Without using “other groups”, what do you believe slows you down on the course? Let’s say for the sake of discussion, you are first group out and it’s not cart path only (assuming riding) or a relatively easy stroll (if walking), what is slowing you down on the course?

There’s a couple within my group(s) that are slow pokers. Always waiting on them seems like every shot every hole.
Another vote for looking for balls in the rough. The thing is, I do appreciate when a course is set up so the rough is actually rough length and not at first cut length. But there are times when it does slow down play
Nothing.
Course I know well or a random round that is just to get out and play – Nothing. I am quick to abandon the search for a golf ball. I am quick to rake my ball up for putts. I can think through a shot here and there but I am ready to play in a good time.
Trying to make a score – I will use my 3 min to search. I will grind over a putt. I will wait for my free reads on the green that I have earned. I will play ready golf in all other situations. If first tee time in a foursome I would still expect to not pass 3 hrs.
That straight down the middle shot that just disappears and you can’t find it. You know it is in the middle of the fairway, but it is just not there. I’ll cut ties with that ball quick, but the delay irks me.
I try to be really watchful for where my ball is going, and I know the distances that the ball should be at (min/max), so it is typically easier to find my golf balls. I have a heck of a time trying to find the ball of others though in a group, and don’t have a lot of patience for it if you don’t have an idea/aren’t watching.

Looking for that golf ball that “should be right here” is generally what slows me down. I’m probably too quick to give up the search, but I’d say it adds a few minutes to the round that would be avoided if I just put it center cut every time, or had some spectators to assist.

This is me. I give up on the search way too fast. I dont have time for that.
I think for me it would be my routine around the green more than anything. I hate looking for golfballs so if I cant find it right away im dropping. I dont take long at all to hit iron shots or chips. So to me, the best chance to waste time has to be around the greens
What takes me a long time? When people don’t play ready golf – and it’ll throw me entirely off. When I’m (solo golfing) and I get paired with people. And I’ll be watching for them to hit, and I can hit almost in cascade. So that way we don’t get pressed and everyone can have fun.
When someone drives to a ball, gets there, dottles, measures, dottles, measures again. switches between clubs. Pacing of someone else can slow me down some, I’m like a golfer who works in a groove.
hunting for lost balls in our hellish heather is definitely atop the list.
I will say though, if I am first out, and it’s not CPO, I’m probably riding. WAY easier to set pace.
Usually looking for balls. It’s the ones I saw land easily in play, but just can’t find.
I’m with the majority here. Searching for balls in the rough. Bermuda sucks sometimes.
If anything it would be looking for golf balls whether in the rought or possibly OB although I don’t really look that long.

Typically looking for golf balls.

It’s always this. I don’t take long to swing. I don’t waste much time lining up putts. It’s just that I suck and I’m typically looking.
Not bringing the correct club or enough choices.
Time spent looking for a ball (this one I have been better about lately)
Playing partners overestimating their abilities (same group of guys for 5 years now same conversation about abilities for 5 years now)

I should make time given how slow everyone else is- so frustrating to see one down, pick the spot in your head only to get there and it’s not there.

If it’s super slow, I’ll spend some time searching. But, I hate walking around aimlessly searching for a ball.

This is me. I get to a point where I’m getting antsy and just droop and move on.
Its 100% looking for balls on wayward shots. Or even in the rough/second cut. Other than that I feel like I am a pretty fast golfer.
When I’m struggling off the tee, I tend to struggle getting back in the fairway.
Like others have said, searching for that ball that you know is “right here”. I’ve even had times where I finally find it, go to grab the right club from the cart and then can’t find it again.
Slow group in front or maybe lost ball. Mainly lost ball at a tourney where there’s a ruling question. Bad play doesn’t slow me down. Outside of that when it’s raining a lot cuz I’m drying things constantly.
Probably weather conditions like if it’s particularly humid or if its raining and I’m drying grips, switching gloves, wiping club faces, etc.
I was going to say lost balls in our long rough, but we are a narrow course, so even though you are likely to be in there, its not a huge area to look so weather gets first pick and hunting in the rough gets 2nd pick.
For me, second guessing. The indecisiveness.
In the middle of the summer when everything is lush and green – anything off the fairway often takes some time to find because the rough is so heavy. In the fall – the leaves.
Other than those – recording video or live-posting my round.
1) if there’s no one behind me i often play a bit slower. just no worries.
2) posting to the live round thread. i prefer to do live rounds when i’m walking, as it’s actually easier to walk and voice post than it is while driving a cart. including pictures is probably the bit that’s the slowest as it requires a bit more attention.
If I’m alone it me dropping balls from different spots or practicing around the green
The idiot ahead of us who dumped her cart off the bridge into the water. Ummmmm how? She was retrieved from the water unharmed, the cart not so much. It was not a very Happy Gilmore 2 Weekend for them. And it slowed us all down.
This summer’s heat, looking for balls and a couple “deliberate” players in our larger group if in my group or group ahead.
This time of year walking the heat is the biggest factor, otherwise stray tee shots. There is lots of trouble either left or right on my home course.
Sucking at golf
