It’s that time once again, Toulon Golf’s next Small Batch release is here, and this one will likely tug at the heart strings of any golfer. The Latrobe is back for Toulon, and while it may seem crazy, it sure looks as if they have managed to take the most classic shape of them all to an even more refined level.

Toulon Golf “Latrobe” Small Batch Putter
Last month Toulon Golf gave a tip of the cap to the Big Cat with its Santa Monica Small Batch release, this month though, it is all about The King. The Latrobe is a nod to both the legendary 8802 as well as its most famous user, who forever loved his Latrobe Country Club.

As should be expected, there are some modernizations taking place with the Latrobe to bring that 8802 shape into a more playable option, well, as playable as a blade like this gets. In the original, the nickel sized face height and heel-side sweet spot were well known, as was the 310 gram head-weight.

However, that was 1964, and things have changed since then when it comes to agronomy as well as what golfers are acclimated to in terms of weight. So, the trick this time was finding a way to increase that weight, while keeping the historic shaping.

Toulon Golf, through many iterations, finally found the sweet spot of 355 grams, made possible using a sole plate which is milled out of tungsten. Since the material is twice the weight of steel, the shape could remain the same while not only increasing the weight but also fine tuning the CG placement.

Visually, you’ll find no hard edges, as based on the pictures we have seen everything has been melted/softened to create a softer visual that flows at setup. As you would expect, there is no alignment aid here, nor is it needed for such a gem. The 904L Stainless Steel with its higher nickel and copper content also fits the nostalgia here, and the “Brilliant Black PVD” finish as well as “Fine Double Fly Cut” face milling brings it all together.

The Details
Toulon Golf is using the tagline, “This is Latrobe – artistic, modern yet nostalgic, and truly fit for a King”, and I couldn’t think of a better way to put it. As always, there will be seventy-five of these Small Batch putters released, and they will be priced at the same $1,800 which the rest of the lineup has. The Small Batch Latrobe will officially drop on 2/9/24.

I like everything I read about that and it appears to be fantastic and classy. I just am not drawn to the shape, I think maybe I’m just currently a #mallethead.
The product sounds amazing, but for a different golfer than myself.
Love the shape and the look but I’d never be able to play it. Toulon does the small batch putters so good!
Love everything about this one except the SB on the face.
It’s a lovely looking putter and a nice homage to the DBAP, but they made a massive mistake imo. I just don’t believe these putters are meant to be played at a 350+g headweight.
I get why heavier putters are a thing, but if you are willing to use such a putter in the first place, I don’t think you are overly concerned with stability. These putters work best with thin grips, wristier strokes and a 310-320g head weight.

Agreed, maybe mostly on the color choice that seems to really drawn my eye, instead of a more subtle accent
That’s such a beautiful putter!!! Love that shape

Give me an umbrella or maybe the Latrobe CC logo.

I’m even okay with the SB with color fill (or raw) that doesn’t take away my eye so quickly from that shaping
Not my thing, but I can appreciate the beauty. Looks really nice, and I’m sure even better in person.
It’s kinda funny, but I thought this putter might be a little cheaper than other Toulon releases. Not a lot that you can do to an 8802 blade.
Absolutely beautiful putter
This brings back memories. I played an 8802 style blade many years ago back in the 70s. It was as spectacular looking as this one.
Everytime I see a putter like this I want to be able to game it. I love the style but then a little voice in the back of my head keeps telling me this…

It’s a beautiful looking putter and a great modern take on a classic design. Toulon does some fantastic small batch items. This shape is just not for me though.
Absolutely gorgeous looking putter, I think what Toulon has done with the milling and the weight is fantastic. I know many love it but for me though I’ve never liked that shape but I sure would love to roll it a few times anyways
Love this style of putter, and Toulon does it so well yet again. If there is any one single style of putter that I WISH I could get along with, this would be the style.
So nice! This one would most definitely be a wall hanging!
Funny about the weight. I found the same and added lead tape to my wilson to get the weight up. I think I have the head at 360 grams..
This is a good looking putter. I would totally use it..

The small batch price is set, they’ll all be at that price.
There’s also a LOT of tungsten in this, so they’ve massaged the legendary shape quite a bit, even shifting the cg as I mentioned.

Lighter weight (310-320) is just a no go on modern greens for most people.

It’s a Mount Rushmore shape for sure. Absolutely legendary.

You’d have to pay to use that umbrella haha

Yes it is, and I cant hit the broadside of a barn with one.

Hahaha, I either make them all, or miss by two miles.
I absolutely love the tip of the cap to The King on this one, I always have. I know he’s Sean’s favorite, so it’s cool to see them pay homage to the King of Cool.

It’s funny I have been using this shape for about a year. I think my stats improved over all. But yeah a miss is usually not small

You need a thorough putter fitting already. Been saying it for a couple years now….

I think they may suggest I just play a different game. Lol

I wish I could, and every time I try, it ends poorly.
Thinking about the sound (feel) of this one ???
It’s a great looking putter just not my style.
God their putters look so damn good.
It’s beautiful. I love the finish and the milling. The crowns on the sole are a nice touch. So much swagger in a classic design.
I do think the SB would look amazing without the paint fill though that wouldn’t be a deal breaker. A wrapped leather grip would look fantastic on it.
I love the latrobe shape… I hate the price tag that comes with it from these type of releases.
Another well done release by the Toulons. I don’t think I’ve ever hit this shape but I’d like to try it for grins and giggles

Small batch be small batch.
Very nice. Unfortunately, I suspect more will be framed and hung on basement walls than put in golf bags.
I’ll own up to carrying a putter that is 2-3 times as expensive as it needs to be just because it is pretty…but I’m talking $5-600, not $1800.

Yes indeed but 1800 be 1800 for a pretty basic look. Love the shape and the Toulon brand overall.
Just not in my price bracket haha. I get the work that goes into it.

Basic in shape being a classic, not in materials, refinement, or execution.
I get that the price is high, it is, but this is where the Small Batch is, and will be. They keep selling out, so clearly it’s working.
That said, there are other things coming eventually which should excite people. But, Small Batch will remain Small Batch.

I think you’d be surprised. Yes, some will be collected as they’re works of art imo, and that is something Toulon intends Small Batch to be, art. But, many will be gamed.
People do things the way they do, we are all different.

Oh for sure. I know it’s quality. Toulon and that group do a great job and I’m a big fan of the sleek/muted look.
I complain but i also realize that this is not overly priced in terms of small run putters these days.
I miss when something like this was 1200 tops but you could get small runs from certain people for like 6-800 haha
So cool. I, obviously, love the nod to Arnie and the Pittsburgh area.
