For the first time, the PGA Tour has moved to something called a “wraparound” schedule that combines two calendar years. The season opened recently with the Frys.com Open October 10th-13th and concludes with the Tour Championship in September of 2014.
The questions THP has for the readers are simple. Do you like the wraparound schedule? Does it change your view of certain events? Would you change anything about it?

I hadn’t given it much thought until yesterday when it was to me at a golf outing. It gives the journey men a head start on the FedEx points and gives the big boys a rest. Maybe it will attract some middle of the road stars to give these few events legs moving forward.
I’d add a big event to get the stars out before jamuary and give the fan what they want. It also makes the new year more exciting as the stars might already be in form.
Im not liking it. Yeah its fine to have some tournaments now. But give the guys some time off and lets start in like February or something. This will be a good way to get some players that aren’t noticed to be noticed from not having the big names there.
I can see why some may not like it. I’m a Tour junkie though and enjoy it. I’m happy to see the winners of these fall events now get in The Masters, and earn Fed Ex cup points. The Frys.com field was the strongest it’s ever had based on the World Golf Rankings points awarded. This is huge for the communities and charities associated with the fall events. There are just six events, including the Frys.com, before January.
I like it, why not? It’s some golf to watch and talk about. The guys can still take a break if they want, and some lesser known names can get some camera time and get their name out there.
I got nothing wrong with it. It will keep the fans engaged during the winter months (in the north) an that’s always a good thing. I’d like to see a new, big event added to really keep the excitement going and to draw some of the bigger names out there. Don’t know when that should be, but I might say sometime around Thanksgiving.
I’m definitely for it. It looks like the majority of the top players are still going to skip these events this year, but the fact that they are now official events which reward FedEx points and Masters invitations for the winners means that the fields will contain better players overall from years past.
Now there is no more Silly Season – it’s all the real deal.
And who knows, once this first season is over some of the big boys may have a change of heart when they see what happens with the FedEx points before they go to Hawaii in January.
My only problem is that it looks like I won’t be able to see any of the events because I don’t get the Golf Channel anymore. 🙁
I’m indifferent to it. Doesn’t bother me nor does it excite me. With football on these days, my golf watching interest is significantly lower. So I guess, all in all, I really don’t care either way how the wrap around season works.
I believe that, if the goal is to distribute a larger portion of the prize money to the middle and bottom tier of the tour,it will succeed. Unfortunately, I believe that the new schedule will result in some top ranked overseas players opting to forego participation in the PGA events. If so, the revised schedule will join with the revised PGA qualifying format to enhance the attractiveness of the European tour(eg.Peter Uihlein et al)
My wife hates it. She wants to know why golf is on all year now. LOL
Now that I’ve experienced the wraparound, I still don’t know what to think of it!
I think it’s okay given that it gives some of the lesser known players an opportunity to win good earn and points whilst the biggest names are holidaying.
