Each year as new products come to market, the creation process is refined and the work that goes into it is rather unique. For years golfers have heard about internal testing, but the discussion around it appears to end with just the two words. Does it mean a employees playing golf every day?
THP TV went right to the source and sat down with Mike Yagley, Director of Innovation, Research and Testing at Cobra Golf to have a candid discussion about what goes into the testing that takes place when a company is going to bring new equipment out.
THP TV is shot in 4K, so recommended viewing is full screen

Great video, Dean does a great job asking questions that elicit insightful responses.
Also, the text boxes are the best, “Mike Yagley Very Smart”
“Dean of THP not as smart” haha
Excellent segment with Dean and Mike Yagley. We don’t always appreciate the amount of trial and error that goes into club design and this video provides great insight into what goes on in the lab to get things “just right”.
I enjoyed this video.
Crazy how they can predict sound off CAD drawings.
Thanks for sharing.
Very thorough explanation for us not as smart readers. Whacking balls outside sounds like more for the employees, but it’s satisfying to know that the products in my bag were tested to this degree.
They all sounds good too. Cobra’s got that down
This is one of my favorite videos so far (although maybe I just really like Yagley).
Thanks for capturing this guys. I’d love to see all this testing from behind the scenes some day!
That was a great segment, Yagley is so good. It is neat seeing how much he enjoys making golf clubs. Nice work Dean!
That was a really interesting segment. I can only imagine how many tweaks they have to make before the final product is releases. I would be banging my head against the wall… Love hearing Yagley talk about golf equipment though, you can really tell he puts everything into. Excellent interview Dean!
Great info Dean and very interesting segment!
Great piece. Liked Yag’s water balloon analogy to explain the common requirement 2 or 3 more testing iterations. What’s undersold is the massive amount of time, work, and expertise just to get to the point where they begin testing the first iteration.
Great interview! Mr. Yagley is so knowledgeable and breaks it down so everyone can understand. Very enjoyable and informative!
Great interview and piece. Very interesting to hear how products come to market, how long the test cycle is and how a few extra pieces of material here or there can have such a resounding effect on sound.
Great job Dean and crew!
Super interesting and very informative.
