It is once again time to see just what Toulon Golf have got up their sleeves for their latest Small Batch release. Suffice it to say, we have seen them bring putters that are more like works of art each month for over a year now, but we have not seen anything quite like the new Palo Alto.

Obviously, by now we all know that each Toulon Small Batch design tips its cap to a region of the world, but it always has a deeper meaning behind it. The new Palo Alto takes that to a whole new level with its homage being to Bob Rosburg, an innovator in golf both on the course with six wins and one Major Championship (1959 PGA), and off of it with his penchant for tinkering with his own equipment.

Not only did he tinker, but he also designed, and Mr. Rosburg was one of the early supporters of the mallet putter. His most popular club design? We know it today as The Rossie. Arguably one of the most unique mallet putter shapes on the planet, it is also one of the most successful with multiple Major Championships to its lineage, and now known for being the shape of choice for Jon Rahm.

The Palo Alto gets its name from Mr. Rosburg’s roots back to Stanford University where he played collegiately, but also because that part of the United States remains an area where innovation still thrives today. The shape is Toulon Golf’s take on the legendary Rossie, it is constructed from a combination of 904L Stainless Steel and 7075 Aluminum for the sole. Due to the size of the shape, the multi-material construction was critical in blending the performance with maximum forgiveness the Rossie is known for.

In the Small Batch Palo Alto, the CG has been moved forward in the head helping to provide a more efficient initial roll while still utilizing the natural MOI of the head shape for added stability. Toulon Golf has paired it with their H5 mini-slant neck and that has given the putter a toe-hang of 45-degrees, making it similar to a traditional blade. Another unique twist is that the face is somewhat deeper and uses a slightly “crowned” shape that allowed even more precision when it came to placing the CG of the Palo Alto.

Finished in the eye-catching Midnight Blue PVD, a black anodized sole plate showcases four Redwood trees that the area is known for, which allows the curvature of the Rossie shape to stand out like never before. Likewise, a single topline alignment feature ensures that visually, the shape gets its rightful showcase.
The Details
The Palo Alto officially releases today, 10/24/24 in extremely limited numbers and will be available on the Toulon website www.toulongolf.com in a first-come-first-serve basis. As has been the case with the other Small Batch releases, this work of putting art will be priced at a premium $1,800.

Hmmm.

I have so much useless putter knowledge lmao

Not to take this thread totally off topic, but how does face balanced vs toe hang play into this taking the alignment aid discussion into account?
I’ve learned that flange lines, and most lines, are the devil with that based on aim bias and eye dominance. Anything flange will pull our left eye vision BACK to the rear of the putter, and exacerbate a right miss.
This was one of the single most eye opening things that I learned in going through that fitting.
Yup! It was an option on the drop down and I went for it, the guys there reached out to confirm and after we talked about my aim bias and that the Sea Island is a dot, the decision to stay nekkid was the right one.
The Toulon crew is awesome.
How did you learn about your aim bias? Was that during the extensive Edel fitting or something else?

It really doesn’t as much as people think. It’s a comfort thing, because every putting stroke has some arc no matter what. I’m a believer that shape, alignment aid, and neck are the most critical aspects.

It was. The laser never lies, but it will break your mind.
Since then, I’ve gone way down the putter fitting education rabbit hole. It’s a big passion.

It is absolutely stunning to me in hand.
And I’m SO happy I went with no alignment aid. That being an option made my right hand putting but left eye dominant self so damn thrilled.

Your comments are interesting to me as I’m right handed, Left Eye Dominant and my putter has no alignment aid.

Nah, just a simple but clean mid-mallet magnetic cover with small batch on it. It reminds me of the odyssey covers with the piping, so its the one thing I’m kind of “meh” on.

I kind of assumed that was the case since we didn’t see anything about it. I know the story is the putter itself but for that price tag I think it would be nice to have a little more effort put into the cover, but I also know some may be in the camp that they would prefer it not to be. Can always buy another cover.

I think most dropping the coin on these already have other covers, or plan on just not using the putter at all, but displaying it.
The headcovers are the one area I have been pretty hard on Toulon for in the past and have brought up to them again recently.
Alright, I’m gonna hate asking this because its going to end up producing a photo the world I can’t handle, but how does the finish compare to the Sea Island? Same exact Midnight Blue or are there differences?

They’re noticeably different to me. Both extremely plush and most won’t be able to differentiate, but each use a different aluminum material in the sole plate and the Palo Alto has a more forward CG so it’s a little deeper at impact.
I love the work that goes into these. I’m just waiting for the right one to drop…

Maybe you could get an ArborLinks cover for it? The tree logo kind of goes with the Palo Alto redwoods on the bottom plate of your Toulon.

Right before bed the epoxy had cured and I went ahead and installed the Garsen Quad TPE.
Windy as hell today, I’m talking it broke my fence windy, but I’ve got to go test the combo for science, right?

It’s such a minor detail, but Toulon is so conscious about what font they use on each Small Batch release and this one is absolutely perfect. My favorite is still the script font, but this one is so good, and makes so much sense for the story of this design.

Wait, the shaft. Is that the one piece/solid graphite? If so, how did it work, i thought they were for crank/plumbers only?!?

Im a fan, it’s something Toulon did with the OG Memphis way back in the day and it always appealed to me, but not in that shape.
No performance issues, takes a little acclimation, but, I don’t think people miss as big on their putters as they think.

You wouldn’t think it possible, but I don’t miss much with a putter.

Hahaha, it’s harder to misse massively with a putter than people realize. Now, terrible at aim and pace? That’s much easier for folks ?
Made a LOT of putts today in the wind. A lot lot.
I’m so damn happy to be back to a traditional putter.
