When True Temper debuted its new ICON grips in 2024, it seemed like only a matter of time before putter grips would follow Just a few months ago, the new ICON putter grips from True Temper were announced, and we immediately knew we had to get them in for testing.
The ICON putter grip lineup comes in three different shapes: the ICON Pistol, ICON Midsize Pistol and ICON Oval. All three are familiar shapes in the world of putter grips, giving most golfers an easy transition into the new ICON lineup.
As we often do here at THP, we decided to put a couple of these directly into the hands of our forum members to see what real golfers thought. Their task was simple. Each tester selected which of the three grips they preferred, installed it or had it installed, and provided feedback on the THP Forum for a period of one month. Once that testing period ended, we asked each of them to provide a short recap of their experience.
ICON Putter Grips: What Our Testers Said
ICON Pistol

The ICON Pistol #1 is the first putter grip I’ve had in play that increases the feel of the putt impact as well as increases awareness of the putter through the stroke. The perfect combo of texture and feel, this won’t be the only ICON I put in play

The Icon Pistol (#1) putter grip is one of the more unique textured putter grips I have gamed.
It gave me the firmness in the hands that I like but a certain softness during the putting stroke that I really enjoy and it thrives in high moisture environments.

ICON Midsize Pistol

The Icon #2 is the perfect blend of size, shape and texture I’ve seen in a putter grip. The contours of the grip, as well as the subtle textures throughout, make sure your hands are in the same repeatable spot every time.
The confidence from something as simple as hand placement has made a world of difference with a putter that I have struggled with in the past. The size and shape of the #2 strike that perfect balance of size, to quiet the wrists, while not feeling too large that you feel out of control.

ICON Oval

ICON putter grips offer familiar shaping with exceptional texture and feel. They are firm with softer contouring that melts into your hands. I’m able to relax my grip pressure and maintain head awareness and control. The graphics are subtle and make installation easy. A solid choice to complement ICON swing grips.

The ICON Oval (#3) putter grip takes a classic shape and puts a modern spin on it.

As I grab it, I immediately notice that there is a little extra volume in the lower hand that just feels right. There’s no urge to fiddle with the placement of my hands because the shape fits so naturally in my fingers.
Couple that with the outstanding texture, and I have a grip that feels secure in my hands without needing to apply much pressure at all.
Not to mention how incredibly grippy this stays even when faced with a little morning dew! In all situations, the ICON Oval allows my putting stroke to flow freely and confidently

Final Thoughts on the ICON Putter Grips
That wraps up our testers’ official testing period with the ICON putter grips, and as always, the grips are theirs to keep. If you’re interested in reading more of their feedback and following their experiences throughout the testing period, you can find it all in our forum thread.
Have you tried an ICON putter grip? If so, we’d love to hear your thoughts as well.

Really enjoyed putting this grip to the test! I have purchased another one to go on a build
The reviews on THP by the group, have got me to put a new Icon on my next putter that will go in the bag here soon.
Really great feedback.
I was surprised by this grip. Did not know what to expect but will be buying one this winter to put on my TRTL!
Thank you True Temper and THP for the opportunity to test this putter grip!
Really like the ICON grips. I went ahead and bought another for my new putter too
Really like the stock grip on my Odyssey right not, but based on reviews on the Icon Putter grips might need to be a consideration for when the stock grip needs to be replaced. Might have to grab on and put it on a backup putter now to try.
This was a really fun rabbit hole to go down! Don’t think I haven’t stopped testing them either. I love that they dropped a little nugget that we could see more.
Appreciate being a part of this group!!
I really hope the ICONs end up in stores soon, I think if people could feel these they’d sell even more easily
I had never known that people putt in water so much lol eye opening testing

I’m a dew sweeper baby, and I’m too lazy to prop my putter up off the ground

Use a towel!
:ROFLMAO:Most of the time I talk about moisture it was mainly sweaty hands. I dont putt with a glove on… But also playing in rain or wet ground where I have a chip off the green and set my putter down and dont feel like taking a towel with me.

But I do wipe it off when I get back to my pushcart, and the ICON dries right off with no feeling of the moisture lingering or soaking in

I put it on a backup and it immediately turned in to my gamer. It made that much of a difference.
This putter grip opened my eyes to what I actually needed in one, not just what I thought I did. One of the biggest improvements in my putting this year happened because of this grip. I need more of them and knowing they have new shapes coming should be exciting for a lot of people!
This will be the grip on my future new putter that I’m currently pondering. It’ll happen, just don’t know what or when.
The main review thread is awesome; packed with good info.

You won’t regret it
I am very excited to see what other shapes come out (as hinted at a few days ago!)
I wasn’t one of the original testers but the #3 Oval has made it to three of my putters and I really like how the hands sit on the grip. Makes focusing on the putt a lot easier knowing the hands are placed correctly
The wrap up comments really make me want to try at least one of these. Nice work, guys!
