HBO is releasing their two part Tiger Woods documentary this year with part one coming on December 13th and the second part airing the following week on December 20th. TIGER, will be based on the rise, fall and rise of the 2019 Masters Champion.
Featuring the likes of Steve Williams and Sir Nick Faldo the two part series will also include mistress Rachel Uchitel from the 2009 scandal that shocked the sports world.
“Few global icons are more visible and less understood than Tiger Woods,” said Peter Nelson, EVP HBO Sports. “His prodigy came with painstaking sacrifice; his perfected athleticism immobilized him in agony before the age of 40; his self-made fame enabled a self-destructive world of secrecy; and his redemptive reemergence posed as many questions as it answered — not only about one of the greatest sportsmen ever to live, but also the greater American society that engulfed him. Now, directors Matthew Heineman and Matthew Hamachek provide viewers a definitively nuanced portrait of Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods.”
“Since his introduction to the world at the age of two, Tiger Woods has inhabited our collective consciousness as a prodigy, a pioneer, a champion, a global icon, and then a tabloid headline,” said directors Heineman and Hamachek. “After months of research and countless hours of revelatory conversations, we discovered that he has always been a projection of outsized expectations. His father, his sponsors, and his fans all made Tiger Woods into whom they wanted him to be. Our goal was to dive deeper and create an unflinching and intimate portrait of a man, who like all of us, is imperfect and inherently human.”
The series will air on HBO and and HBO Max.
What’s this? The year of tearing down the greatest black athletes?
Media is so corrupt and racist. Disney tore down Jordan.
And once again, on the 13th. New mark of the friggin beast.
We have arguably the greatest golfer of all time, achieve heights unimaginable and they came crashing down, only to get redemption by coming back from all of it and winning the Masters. Its a huge story and shouldn’t matter what the color of a persons skin is to tell it.
Yeah, we are going to shut the race talk down right now.
And thank goodness for that. So tired of all the jump to conclusions we have going on in today’s climate.
I am not sure that I am too interested in this at this point.
I dont necessarily disagree, but no chance you can tell any of the fall if Tiger is behind the documentary.
Which makes this a difficult project to pull off.
Political correctness is an affront to your 1st amendment rights. Don’t help the powers that be there if you can help it.
Different perspectives. We need them, or really bad things happen in history. Remember?
This is precisely the time for such discussions. My apologies if this is not the place for it. It’s a golf forum, I get it. However…
"The unexamined life is not worth living."
-Socrates
So ironic. I was chosen to play Socrates in a high school play.
Agreed, but there is a time and place for all of that. This is neither the time, or the place. You want to argue about politics.. I am sure there political forums somewhere for that nonesense..
"why"? because of money….easiest answer
A documentary on an athlete that hit the pinnacle of his sport, had it come crashing down and then built back up to hit the pinnacle again. If they wait for multiple years and either other major wins or no other major wins, it doesn’t have the same timing in my opinion.
For sure.. Yes that is the reason.
You could be right. I am by far no expert on these things or how to capitalize on them. But didn’t Jordan go through something very similar? At the height of his power. Dad dies, leaves to play baseball then comes back to dominate again? Tiger is a name that is going to be mentioned forever.
I love the quote from the Sandlot. "heroes come and go kid, legends never die". Tiger will be a legend. You can do a documentary on him in a long time and it will be watched. Especially since he will become the measuring stick for every golfer from not till whoever the next Tiger is.
Ding ding ding.
Best part is for these media companies is that all the footage is pretty well shot already. Interviews are cheap to produce.
Just depends who owns the I.P. for all this stuff.
did you miss the doc they just did on lance armstrong? they made him look like the biggest DB of all time and he was involved in it.
Going away to play baseball and coming back (which was documented) is nothing like what happened to Tiger though. Between the hookers and the drugged out on the side of the road to coming back and winning the masters is a very different story to tell.
no disagreement from me.
Well that’s just that greedy tool taking more money.
I don’t stream. I don’t propagandize.
A theatre of horrors the 3rd Reich have foisted upon the masses, of which they could have only dreamed the last time we faced these issues in the world.
They get PAID for it this time around. Ooof.
I actually respected him more after watching it. It made more sense to me why he was like F….U…. to everyone around him, because they were all complicit. And just like MJ, LA had a will to win, that all he cared about…..just like TW.
I love episode one of Lance where he joins the team for the first time and they are going up that mountain pass, and I believe it was Hincapie was like " WHY THE EFF are we going so fast" and the response was "Its that effing Lance guy!!"
History teacher here, so respectfully, stop it with that ****.
A Tiger Woods documentary thread, does not need to turn into a race conversation and discussion of Hitler’s 3rd Reich.
If these are the types of discussions you are looking for, we strongly suggest checking out many of the social media outlets, because this is a golf forum. A fun one at that.
Glad I’m not the only one thinking “how did that just happen”. Those are prime spots as more people are watching that time of year. Can’t wait this will be great.
I did not but think he, and ARod, are right there vying for the biggest DB of all time honors.
2. I’m excited to see this. The rise/fall and rise again of Tiger is such an unbelievable story. What I loved about The Last Dance was the seemingly endless reels of video from that era and it would be amazing if they managed to get a hold of the "insider footage" of Tiger during his peak (and comeback).
Was the NDA just for 10 years and now after 10 years she can speak? Hah.
