Later this year, THPers will get a chance to play the famous island hole at TPC Sawgrass. As we watch the best in the world battle the 17th for the biggest prize in golf, it begs the annual question, how would you fare?

Playing from the typical tees that the best in the world play from, do you step up and knock it tight? Hit the green? Miss badly as the the forum watches along during a live stream? You tell us your expectations and how you would fare on the island hole at TPC Sawgrass.
The image above is the intimidation factor. The images below, give you a bit more detail. 132 yards to the front end and just short of 160 to the back at its longest point.
What are you grabbing from the bag and how will you fare?

No wind, I’d play an easy 8 iron as I can’t hit in 160 so as long as aligned properly and hit it hall-a** straight, should be safe.

I’m taking a PW or 9i and going for the middle of the green. Walking away with par is a win.

Same exact plan. I’m taking whatever I know will cover the front but not the back. Into little or no wind that’s likely PW. Into a little bit, maybe 9i.
146 yards? Probably a smooth 6 iron for me. With the wind, who knows?
Wind dependent. If no wind, tail wind it is a 3/4 swing with 8 iron. If into a head wind I’m going with the same 3/4 swing by with 7 or 6. Nerves would be real and it will all be a factor of how my ball striking is that day as to whether I hit the green or find water!
I just saw that Brooks Keepka is +20 on his 20 times playing in a tournament.
I know this isn’t a major but that scares me a little.
Ive always dreamed about playing 17. How its gone in the dream is how I think it would play out in real life. Nice high floater ending up 8 feet away and me draining the putt.
I think I would be OK with low wind, it’s a comfy distance and I’ve played similar holes often, I’d go with an 8i.
Smooth 8i as I know if I step on a 9, bad things could happen lol…
Aim for the middle and hopefully land softly and 2-putt
3/4 to full 9 iron depending on the wind to the middle of the green. Of course there will be some nerves, but I think I can handle it just fine.
Played an island like par 3 on the sim today…hit the ball well but too far left…splash…solid triple on the sim for a similar hole
I gotta think that for me it’s a 7 iron with the ball on my right insole for backspin landing in the 36/23 spot (diagram on right). Hopefully that gives me a little bit of the brakes before the brow of the hill to take me to back right (52) area. Short putt away from the splash for a bird. In the alternative, I land perfectly for an eagle. I’ve decided in my mind where the pin was for this fantasy…
I have played this hole on a sim. And that Sunday pin placement is no joke. 136 straight over that bunker and about 4 paces from the right water. With that said I hit a 9 iron to the middle of the green.

I might be able to hit the green, but I couldn’t come in steeply enough or with enough spin to stop the ball. Even if it does land on the green, that sucker is going for a ride, and whether it rolls off into the water is pretty much up to chance.
This is a great distance for my best club in the bag – 8-iron. I think I’d fare as well as I did at TPC Vegas #2 in 2020 (3-for-3 GIRs).
Unless the wind is blowing, then all bets are off.

Real low ball hitter?
Either an 8 or 7 iron and aim for the center. Knowing me though, I would try to do too much and swing out of my shoes, with a hard pull left and in the drink. Go take my drop, 2putt and walk away with double.

A hard enough pull left finds land ?
I had a sick fever dream about this hole last night. Let’s set the scene:
It was the victory cup and we were informed that the rule for 17 was if you hit it in the water you have to dive in to find your ball and throw it to the drop area in order to be able to hit shot 3 to the green. I bladed one that skipped like a rock and I thought it was going to make it but was inches too short, hit the wood supports, and careened back towards the tree.
I woke up sweaty after the third or fourth frantic attempt at finding my specially marked Mizuno ball. Good news is I might have sweat out some of this sickness. Bad news is I think I’m permanently scared from this dream. ?
Full PW. Aiming a center right of the green since nerves usually bring a little draw into play. Happy with par.
Wind doesn’t scare me as much as a rock hard green does.
My wife and I were lucky enough to actually play TPC@Sawgrass about 5-6 years ago. Got paired up with two singles, one an older guy,
the other was in his 30’s and a pretty good player. When we finally came to the island hole, my wife led off and took some kind of wood,
hit a good shot, and put it on the green!! I hit a nine iron, put it on the green. The other two guys did as well. We ALL wound up parring
the hole! One of the caddies said, “That NEVER happens!! NO GROUP ever hits all 4 balls on the green and makes 4 pars!!!” I have a framed
picture of my follow through on that hole with the island green in the background…!!
Benign conditions, PW to 3/4 9-iron, aiming center regardless of where the hole is cut.
52* no pin hunting unless my games on point. Middle of the green, let the flatstick do the talking
No matter the pin placement, 6i to the center of the green.
It might be a long lag putt, but I will be putting.
With a perfect swing I probably just make the front with a PW, so I’m taking 8 or 9 iron depending on the wind, and I’m aiming dead center to give me the best chance.
Taking my 3-putt ? and getting out.
