Tiger Cub Junior Golf Review

At The Hackers Paradise we get a lot of requests for reviews. We try to get to every single one of them, and it takes time, however there is one request we get more than any other. That is for us to review clubs for juniors. For us to do that we contacted a lot of teaching professionals and asked what brands were being used by the juniors that they teach. One name kept popping up and that was Tiger Cub.

We contacted Tiger Cub and after a couple of weeks two sets of clubs appeared at our offices. I want to start off by saying that this company has great customer service. You contact them and you have a response VERY QUICKLY. That is something THP has learned to love and this company passed with flying colors. Tiger Cub junior golf’s mission is simply to be able to deliver the best possible products to our junior players.

Here are the two sets that they sent over for us to review.

MK 4 / Age 6-8 / Approx. Height 3’8-4’4
Tiger Cub stripe series MK4 are designed with lighter head weights and shafts, flatter lie angles. The oversize 260cc no.3 wood has a larger sweet spot for the forgiveness of mishits and helps build confidence when driving off from the tee area. The stainless steel precision cast irons have an under cut cavity and are 25% lighter than mens standard clubs.

The 6 piece package set consists of:
– 3 Wood-260cc/25o loft
– Iron – No.8 and p.wedge
– Heel toe putter
– Tiger Club deluxe stand bag
– Tiger Club no.3 woodcover

MK 3 / Age 9-11 / Approx. Height 4’4-5’0
Tiger Cub stripe series MK2 and MK3 are designed for the young players in regards to their overall physcial development and strengths. The clubs are 25% lighter than mens standard clubs the head weights and shafts are lighter the lie angles have been set to achieve the best results possible and the weight positioning within the heads has been set allowing for the best shot accuracy.

The 7 piece set consists of:
– Driver 330cc/15o loft
– Hybrid no. 4/5 /29o loft
– Iron no.8 and p. wedge
– Alignment putter with a polymer face insert
– Tiger Cub deluxe stand bag
– Tiger Cub driver headcover

Each set that they have is broken down into approximate age ranges for the clubs inside as well as how they are fitted for certain heights. They go as high as “young adult” and even have 2 sets for the girls that are not the same clubs in a different color. The color pattern is different, as well as the weighting per club and the lie angle of each iron. We found that by doing everything in an organized manor such as this, it takes the confusion out when shopping for clubs and when it is time to replace them for a new set.

With the two sets they sent us we were pretty much set for ages 6-11. One of our local courses happened to be having a junior camp that week and we asked if we could participate. We asked each parent at check in if they minded this and nobody had any real issues with it. At the camp the children were allowed to compare these irons to their own and it was an enjoyable treat for THP to see all the smiles as they got to try out new equipment. The clubs really felt great to many of the kids but the teaching professionals claimed that the Tiger Cub clubs were much better fit for each child. They liked how the sets were broken down compared to many of the other junior golf brands out there.

What we learned is that as much as we preach fitting for adults in getting new irons, the same holds true for kids. It is all about length and weighting and making sure that the set they are playing fits them properly. With Tiger Cub they take the guess work out of that and THP feels that it is a great beginner set for any parent looking to get their kids into golf. The only issue we had is trying to find them online or in stores. But there is a section on their website that says that your local shop may call and order them for you. You can read all about that and see everything Tiger Cub has to offer at Tiger Cub.

Till Next Time
