Question posed to me last week during the carnage we saw going on at Oakmont. What would Nelly Korda shoot at Oakmont given the same conditions the men were playing?
We have seen lots of social media posts asking what would amateurs shoot, but what would the world’s best female golfer shoot?
Oakmont for the 125th US Open
7,372 Yards
Par 70
Only 1 Golfer was under par

Erin Hills for US Women’s Open
6,835
Par 72
13 Golfers were under par

Both tests were obviously extremely hard, but curiosity, what would the best in the LPGA shoot at Oakmont playing those conditions?

Outlawx used the carry distance because the opening post said, “under the same conditions”. Nobody was getting much rollout due to the rainy conditions. That is why he used carry distance.

There was plenty of run out Thursday and Friday before the rain hit. Guys were landing balls short of or on the front and letting them release to back pins.
Saturday and Sunday were completely different playing conditions as it was very soft. I would like her chances better on a firm fast track as it would allow her to reach almost all the par 4‘s in reg if in the fairway. I think those wet conditions were probably worth 4-5 shots.
I don’t think this is overly complicated, she is what, a +4 or +5 from typical men’s tees? She carries it 250+
She is basically the best amateur male from your state, essentially, or thereabouts.
Oakmont was probably rated 78-79, but you add some extra yardage .
I mean, i think 76-80 is very reasonable

I was waiting for your input here. As one who could by rating actually break 80 there, I’m interested in your evaluation of your scoring potential vs a potential future goat candidate in the woman’s game
Mid to high 80’s and that’s on a good day weather permitting and all, given the situation Sunday I could see easily low to mid 90’s
She would absolutely expect to break 80. But in any given round, a lot can happen. You end up in a few terrible spots and it get sideways fast. The real question would more be, if she played it 25 times what would she average.
I think she would do better than most think. It’s still golf in that if she hits the fairway, she’ll have a good chance to hit the green as they are big greens there, and she putts well. She doesn’t need to win the US open….but break 80? sure. She could for sure do that. You make even 1 birdie it really helps.
I’ve posted this before but i’ve shot 74 from the 6800yd tees at Baltusrol with it in pretty tough conditions (greens 12.5-13, very deep rough) . And i am pretty comparable to someone like Jen from Shotscope in terms of game, who is a +4 women’s player from traditional womens tees
Nelly is not even in the same stratosphere as us. In a casual round she’d probably be very upset with like an 81. I’d want to shoot an 80-81 and i’m not Nelly
Between 80-85. Maybe everything breaks right and it’s high 70’s or everything goes to hell and it’s high 90’s. Either way it would be fascinating to watch

On Thursday-no rain etc. the best golfers in the world averaged 75 at the Open. Despite being a great player I can’t see her breaking 80 let alone mid 70’s.

There’s a big difference with US open pressure though. I’ve seen a million of these threads over the years and it really comes down to if the question is could she shoot 74? Or could she shoot 74 in the US open with the pressure and the fans? The question in the OP is a little unclear.
I am not saying Nelly would compete well against the men, if teeing up in the same tournament, but could she shoot 75 in a casual round—absolutely yes.
I could make 55yd field goals all day in practice when i was 22yrs old. Could i make them to win the AFC championship game ? Probably not.
Assuming she hits the fairway, except for maybe 5-6 holes, she is taking off a head cover for her approach shots-including par 3’s. What percentage will she hit the green from that far out? If She misses then she is in the cabbage. If she misses the fairway off of the tee-good luck advancing the ball.
