There are hundreds of golf stores on the internet right now and some are really good at what they do. There are also plenty of golf apparel stores for people that are looking for their golf clothes on the web, however there are very few that we consider in a league of their own. Trendy Golf is one of those stores!
Last year THP decided that we were going to start profiling a select few stores that we felt were from a different breed than the rest. We get no advertising dollars from them, but we feel that they are worthy of exposure because of what they are about and what they bring to the table. It started with our review of a store for high end ladies apparel called Lady Golf, a store that is in a class by themselves with what they stand for. From there we introduced our THP readers to Fairway Styles a store that carries some of our favorite brands on the market today.
In the last few weeks we have had another online store brought to our attention by the name of Trendy Golf and how they are coming to the US and offering some unique apparel lines that offer a little something different for the golfer of today.
Background
From the Company
TRENDYGOLF was created through the belief that not all golfers are indifferent to fashion and trends. At the turn of the 21st Century the game became cool, with fashion houses entering the fairways once more. Overnight golf was back, sexy, cool and attracting more youthful people to the game. Golf was always a game played by old men, but today it is a sport, filled with professional athletes and physically fit amateurs. Designer brands see the worth in being associated with such an elitist game, as many of these new golfers are familiar with the off course apparel of these designers.
From its conception TRENDYGOLF has been aimed at the golf apparel market from a different angle; not only would we launch with the most desirable fashion brands but the solely online format fits the busy and technical lifestyle of the customer. The concept website is trusted to be best the place to buy the best golf fashion without worrying about competition or price, store hours, or that your competition will have the same look.
Coming to the US
From the company
The vision is the same to provide designer clothing dedicated to the US market. The ability to offer more fashionable European brands to American golfers will enable TG USA to stand out from the competition. The association with Tour Players worldwide will represent the globalization of the game of golf and the new focus to dress your best on the fairway. The over sized polo and baggy chino look has gone, its time for the USA golf market to have top choice of designer clothing that can be worn on and off course. TRENDYGOLF USA is a destination and a dialogue about the hottest looks in the fashion industry and their translation to the golf world.
Brands
As of right now Trend Golf USA is an apparel line for men. But do not worry ladies, they are adding women’s apparel in the Spring and the early reports of the lineup look amazing. The company has started with some of the best niche brands on the market and thrown in a few that you may not know, but probably should learn more about. Here is the list of their apparel brands:
J. Lindeberg
Puma
Dunning
Fred Perry
Bjorn Borg
Ralph Lauren RLX
Q’aja Couture
For the purposes of this profile we will cover a few of them and let you know our thoughts and what you can expect or look for in terms of style, quality, cut, etc… We have reviewed brands such as J. Lindeberg and Puma, so we will go with a few others that you may not already know about but should.
Fred Perry
The brand was launched in 1952 and has been a staple of high end fashions since that time. One thing has not changed in that entire time and that is the polo shirt is still made in England and still made to the same cut and specs as it was way back when. Sent over for us to take a look at from their line were 2 Fred Perry polos and an argyle V-Neck sweater that is simply awesome.
Polos – The shirts are 100% cotton and extremely classic looking. They are thicker (knit) than most golf shirts but that will not pose any problems with them both on or off the course unless the heat is at extremes. The style is classic, elegant, and the cut is as good as anything on the market that we have seen. While I was not a huge fan of these on the course because we are in FL, I felt as though the Fred Perry polos were as nice a knit polo shirt as I have seen off the course. All the polos at Trendy Golf USA feature the iconic Fred Perry logo on the breast and the cuffed sleeves. They retail for $69.
Sweater – The argyle sweater is made out of 100% Merino Wool and is as soft as anything we have tried all year. The pictures say more than the words ever will. It features a classic argyle pattern with the purple being really eye catching. The quality shines through with this piece after wearing it a few times and having it cleaned. Add to that a cut that rivals some of the best we have ever seen and you have a winner on your hands. Retail price is $138.
Dunning
Featuring the richest fabrics and a complete consistency of fit, Dunning garments are born from two decades on the leading-edge of technical apparel design combined with a family tradition of classic British tailoring. They are seen weekly on tour with players such as Zach Johnson and John Rollins wearing them. Their clothes offer an elegant look that few can rival and their fit is up there with the best made.
Shorts – The shorts are 59% Polyester/ 27% Coolmax/ 14% Opelon and 100% comfort. They are extremely lightweight and are also wrinkle free. Durability is as good as any we have seen and the overall look wreaks of class. White shorts are a staple in golf fashion and the Dunning pair get high marks across the board. The retail price is $80.
Polos – From the company:
100% Technical Polyester. This new athletic fit polo has the best properties a shirt can have. Permanent moisture management, breathable and anti microbial, makes for a cool, odor free technical polo. This is more than your basic polo, this shirt will perform long after you leave the 18th green. Add to that a cool new slim fit, and you have a shirt that can’t be beat. Dunning TOUR logo on left sleeve.
Our take: One of the best golf shirt lines we have reviewed all year. Classic in look, elegant in style, and cut that is slightly slim fit, but not all the way there. Both colors offer a sheen look to the eye close up, but they are not shiny and do not go overboard with it. The tour logo on the sleeve is mild and not very bold, and adds a touch that is top notch. If you have never tried a Dunning golf shirt, it is something that THP strongly recommends. Style, Quality, Colors, Durability, etc… are all there and take this brand to the next level. Retail Price is $75.
Q’aja Couture
From the company
In 2002 Q’aja was approached to measure and supply suits to Puma for Team England at the Commonwealth Games and two years later they were the preferred choice as the bespoke partner to Ben Sherman for the procurement of formalwear to Team Great Britain for the Athens Olympic Games 2004. The diverse Q’aja client portfolio now includes Opera singers, Pop and Movie stars as well as an ever growing stable of the world’s finest golfers. Golf has become a sporting niche where Q’aja has not only been warmly received, but also where he has succeeded in bringing colour, cut and contemporary fashion onto the most traditional of links.
No one epitomized this golf transformation more than PGA tour professional Darren Clarke. When he began to appear on the golf course clad in striking colours people instantly began to take notice, they also commented on how his physique appeared changed. Coming in an array of vibrant colours and choice of quality fabrics; cool wool or a cashmere/cotton blend the trousers are stylish and distinctive. But it’s the company’s reputation for for providing golfers with trousers that move in all the right places and give the style conscious golfer that little extra yardage when they reach the 19th hole which have led them to fit Darren, Lee Westwood, Thomas Bjorn, Graeme McDowell, Sam Torrance, Richard Green and many more.
Our take: A unique brand that many just do not know enough about on this side of the pond. They wreak of elegance with their perfect cut and fit and add a splash of pizazz with their color palette. This is a rare treat that we just do not see enough of anymore.
Pants – Both the black, and the blue pinstriped trousers are made of 100% wool and when you step into them you get a certain confidence that is something special and not the norm when it comes to golf style. The look is incredibly unique all the way down to the stitching and the attention to detail is sublime. The contrasting colors used on the black pair make them stand out in a way we are just not used to. It is
subtle, but at the same time loud.
The pinstripes on the blue pair add that extra touch for those looking for something different. The gussets (slits on bottom of pant) are like nothing we have ever seen before with a contrast color and logo “Q” being used inside each one. We have reviewed quite a few brands that use gussets, but none quite like this. A very unique feature is the waistband that includes a sliding adjustable piece that can allow up to an extra 3 inches around the waist. These are simply something special that few can rival in the marketplace today. MSRP is $225.00
Polos – There were two shirts we had the opportunity to try and the 1st was the “standard polo and is 46% Wool / 54% Polyester. Made with Sportswool vapour management technology producing a fabric that stays cool during and after physical activity. It is extremely light weight and comfortable on and off the course. The shirt has the standard Q’aja logo on the breast and just a “Q” on the back. Retail price is $130. The 2nd shirt is a button down golf shirt that is 100% Wool. Made excusivly for TRENDYGOLF the Q’aja full button TOUR shirt is incredibly unique and wonderfully comfortable. Q’aja make these exact same shirts for many USPGA and European Tour players. Retail price is $155.

I like what I see in the Q’aja Couture line, but the prices are a little too high for me. The Dunning line is right up my ally. I have a shirt from them from last year and it is my favorite. Really like that blue one.
Looks like we have a winner here. I have 2 Fred Perry shirts and like them both a lot. No review of the Borg underwear? ha
Nice review and a great line. I’m not really someone who splurges on clothes very often, but will certainly consider these. Thanks.
I am really interested in some of their lines but did not know of them before reading this. I am a golf pants nut and like things a little different. The Q’aja brand seems to fit that mold. I preferred the black to the blue, but both are edgy. Thanks for the info.
I love this store. I have never heard of it until reading this and have spent the last 30 minutes looking at clothes. While they are out of my budget now, at the beginning of the year, I have some items that are coming home.
I am so jealous, I can’t wait for them to add ladies apparel.
Really good information. I have been a big fan of Dunning since seeing ZJ wear it at a tourny this year.
Very good read. I am looking for Dunning clothes for my husband and they have some nice pieces. The question really becomes is when do they have sales and what kind of deals are available. Their selection of brands is great.
THe Qaja stuff has me stumped. I am not sure I can pull those off, but they just look so nice.
I have a Fred Perry shirt that I bought last year. I simply love it. Its a knit polo, so I do not play golf in it, but it is my favorite shirt to wear outside of golfing.
Really good review on some nice clothes I have not seen before. Looking forward to trying some of their stuff out.
Not bad looking but some of the prices are really up there. I’d like to know how the fabrics hold up long-term.
If they have sales I am all over it. Some of the best brands I have found.
I bought a Dunning shirt last year and it is my go to shirt. I will have to keep my eye on this site. I just bookmarked it.
Thanks for the information, I’ll check them out.
It’s onerous to find educated people on this topic, but you sound like you recognize what you’re speaking about! Thanks
