Titleist TSR drivers and fairways have been on the market for several months and have received plenty of praise during that time. Similar to years past, there is a TSR2 driver that brings together speed and distance. TSR3 offers fine-tuning via the Speed Ring Face Technology, and TSR4 is a 430cc low-spin monster. To complete the family, there needs to be a product that can work for golfers with a little less speed in their game, and that is the new TSR1.

TSR1 is all about helping moderate-swing speed golfers achieve speed and distance through the help of lightweight designs. To create this line, Titleist R&D took a close look at each club in the TSR line and stripped off every gram of unnecessary weight to help make these the best-performing ultra-lightweight clubs on the market that still look and feel like a Titleist.
The term moderate swing speed gets tossed around often, sometimes without real numbers assigned. When Titleist says moderate swing speed, they target golfers whose driver swing speed is under 90 MPH, which according to industry research, is roughly a third of all golfers. If that sounds like you, then the TSR1 lineup might be one to consider.

TSR1 Driver
Golfers in this demographic will look for drivers that can help them generate speed and still look good. Titleist believes that TSR1 fits that mold perfectly.
To help golfers achieve more swing speed, TSR1 is about 40 grams lighter than TSR2. Those savings come from a combination of head design, shaft weight, and even a more weight-efficient grip. Even with some weight savings, the advanced aerodynamic shaping and Multi-Plateau Variable Face Thickness technology are still a significant part of the TS1 story, similar to how they are throughout the rest of the TSR driver lineup.

“The TSR1 line represents a continued commitment to deliver speed to every style of player,” said Stephanie Luttrell, Titleist Director of Metalwood Development. “With the TSR1 driver, we found more speed and launch for the player through a lightweight design, better aerodynamics, and our deepest CG ever in a Titleist driver.”
Lofts: 9°, 10°, 12°
Price: $599
TSR1 Fairway Woods
The new TSR1 fairway woods represent the lightest and highest launching fairway woods in the TSR line. Compared to the TSR2, the head is more substantial at 180cc but comes in 20 grams lighter.

By choosing an open hosel design, Titleist pushed that center of gravity deeper within the head to help promote higher launch and more forgiveness. Compared to the TSi1 fairways, the TSR1 has boosted the MOI by an extra 15%.

“In designing TSR1 fairways, high launch was the top priority,” said Josh Talge, Vice President of Titleist Golf Club Marketing. “We wanted to make the highest launching and most forgiving fairway we could. The result makes for a seamless transition from TSR1 driver through the top end of the bag.”
Lofts: 15°, 18°, 20°, 23°
Price: $349
TSR1 Hybrids:
TSR1 hybrids carry more of a compact fairway wood look, making them larger than TSR2. With a deeper center of gravity and weaker stock lofts, these aim to offer confidence to the moderate swing speed golfer.

Hybrid shafts typically have a .370″ tip diameter, but TSR1 will utilize a .335″ tip which is more common in fairway woods, a change targeted to help increase launch. Meanwhile, to help eke out an extra bit of clubhead speed, these shafts are 1/2″ longer.

“Keeping with the increased demand for higher lofted fairways from players, TSR1 hybrids are the most ‘wood-like’ hybrids we have ever made,” said Talge. “With a larger profile and a slightly longer shaft, TSR1 hybrids promote the speed and launch golfers may want from a fairway but with the added gapping flexibility to fit into the rest of the bag.”
Lofts: 20°, 23°, 26° 29°
Price: $299
Stock shafts throughout the TSR1 line are, as you’d expect, lightweight. For the driver and fairways, the MCA MMT SpeedMesh shaft is less than 40 grams in every available flex. The same MCA MMT SpeedMesh shaft comes in at 50 grams as the stock option for the TSR1 hybrids.
TSR1 will be available for fittings starting on February 2, 2023 and will be in stores on February 23, 2023.
I have some practice bay time schedule at the PGATSS Today.
Going to see if they can put together a TSR1 5w that I can demo.
The results on the Driver as me “Thinking”…..
So PGATSS doesn’t seem to have any testing head for TSR1 and the only thing they have is a 7 wood with a 40R flex shaft.
I hit it ok and I’d like to get fit for you however I just can’t get myself to pay $100 for a fitting that I get back if I buy a club.
Feels like a “Ransom” and doesn’t allow me to shop my fitting specs around.
Ok Done a little testing with the V1X

Looking forward to my Titleist Fitting on Wednesday to see if we can squeeze a couple more yards.
Got a little validation from my Titleist Fitting once the fitter tweaked the cog on the shaft:

I was fit in to a TSr1 7h yesterday.
I need a 160 club after my 6i, so we worked on getting a club that would give me that distance.
Really happy about the spin numbers.

Here is the club set up:

I recently was fitted for a new hybrid and was planning to walk out with a TSR, but the numbers did not work out well. Even with a few shaft changes, the TSR 2 produced too much spin in a 3 hybrid, a few shots spinning at over 8000 rpm. The TSR 3 brought in a left miss. These clubs felt ok and very easy to swing. Once I am ready for a new 3w, I will still check out the TSR line but the hybrid was not for me.

The reason I grabbed those stats is because late in the year, you swing is in a groove and the ground is hard so you get more roll.
If I’m matching that now with a wet spring, I figure I’d gain 5% in PA.
Plus 60% FIR is a pretty good stat to start a round with.
The 20° head is very intriguing to me. Looks a lot like an old school 7 wood.

Interesting that the hybrids take wood shafts and are slightly longer in length. Probably good a option for those that want, but can’t get the tour only 23° Apex UW. I also wouldn’t put too much emphasis on the speed requirement. Zac Blair uses a TSi1 and is testing the TSR1 driver.

The hybrid has a great shape.with the right shaft combo I could totally see very good strong players putting one in the bag.

Saw this TSR1 Hybrid head yesterday. The shaft in it was super light but it can take any shaft I assume. Anyway the head shape is delightful and it’s an inch or 2 shorter than a UW stock length. I bet it flies a bit higher too. After seeing that shape and feeling more comfortable with the length (I shorten driver and FW already) I am extremely tempted to get one of these and give it a go.
I just tried to order a TSR1 driver with a Tensei blue shaft – asked the shaft to be uncut and leave grip off – loose in box. Rep said ok . so driver was ordered and it came in and the shaft was cut but grip was loose. so I returned it because now the rep claims Titleist cannot send out a driver without cutting the shaft at the butt end, claiming it was Mitsubishi had that rule on them but I asked Mitsubishi and they said NO we do not have any rules like that – so now Titleist claims they just won’t ship a driver without cutting the shaft. This is so weird.:((n):confused::confused:

Really keep coming back to this head. I put a bid for a 20* on eBay. Let’s see what happens.

I got it!! Incoming and will stick a Fuji Atmos Tour Spec Blue shaft in it when it arrives. This will go head to head with my 19* Apex UW (OG).
This is going to be fun.

hell yes
First trip out tonight with this hybrid. It definitely has some pop and some height. I really liked how it flies. It feels light so I’m going to add some lead tape before I play tomorrow. First trip out though I love what I’m seeing. It does sound strange for a hybrid. It kind of sounds like a driver which is weird.
I have played a couple of times with the TSR1 20* hybrid in the bag and all I can say is that it has a lot of firepower. I’m comparing to a 19* Callaway Apex UW. That club is 2″ longer and 1* lower lofted. This club for me is going as far with better performance for my taste. The ball flight is much preferable. I’m seeing higher ball flight. Based on the rest of my clubs and their peak height the UW is peaking around 70ish feet (flatter than everything else in my bag) and this one is getting around 90ish feet (similar to the rest of my bag). I am seeing about 200-210 total distance which is right on where I am with the UW. More forgiveness, higher ball flight, this is in the bag for the foreseeable future. I read some reviews online and universally the folks reviewing liked the club but not the lightweight shaft. I just stuck a heavier stiffer shaft in mine and it’s a behemoth so I would not be scared of this club if you’re thinking it’s going to be too forgiving for you, whatever that means.
Ended up personally birdieing a par 5 in a scramble thanks to this club on Friday. Hit a good drive then on a blind downhill 225 yard shot that needed to get over a tree I used this. Ended up with about a 30 yard chip shot for our team right of the green in a nice safe spot. The elevation and carry this club provides at 20* is quite nice and the short shaft length just makes it easy to connect on.

Hmm, I have flipped back to my UW lately. I think the TSR1 is a little left biased and the UW launches a little low for me. I am probably going to be looking elsewhere from both soon. Probably going to try a 7W or 9W.
