Mizuno denim copper wedges are great when you first get them but the finish rubs off so quickly and really doesn’t look good with the sole being silver IMO. That to me makes it look cheaper and not as premium. I have played TM, Vokey, Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, and Edel wedges. They all do the same thing so the whole premium thing doesn’t do anything for me.
I have been through a number of fittings recently and all brands are playing with the same specs so not sure there really is a premium club. The biggest issue I see is using the brand name but then slapping an “AMG appearance package on it.” Example why have Ventus that doesn’t have Velocore. That is shady. Just call it something else and charge the right price.
I mentioned the lighter weight lettering on the Triad in the putter thread:

The logo used on the Zip ball would work better, too:

Even the old school Staff logo from the Titanium balls:

Anything but what they put in the cavity.

Why not keep the golf division Wilson/Staff and other sports Wilson?
Because it would make far too much sense and be logical, may sound blunt, but they’ve not been the best at that when it comes to golf decisions the past 2 or so years.

Eh, they had a couple year span where the correct decisions were being made, and made well, THP’ers got to have direct witness to it in several very cool experiences. Some personnel changes happen and they pissed all that momentum away.

Yeah, I feel like it’s been more “off” than “on” for a long time, unfortunately. 🙁
Some interesting questions in the episode, plus I love the Arrow appearance. I honestly don’t mind the presentation on the new W/S putters, it’s clean and simple, and inoffensive shapes that clearly work for a majority of the buying public. Will they sell at that price tag? I don’t know. Brand loyalty is a tough one to overcome for companies toward a skeptical buying public, it was mentioned to me during my putter fitting when I asked about a certain wedge brand: “People don’t really notice them unless they come looking, they gravitate towards the …….. or …….. that they are used to.” I’m not well read into the struggles of Wilson as a brand, but my perception of Wilson over the past few years has sort of struck me as the island of forgotten toys, the driver rack always seems to be at the back of the store, their putters have been high up on the second shelf or way out of the way, and irons are sort of tucked in by the remaining previous seasons’ models. Trying to remarket as a competitor in the “high-end” golf sphere has to be difficult, and would take a lot of work and some clever campaigning. As far as wedges, this year has opened my eyes to a number of companies I wouldn’t have heard about before, I would be willing to try basically anything that would help me play confident golf. @GolferGal that recipe looks great, we are big pork tenderloin fans in the house – I’ll have to try this one and take a break from our balsamic glaze.

Is the S in the shield for Sports or Staff? seems odd that it would imply Wilson Staff Staff when looking at those last 2 logos.
Wilson needs a complete rebranding. The W/S premium line suffers because they still cannot shake being a box set brand. Callaway makes a box set, Cobra makes a box set. But that is not their identity. Wilson it feels like the reverse. They are a box set brand that tries to make premium stuff.
I think they are in the 3/4 portion of a rebrand. Staff irons, wedges, putters, balls and gloves have rolled out over the last year and a half. The STAFF designation is clear on these goods. Materials and cosmetics are premium. They must have Staff woods to round out the product offering. Then, it’s all for naught if they can’t tell their story and act like a premium brand. I mean fittings for clubs and balls. It’s heavy lifting but if they can’t do it it’s on them. I suspect they cant walk away from Wilson Golf items because their volume pay bills for R&D.
@GolferGal I’m SO with you on the cluster mailbox. My first AZ house had one. it didn’t even have a slot of outgoing letters. it was so aggravating. having to drive out of the neighborhood to find a mailbox!!! I suffered though that for 10 years.
I’ve since moved to a neighborhood that has individual mail boxes. I hope i never have to go back to that hell.

They are truly the worst. I get frustrated every time I have to ship something now.

I get that I am different but when I used to go into the office there was a place there I could put outgoing mail. Easy enough as I was going there 5 days a week.
What bugs me about the cluster mailbox is the people that park in front of them so that others can’t hop out of their car and hop back in.

The biggest issue is that I ship stuff out 7 days a week at all different times, so not having a mailbox to put stuff in is super frustrating and it makes your prizes, etc, delayed and I hate that!

STAFF it should be. I don’t like the cursive Wilson or the W/S Shield

The middle logo is great
Great show it is nice to see Arrow!
The only reason Mizuno is not really considered for me is the course where i buy my equipment does not sell them. I have never seen a Mizuno range day for fitting here. I could go try them at say the PGA store but like to hit what i am buying outside on the range. I know in my mind they make beautiful equipment that works well but I’m not buying unless i can try it and be fit outside.
Everything they do golf should be this… Premium line and logo…

Big box sets if they make them and other sports should be script wilson.

Just finished watching. Enjoyed the part about Wilson/ WS. Marketing wise, who decided it was a good idea. I get that they are trying to get back to ‘Wilson’ as a premium brand, but the damage has been done in my opinion. This isn’t a Chevrolet Chevette and Corvette conversation. Everybody knew the difference in quality between those back in the day.
Slapping a regular old Wilson logo on their premium offering is not the way back to the glory days.
Anyway, great show and hope you’re feeling better @JB
Tomorrow morning a new episode drops and it’s good
I did not enjoy. Next time Better maybe. Good try
