More than a handful of years ago, UST Mamiya came out with an iron shaft called Recoil and it took the golf industry by storm. A huge success, the Recoil lineup is now the #1 graphite iron shaft on the market with a myriad of options to choose from. This year, they are releasing a new lineup called Recoil DART.
To begin, DART stands for Dual Action Recoil Technology and it is coming after years of development and testing. Getting into the technical weeds for a bit, DART is designed to optimize hoop stiffness in the critical areas of the shaft. In the flex zone of the shaft, you will find an increase in hoop dynamics bringing maximum energy transfer and better feel. In the tip section, the hoop stiffness is increased to stabilize and offer more consistency.
Hopping out of the tech talk, you are probably asking what this all means? Better consistency, more feel throughout the swing and maximum energy transfer. In other words, create a better Recoil shaft.
With UST Mamiya Recoil DART, the company set out to eliminate inconsistent areas of the shaft and any deadness or clunky feel that some associate with other graphite lines. Starting out, the company is releasing Recoil DART in two different weight classes, the 65 and the 75 and the specs are below. This offers both mid and high launches in fairly light weight packages.
In extremely early testing, we have seen some solid stability in weight classes where that is not normally the case. More coming soon after some more thorough testing in the THP Tech Studio.
Based on early conversations, I think we are going to be hearing a lot more about the UST Mamiya Recoil DART line of shafts in the near future. Of course, if you want a chance to ask the company directly, check out our THP Experience called Shaft Up, where you can win a trip to Las Vegas to get fit and spend time with the company over multiple days of golf.
Understatement for sure. Vosh and Danny both really liked them and I believe a set will be heading my way for testing soon.
Will these 90’s be offered to us Regular folk at some point?? or are they just concepts??
They are Protos right now, but per the podcast with @Canadan and Danny Le on THP radio they will be coming.
Are you going to try them one length?
What weight offerings are you going with
I will be messing with a prototype that is a bit heavier but honestly I liked them a lot in the lighter weights. Felt good, and pretty stable
Are those lower launching than the Recoil Protos you had?
No sir.
I look forward to your thoughts on these.
These the ones Danny had in Vegas? Interested to here your thoughts if so.
I was concerned with the light weight. Ended up with the 65s in my Apex. No issues, nice solid feel. Thinking of switching them to my XFCB’s or try the MMT’s in the 65 to compare.
I have WIlson D7’s that have .335 recoil f3 and want to move to f4.
UST shows the Dart at .370
How does that work?
Assuming you meant .355 in the irons, I’ve been able to taper down these shafts to fit into Mizuno heads before without issue or you could drill the hosel out to .370. But if you have the regular Recoils in your D7’s they were offered both in .355 and .370 while the Darts are currently only in .370.
I have hit them in stock Apex DCB’s. If you can find those you can hit them.
Interested to hear more.
Very.
Can’t wait to hear more as these really have my interest. I really liked the 75’s but the weight was too light for me but these are not far from the Recoil 95’s that I have in everything.
That’s what was interesting to me too. I also really liked the 75s and kind of convinced myself it was too light. No idea why, I hit them great. Held up well to pretty much everything I threw at them.
Danny is currently testing 105s
OL gang LFG!!
Oh I’m all ears waiting for your thoughts.
Awesome. I really like my 82g recoils. The additional stability from the Darts are really intriguing. Looking forward to your long term testing.
I believe a 2023 release.
When you say stable is it a Proto feel in the tip or a regular recoil feel? Or in general through the swing?
This is the one I’m interested in most!
That is a bit harder for me to quantify. Data suggests I’m seeing slightly (about half a degree) more launch than my Protos, but they were in different irons (both radspeed and previous forged tec). With that said, I don’t notice anything less stable or stout in these even in a lighter weight.
Have been waiting to hear news on these. I could get down with 90. Lower than that and I tend to struggle. Would be a fun comparison to see some data between the standard 95s and these.
still one length?
Yes sir. I think full pics are in the Forged Tec thread
Cool, I couldn’t tell by the picture if they were the one length heads or not.
