Kraft-Nabisco Championship [spoilers]

(Good god I hope she never reads this. I sound like I think she's a cow and that's not the case. I think she's quite attractive.)

Agreed! :act-up:

Paula, Paula, Paula ... :call-me:

Gee Grogger, when I saw your name on the last post, I was all set to greet you enthusiastically and say it's been awhile.

Spoiler
Now I'm not so sure.

What'd I do?

Am I the only one who finds the size of Morgan's arms ... disconcerting? I mean, she's not a small girl, but her arms are huge for her size. And not in a muscular way.

Maybe it's baby fat?:D

Get snarky about poor Morgan Pressel's arms. :act-up: Still missed seeing you around.

Wait those are arms? I thought I was looking at a meat locker....Just kidding, I love Morgan.

I only know how to be snarky, sarcastic, or pissy.
No substitutions please.

Just noticed that Patricia Meunier-Lebouc w/d after her 85 yesterday.

Illness?

Her score made her sick to her stomach...hehe

Whoa--Juli Inkster shot a +8 today? What's that about?

P M-L is an interesting case study. She used to be one of the stalwarts out there. At least I thought of her as such. She even continued to play quite a while through her pregnancy. I was certain that if anyone would come back from that as strong a player as ever, it would be her. But since she had the baby, she's been nothing like her former self. Again, my impression at least. I now know first hand how debilitating to your career and personal focus having and raising a child can be. It looks to me like she is suffering the consequences as well. I admit I'm simply assuming its motherhood that has gotten in the way of her performance. Unless there was an injury I didn't hear about, it seems like a safe assumption. Anyone know anything more about her status these days?

For those who comment that the state of American golf is not good, to start the broadcast today there are 6 Americans tied at the top of the leaderboard!

We got Tiger, what else do we possibly need?

I was watching some of the windfest today & afterwards on the Golf Channel they had a wrapup of it. Did anyone else catch what one of the announcers said when they were discussing Christina Kim? She made a chot & just as she was doing so they emphasized the word "chunky". Said she had a chunky shot & they really forced the word chunky.

I thought it was in poor taste & really had zero to do with the actual golf shot.

I heard it, but I didn't read it as a double entrendre. In fact, she did take a huge divot. They could have said she hit it "fat."

The wind thing is ridiculous. When people place their ball on the green and it rolls off because of the wind, it undermines the fairness of the contest. The men shouldn't have gone half way through, but at least they stopped. The women should have as well.

I agree they should have stopped, at one point I saw on the screen they had gusts of 42mph. I have played in gusts that were 35mph & it was nuts.

Good thing for you we know you're kidding.

She is amazing. She can hit out of just about anything. I only wish she wouldn't have to do so quite so often.

Hi All - Round 2 Report
Wow - It's tough work being a fan. Today was a workout for all of us. Spouse and I arrived at the course early to sip some coffee and watch players practice. Before long Noon rolled around and Lorena, Yani and spouse were off. Shortly after that I trooped along with Angela and Louise. I'm going to guess that maybe 2 hours later winds really started to gust. (Almost blew me over as I stood on one hill) A friend carries a wind guage and it showed gusts in the high 30s. For the most part Angela played very steady good golf, keeping the ball flight low, but you can see how her score ballooned on the back nine. After making 2 nice birds on 10 and 13, putts would no longer drop and the double at 17 was just painful. Her tee shot went beyond the back of the green, 2nd shot (chip) was flubbed and ventured maybe 3 feet, then it was just putting back and forth. 17 really seemed to bother her. Ugh. It was very different from her play on Thursday.

But if that wasn't bad enough, Louise couldn't make anything happen. Drives were generally okay, although maybe were hit too high, but her short game alluded her. Trap trouble, lip outs, you name it, it happened. She was visibly frustrated.

Spouse reports that Lorena played into the wind, rather than trying to hit with lower trajectories but the wind did it's damage to both her game and Jiyai's.

As I type this, the cut, pairings and starting times are being determined. I will try to find out about PML and Leta Lindley. Hope for calmer conditions tomorrow.

Her son is five, which undermines my theory a tad. I've noticed that the first season after a new baby tends not to go so well--Laura Diaz and Leta Lindley in 2007, for instance. Both did much better in 2008. But now the name escapes me--English woman with a new baby--did pretty well last year.

In any event, that entire first year with a baby is nonstop adjustments, coupled with sleep deprivation. By age five, things are a lot easier, and you've pretty much gotten the groove back. Though for a touring golfer, you're dealing either with being away from a child in school or having to homeschool and/or get tutors. Either of those could also make things very difficult.

Loved how they stopped coverage in a major exactly at two hours even though all the leaders were coming through the final holes in terrible winds that drastically altered the leaderboard.

Way to go ESPN.

a$$hats.

EDIT: Oh, and the show they would have pre-empted was a pre-recorded show about the 1979 NCAA matchup between Larry Byrd and Magic Johnson.

Urgent breaking news and all that.

Incredibly frustrating. The missing coverage guaranteed to be the windblown freefall of the year. I told my friend that Michelle Wie would be lucky to manage +2 over her final holes once ESPN2 went off the air. Make that +7. I've played in Palm Springs many times and late afternoons are brutal when the wind kicks in. Angela Stanford was +5 over her final four holes.

Other than excusing early, I appreciate ESPN2's coverage. It has more of a professional look and feel than Golf Channel. Brian Hammons screams of preliminary. And the graphics are fantastic. I can actually see the scores, and not partially cut off like a different Lorena were running things.

Plus, I worked with Terry Gannon's father at the Horsehoe sportsbook nearly 20 years ago. We were both supervisors. Gannon's dad was terrific. While the younger guys were frantically strategizing and worried about the bottom line and job security, Gannon would chuckle and hand out life savers. :D

The fact that you spelled Larry Bird's name that way is so wrong. I idolized him as a child...hehe.

I agree it was ridiculous to end the broadcast at that point, but I do love that ESPN has Judy and Andy commentating. While listening to Judy Rankin I was thinking, "see, this is what it is supposed to be like, this is what we want to know!" She gives us insights into the players lives, thoughts, past play and also great knowledge of the course. I like the combination of she and Andy too, they work well together. Judy talks to the players, they like her (unlike some other commentators), and then she is able to relay that to us about what they have been working on, what they thought about the course, etc. I will take ESPN any day over the Golf Channel just for the commentating.

I also love that Judy uses what the pros are doing to offer practical advice to the viewers. Case in point: last year, Lorena Ochoa was putting from the fringe. Judy noted that she had the ball a little further back in her stance than normal, to give her shot a little more power to clear the fringe.

BGO, I guess, but I tried it and it worked.
