that left miss on #2 and then the rest of the round, and honestly well into the afternoon round as well. So, maybe not my best shots but a great whetting of the driver swing appetite for things to come. I was happy to be 15-20 yards behind @JB and @paddypearls most of the rest of the round. Frankly, it was my best golf round of the experience.
what did you have before the 7w?
I had a very poorly selected (not fit for) heaven wood, that was too soft in flex, too light in weight and maybe a couple other things – could not hit it at all. Also, carried a 4hybrid – that was ok, even good, but left a lot to be desired for stopping power – the 7 wood has essentially replaced them both, and I added a GT280 for the extra club – I may shelve it – but if I do, I have no idea to replace it with – and I hit it well enough off the deck – so I have no complaints.
I carry a baggie of Naproxen, but trying to wean off them, and move to Extra Strength Tylenol – and that is just not as potent.

First off thank you for letting us tag along virtually the last couple of days. The results speak for themselves and each of you seem to be dialed in at the top of the bag.
Once things settle down two questions for you
1. How will these clubs change your approach on the tee now?
2. How does this effect gapping through the rest of your bag?
Everyone seemed to be getting some extra distance and tighter dispersion. I’m looking forward to seeing those handicaps drop.
I preface this with the main thought of trust the club – do NOT overthink it, if I can do this, then the answer to 1 is point and shoot, just point and shoot.
As to gapping, my old bag was driver, 3HL, heavenwood, and 4hy. Now it’s Driver, GT 280, 16.5 and 21. I think the gap is better and the minidriver gives me options, I used it only off the deck at Dormie, but there was one hole at Pinehurst #5 where I teed off with it and it was the perfect club and distance. So, gapping seems good – may learn more on that tomorrow (when I play my course). But from a versatility standpoint – it’s certainly better than it was – and the fact that the clubs were fit for me, helps that much more.

I agree, and I did not realize it at the time, but the HW and 4hy are similar distances – for many (I think)? I suspect, I failed to account for that when I built the old bag.

That simple adjustment turned a great driver into the best driver i have ever hit. My miss is a slight high toe. Having the weight in face in the T1 produces slightly less side spin as the weight is there to stabilize. I’m high high or low cuts in command and good distance for me.

Are you seeing any distance gains off the tee with the new GTS?
Absolutely! We all have to temper our excitement for new gear as let’s face it OEMs are up against constraints to conform. The difference here is Titleist took this lineup to a new level using tech and material never seen before. The result for me at least is not just longer but across the face of the driver head more accurate to center line and longer. That fade that slowly falls off the planet ( yes they still do on bad swings) is a now a very playable 250-260 right side fairway or rough shot.
I had the chance to hit the sim for two hours yesterday as it was raining. First swings since the event. It was some of the fastest ball speeds and swing speeds I have ever seen. I hit 107.5 swing speed on one and seeing that ball hit the mid to high fade window my eye likes to see. The woods. Oh the woods. I am addicted to the sound. I had the pleasure to ride with Josh with the marketing team. First off great ball striker and even better stories. I found myself telling him about my experience with the GTS lineup and the word that came out of my mouth the most was SOUND. Somewhere on the back nine I caught myself and was like “man I keep using sound to describe these clubs” Josh responds with “look we could but ear plugs in and cover the look and you would never be able to tell what you hit.” This really hit me. We all have that expected experience after making contact weather that is feel sound or turf interaction. The sound for me is most tied to “feel” and validated by Josh. Anyway on the sim I was hitting the 3 wood and 5 wood just so good. High flying high spin to hold greens.

I have always been hesitant to spend the money on a fitting, however, I can say after this experience I would 1000% go to the fitting $100 or not. They have soo many levers to pull between the heads, shafts, weighting and moving COG that you could never determine on your own, especially for $100. If you buy the club from your fitting they waive the fee too. The other thing is that the Titleist fitters are the most qualified for their products based on the training they receive at headquarters before the product launch.
I can’t stress enough the level of confidence that I had immediately getting the GTS4 in my hand after being properly fit.
