The original Match featured Tiger Woods vs Phil Mickelson and drew a ton of eyeballs as Lefty came out on top.
The Match II is airing today and features the rematch, but they brought some friends. Tiger is paired with Peyton Manning, while Mickelson’s partner is Tom Brady.
Live Chat is available in the forum and in the comments below when the round kicks off at 3pm ET.
I totally agree with 2 4somes. More content, more fun.
Pros: Tiger, Phil, JT, and any one of Rory, Brooks, Kuchar (trash talk and divisive figure)
Ams: Jordan, Curry definitely. I would love 2 wisecracking comedians that can actually play. Forget Raymond and Larry the Cable Guy. If we can’t come up with some wisecracking comedians, then maybe long drive competition players. The long haired dude that is the current champ has some personality.
As for the opponents, I think you bring back Phil and someone like Romo.
I would have responded yeah that’s great Soo much good information, I’m going to get this close for tap in.
It was so detailed that wow I don’t even know how those greens were rolling but super fast
Can’t bring Kuchar. He would be the only one not to agree to donate the purse to charity
Manning was amazing at times and flew under the radar other times. Brady was off in the beginning but he came around and hit some shots before the end. I almost feel like it was a no win situation because the baseline is Tiger Woods on his home course. I’ll admit it – I was too hard on these guys in my mind and I’m glad they were there to show what “normal” golfers look like.
If they could get MJ next year the ratings would double
This is what I want. Need to time this for the fall.

Yeah. As a viewer I thought it was interesting to actually hear how processes stuff. I really didn’t think it was there’s always that guy. I think Brady is just the type of guy that likes to be coached and Phil is ready and willing to do that.

Wow. Amazing numbers, even more amazing that it beat out every major in PGA Tour history.
I thought it was pretty interesting to hear one of the greatest short game players in the game talking us through his thought process on the shots. If it wouldn’t have made the telecast 10 hours long, I would have liked to hear him do it on every shot around the green.
When you add NFL legends to an already great golf mix, TV ratings are bound to happen. Pandemic may have helped, but this was ratings gold.
Sounds like it has to knock out the PGA Championship as the 4th Major.
Totally agree. Yes, the pandemic obviously presented an opportunity for more people to be available to watch, especially as no other sports are on TV. But let’s just enjoy a good thing.
Okay, I may have just snorted when I read that in laughter.
I think that’s Phil’s personality… he’s chatty. And if I had to listen to someone talk it up on the course, I’d rather it be from possibly the best left handed short game golfer in the world.
this was absolutely marketing and creative gold… Whoever got this idea off the ground was great. No only was it a rematch, but they got two very well known athletes who play decent golf. I know Peyton is always a big hit at pro-am and his banter leading up to The Match as well as during was huge plus. Tom is Tom and good choice on a great QB that people love or love to see lose.
Stuff like this gives an inside look at the decisions pros make on a golf course everyday as well as struggles from single digit guys.
I watched live, but my DVR was on the fritz and only recorded half of it. Haven’t seen anywhere that is showing a replay though. I checked TNT On Demand and didn’t see it listed there.
I do like a good Pebble Pro-Am mostly for the course than the golf played. I think if anything this should show that people want to hear banter and thought process.
im sure brady was legitimately asking for the info/help though. Of course phil probably went way more involved than brady wanted haha.
Absolutely he was asking for genuine help. Which was crazy to see from a guy who tells everyone what to do on the field.
well with that said, you could see once phil started to go too far and almost FIGJAM ish, there was a time or two where you could hear or see Tom just be like, ok that’s enough, please just hit the ball or let me play it now haha
I recorded it on my sling subscription.. Is there any way I can share that with you cap?
its on the TNT streaming app (at least on my apple TV it is) I’m planning to replay it now
Ok cool. ? I only checked on demand via DirecTV didn’t check the TNT app.
What @JB said makes perfect sense. Tiger and Phil draw the golfers and golf fans in, Tiger draws the fringe fans in who would watch him no matter what it was, Tom and Peyton draw in the professional athletes and non-golf sports fans. Overall it appeals to a much larger demographic than a regular PGA Tour event.
Definitely. There’s no reason for Tiger and Phil running this back once a year in slightly different formats with other athletes for the next 15-20 years. Even have them team up against other pros would be fun. But there are tons of variations they could play that would be a fun draw once a year.
Skip Tony – we have seen him golf! Maybe he can join Charles in the booth and broadcast as he’s good at that.
I mean, there are a lot of famous athletes who golf that they could draw from. Musicians too, for that matter – which might draw in an entirely different crowd.
I’ll always take Feherty on the call, love listening to that guy. I think Romo would probably be good at it, will be interesting to see if he ever branches out from football.
That was hard to watch in the beginning… Keepp watching though…

Totally is so far but he is being a much better sport about it than I would be haha
Tom always finds a way
Holes it from the fairway then split his pants when getting the ball out of the hole..you can’t make it up..
