What do you do for a living?

I am a drafting technician.

or...

drafting technologist (for a modern twist)
drafter (for simplicity)
draftsman (for an old-school twist)
draughtsman (for a hard-core old school twist)

I like my job very much!

Intern for the NC Department of Transportation and a full time student.

Who did you intern with? UBS? Credit Suisse?

Like 95% of those who try M&A, you should do your time and get the experience, but plan your exit strategy from day one. Get into the PE side or something... the hours will be more manageable.

By saying "plan your exit" you mean really mean "plan your next game of golf", right? My friends that work in investment banking cancel on our weekend games about 95% of the time because they have to be in the office at 9am on a saturday or sunday. Brutal hours, but you get compensated for it.

Hah.. unlike us CAs (and aspiring CAs) during busy season.

I just had a company come out and give me a quote on cutting a tree down in my backyard, I never realized how much that would cost. I think we have decided we will learn to love this tree after-all...

LOL. Our crew get that type of reply quite a lot. Unfortunately it is expensive, but when you take into account the price of insurance, publicliability, machinery (trucks, chipper, saws etc) and how much it cost to take the tree to the dump (if it can't be used for firewood or mulch) it makes more sense. That’s not including paying the crew and making a small profit.

Love the tree, it's cheaper. :) Unless it's dangerous and dropping branches.

We have a winner! :) What gave it away lol.

Pretty sweet one stop shopping for men, in my opinion. Also a great place to work. I understand we are pretty popular down in Florida?

You are pretty popular in NC as well

I like draftsman. For some reason, when I hear drafting technician, it seems to cheapen the cool work you guys do. I have relatives who do the technical drawing for specific tooling. They love it.

Yeah, chirpy. I was the same for a bit; cancelling pretty much all the plans I made (including golf). It was maddening at times. Nowadays, I still work a lot, but there are definitely good amounts of breaks between deals, etc. I now work in the distressed side of things.

If you can get in, do it. It opens many, many doors. But be sure to start exploring those doors immediately.

My family owns a local business. I help run the business while I'm in school.

I graduated from Washington & Jefferson College this past spring and currently am attending Duquesne University (in Pittsburgh), pursuing a Masters in Social Studies Education (7-12). I'm also a football coach.

"Drafting Technician" is my actual job title. I prefer draftsman myself. The only problem with draftsman is that it is gender specific, and there are an increasing number of women taking up drafting as a career choice. So "drafter" would be fine with me as well.

I suppose adding "technician" or "technologist" was a way to distinguish CAD-driven drafting from the old-style hand-drawn variety. I don't think the distinction matters, though - the goal is the same either way.

Yet another case of all this politically correct crap. You and the wonen in your profession are still a deaftsman. End of.

A male Midwife in a hospital is still called a Midwife. Not a baby delivering technician.

Congrats buddy! I know you are going to rock it.

Good luck in your new position, d in la.

Was in construction (drywall) for years and am now in natural hoof trimming for horses. Love being outside and working with animals and making my own hours. Downside: getting bit and kicked on occasion.

Own an insurance agency that my dad started in 1976.

Thanks Fellas, I'm pretty excited to try the bay area on for a while. Although I found out this week that I was the top finalist for a pretty sweet job in Kentucky (they were going to fly the top 3 in) all good though!

The problem is ... as I type this ... I'm still in Los Angeles!! I picked up a 4-pack of Bing energy drinks for the road tomorrow! :D

I am a mortgage closer. Been in the mortgage business for about 9 years. Every since high school.

I am about to start nuring school. I am a tech. Here in Jax, Fl they use Paramedics as nursing assistants and we do pretty much everything but give medication. I absolutely love the hours! Those 12 hour days get long at times but well worth it. Esp today since I spent most of the day on the forums - a very rare slow afternoon in the ER.
