How much golf does it take to burn you out?

Outside of the body breaking down, I've never hit that limit. In my late 20s, we would go to Myrtle Beach for a week play every day, 36 holes every other day.

Loved it. It was never enough, LOL... Well, except for when I played horrendously the entire time with no hope of turning things around. Then, disgust and frustration could override enjoyment.

FF to now, busted up lower back and all, I played 4 times last week for the first time in who knows how long? I had a blast doing it. Wish that could be my norm.

Day to day life: 3 days in a row I usually need a break.
On a golf trip, there’s no limit for some reason.

there is no limit. I cherish each and every time I get to play. There are times when I am lazy and that is different than being burnt out.
This is better than my answer. It’s not burnt out, it’s just the couch is so comfy…

Last summer, I had two weeks off in between jobs. I think I played 17 rounds of golf in those 14 days.

By about day 11/12 my body was worn down but I was still enjoying playing. After 14 days, I took 3-4 days off before playing again was back at it 100%.

I haven't found the limit yet

I tend to think of burn out as mentally wanting a break versus physically being worn out.

As @Nappy mentioned, when my game is good, I want to play every day. When I am in a slump, I don’t mind doing some yard work or take a long weekend with my spouse and not play golf.

In 2020 I played 36 a day for 6 straight days. I was ready for more.

If I'm playing poorly, 3 rounds of crap. If I am playing well, never.

I’ve yet to have one where I’m not having fun but 36 holes in a day is about my limit the body can handle well.

Golf trip every year, we play 9 rounds in 5 days (Friday is a travel day home). I’m tired by the end but not burned out.

I don’t know. Never got there..

Getting up there in age (71), a pretty solid week of it will do it to me bodywise. I guess you could call that physical burnout, but there is a mental component. A few years ago my main golf buddy's Son had a vacation week scheduled and told us he wanted to "golf it up big time!" I had bought some special passes that would allow us to play a local private club that we had drooled over, plus two other nice courses. We filled in with others and played 6 out of 7 days.

It was so hard to drag my ass out of bed those last couple of days! I was sick and tired of being sore and tired! And that led to the mental component. when your body is so stoved up that it just doesn't work the way you want it to, and you wind up playing rotten golf, you can come to hate the game a little. At the end of that week I stuck the bag in the corner for 2 weeks with absolutely no desire to play!

Have no idea i love to practice and play.

If I'm playing bad then I have a limit, but if playing well not so much.

My physical gives out long before my mental regardless of how much or how bad I suck!

I’m in between right now. On the one hand I feel like things are settling into a good place game-wise; on the other, I’m feeling physically beat up enough that a week or two away from the game might not be such a bad idea.

My body will burn out physically before I burn out mentally.

Although I took an 8+ year break from golf, it wasn't due to my golf.

Except for other things happening in my life, I've hit golf balls nearly everyday, year around, for the past 5 years.

I'm not sure I could burn out playing/practicing my golf.

If I based it upon how I'm playing, I'd be taking about six months off after last weekend. :ROFLMAO:

The condition of my game has never been a factor. I'm always ready to get back in the saddle and try again. I don't play golf for a living, and my ego can handle the fact that I really suck at golf sometimes, even if it stings a bit in the moment.
I've found that if I step back for a few weeks, my game tends to return to what I would consider normal for me and it clears my mind of all the goofy swing thoughts that I start tinkering with when I'm playing a lot. I know, it's strange...

Honestly the only time I felt a little burned out was when I had a bunch of competitive matches so close together and everything just felt like a grind. That said, I took a week off and was itching to play a casual round again.

I've never had the chance to play so much that I would've burned out.

Probably as much as it takes to wear my body out that I physically couldn't play anymore

Haven't reached that yet.

Haven't got there yet

I've found my limit is 3 days in a row. My back and arthritic feet can't take more than that.

We have been taking our Buddy trip for a few years, and we will play 3 days, 18 a day. Drive (I drive) down to OC Thursday morning, play in the afternoon, play Friday, Saturday and leave early Sunday AM to beat the traffic back to NY. There's always rumblings about "lets make it four days, or play on the day we leave, etc...".

While I COULD play, I have to look at the other guys- and Most of them are dead by halfway through the 3rd round. They don't get out as often as I do so they're out of "golf shape", so to speak. The ones that want to add a day aren't really interested in the golf, they just want to hit another day at the casino and get another day away from the family.

Even when my wife and I go away for a week or so to Florida or Myrtle Beach, I will play 2 or 3 times. Yes, I get burnt out. I want to enjoy myself and not feel the need to just go out and play for the sake of playing.

And when and if I retire soon, Golf is low down on the must do all the time thing. I will follow what my Dad did. He played Mondays and Thursdays almost every week. Once a month there was a fun 9 hole thing when my Mom would play. And that was all he needed or wanted. If I visited, I would join HIS group, OR I would take him someplace nice like World Golf Village for a special outing and we might play two days in a row.

Living in an urban area limits my time and access to go out and play and actually enjoy it. I'm not gonna go out every day and be miserable. Even if we move to an area with a nice course nearby that I can join for a reasonable cost, every day is right out.
