Gas instead of solvent

The only thing I would use rather than grip solvent is mineral spirits. Gasoline would actually be unsafe IMO.

Mineral spirits is cheap, works perfectly, and is available in near odor-free form. The minimal odor disappears upon drying.
 
I buy all my stuff from Golfworks and use grip solvent. It's really pennies on the dollar compared to mineral spirits. So far I have done 2 sets of irons, 3 wedges and 2 drivers with plenty left over.
