As the T-Series irons enter the last year of their lifecycle, Titleist has found yet another way to grab our attention. The T-Series has been incredibly successful. Unsurprisingly, Titleist irons are the most played on Tour, and there are many sets of T-Series irons in that tally. So, what can make a known winner win just a little harder?
A black finish, of course.

It’s relatively common to see a late-cycle black finish iron release from companies and we welcome every single one. In the case of the T-Series, each of the four irons in the line will be available with the new, more durable Titanium Carbide Vapor black finish. This finish is darker that previous black Titleist finishes. It’s smudge resistant, always ensuring a clean look, and is meant to last longer that similar treatments in the past.
As we mentioned, it’s common to see iron companies release a black version of their current line, but it’s not all that common to see these irons get Tour play. Titleist, however, has one very prominent name using theirs – the 2022 Champion Golf of the Year, Cameron Smith. Known best for his precision and uncanny ability to get the ball in the hole, Smith is also well known for his black irons.
“I’ve used the black finish since the AP2’s came out, I can’t remember how long ago,” said Smith, who won the 150th Open Championship with a set of T100 Black irons. “I think for me just how they look, looks like a tighter finish line on top. They also look a little bit smaller, so I feel like you kind of have to concentrate a little bit more to see it.”

Since his Major win, Smith has also added a T150 Black 5-iron to the bag in a quest for a higher, softer landing ball flight.
“We went to the 150, just a little bit more kind of CG down the bottom, helped get the ball up and stop a little bit more. For one, it doesn’t look too dissimilar, because I love the look of these [T100’s]. It was just really a flight thing for me. I feel like if I mishit the 5-iron, it still gets on the front, still gives myself a putt at birdie, and then I can really send it up in the air if I’m flying some water or something on a par 5. So yeah, a really versatile club. This has been really a game changer for me in the long irons.”
The Details

As noted, each iron in the T-Series will be available in the new Titanium Carbide Vapor black finish. In the unlikely event you aren’t familiar with the T-Series, THP featured a full review at their release in late 2023. In addition, eight THP Forum members received a full set of their choice and enjoyed rounds of golf with Titleist’s R&D staff at the 2023 Titleist Experience.

T150s would be sweet but i can’t say I’d pay the mark up.
They look really sweet! @Hawk , great write-up btw.
Question, with new Titleist irons most likely coming out later this year do you not think timing is a little late to get folks to come over to the existing T series lineup or is the black just enough to entice folks to make the plunge because they live black irons so much?
I really like black and the improved titanium sounds promising but personally I would rather wait for 6 months or so for the next iteration. On the other hand I guess if someone is set on buying new irons in 25’ and wants to play them all season I could see them making the jump given their sexy appeal. They do look so ???!
Curious what Titleist feels from a marketing standpoint on this releases’ timing or was the finish not ready for prime time last year? With all the negative press on another OEM titanium release regarding wear, was their timing a result of some additional work to get it right?
Curious if you have any insight. Thanks.
Pretty! But also a pretty price lol.
Those are gorgeous… pricey but gorgeous.
It’s a little late in the cycle to upgrade my T150’s, but they look great.
Dang, the Johnny Cash of golf clubs. A all black Titleist bag top to bottom would look pretty wild actually.
Great write up- I’m a sucker for the black finish, these look very well done.
Love they are looking at improved finishes and they are stunning. Certainly didn’t expect quite that level of up charge. A 40% up charge is a pretty big jump.
Those are absolutely gorgeous. Probably not making the swap but if money was no object I’d have a set.

This is pretty common in my experience. It depends on the company’s normal release cycle of course, but just off the top of my head, Callaway, Srixon, and Taylormade all did something similar recently. The exact timing may have differed a bit, but in the end this is a way to breathe a little life into the bottom half of a product’s life cycle.
I am a sucker for black irons. If I hadn’t put new irons in the bag in late October I might be tempted. My next planned iron purchase is late fall. These look incredible. New harder black finish is a step in the right direction. I’m sure they will find their way into many bags. Upcharge is a little more than I might have expected however.
Love me a dark finish! Pretty much set this season but these look good
Just, wow!
look great. Love my T series irons from the 2023 Titleist Experience. I asked about black finish when we were trying these out.
These always look so clean
these are gorgeous, wow.

IIRC, Marni Ines mentioned that the black finish is challenging to get right from both a performance/face perspective and also so that it doesn’t wear off quickly. and they won’t release them until it’s right.
i wonder what the price will do on these when the new 2025 irons release this fall?
hmmm. might be worth waiting and “upgrading” to black at that time?
Im all for more options. This really doesn’t do anything for me as I dislike dark finish irons, but I like the option for those who do.
Im interested to see how this finish holds up.
The Jet black finish on their wedges to me is best in class in terms of durability etc.
I’m not generally as big on black irons. And the T150 never really had an issue with glare anyway.
They look cool though. But my need to have this meter is fairly low here

Yeah I didn’t see that coming
Love murdered out irons.
These look really good and at least from the pictures I’ll buy into the fact that the new finish is darker…very curious how it stands up to wear and tear being a new finish for them
absolutely STUNNING.
With that eye watering price for essentially clubs at the end of their lifecycle what was the goal? Make the standard versions look affordable? It certainly gets people talking about the iron series again.
That’s 30$ per club away from ti fusion and the new 3dp tour.
Mannnnn wow!!!
@AnthonyC will have these in the bag this summer, I just know it.
Always cool but silly they wait until the mid or end of the product cycle to release black finish. Titleist is doing a poor job keeping up with everyone else’s cool stuff. From lack of cool/fun releases to their awful online “community.”
They need to step it up and get in the 21st century. All my fun stuff comes from other companies.
Don’t worry, im rocking black blades:

& these show up as I’m looking very hard at the T100’s, thanks Titleist ?
Great article @Hawk I hope these make it to a PGASS near me to at least have an in hand look at.
Love this finish! Tough to see the price point that much higher, but pretty ain’t cheap…
I could see a color split set with the long irons/utility irons in my bag rocking the black finish. Many ponderings…
So clean….
Love a black iron, but for $30 more get Ti Fusions with better tech? Or Cobras. Black finish alone not worth that markup with no new tech involved.

They would get announced later this year but wouldn’t come out to us general hackers until this same time next year.
Good lord, those are absolutely stunning
Wow…just wow. I Love my T100S irons….too bad the S isn’t available in this new finish.

Yup…saves me from spending more money on more clubs 😉 ROFL
These. Are. GORGEOUS.
Love the looks of these.
I wonder if the back plate will fall off of the 350s still on this version. Hopefully they fixed it.
