    The Duke's St Andrews

I'm playing The Duke's St Andrews, http://www.oldcoursehotel.co.uk/golf/dukes_landing.html, on Monday with my Bunkered subscription voucher. Wondered if anyone had played here before and what they thought? Will provide some feedback after I have played.

I've never played it, but I've heard it is pretty good, and a little tough from some of the tees! Hope you get a good day for it again.

The Duke's is certainly a pretty course.

not played it yet, did play the kintyre at turnberry using my voucher and it was fab, i am playing the dukes in June. I did speak with our club pro and the company that owns my home course also owns The Dukes and he say it can be a very tough course if you play form the back tees, he said play from the forward tees and it will be more enjoyable.

Not sure which tees we will be playing from but it certainly won't be the back tees!! Hopefully they have something in between the back tees and the forward tees.

I really need to play more of my local courses, the list is getting bigger and bigger lol
All of the courses in the St Andrews area tend to be very good/excellent, I don't see how this would be an exception to the rule.

they do have a few inbetween tees, the shortest are the reds, then the whites then the green then the blue and the longest the blacks.

Let me know what you think. Will be there in a few weeks and have Old, New and Jubilee lined up so far. Looking for a last minute option on the only day currently open if we don't make the ballot on the Old and I think the Dukes is not too hard to get on last minute in May I'm told.

I'll try to take some pictures but that relies on 2 things. 1) I remember my camera 2) I'm not battling the wind and rain.

Going by that we will probably be playing from the green or blue I would think.

Hope you get on through the ballot, but if not - make friends with the staff in the Old Course hotel, they'll be able to get you on the Duke's and it shouldn't be a problem.

I have played once, and I liked it.
On the same week, I played Turnberry, Canoustie ,Kingsbern, and Old course.
Dukes is more American style course with attractive view from tee.
Green and yellow (flowers ) contrast is so pretty .
I got a free round as the benefit of old hotel stay by Amex FHR.

Luckily, we are staying at the Old Course Hotel as a matter of fact - good karma

I played here yesterday. The weather wasn't great, there was a little drizzle when we started but it stopped after a couple of holes but it was overcast, windy and cold for the whole round. The course was very wet as there had been a lot of rain overnight and in the morning, there were quite a few puddles and areas of casual water which meant there was little run on the fairways. Apart from this the course was in great condition, the greens were firm and fast but still receptive.

The first 5 or 6 holes reminded me of some courses in the Highlands like Boat of Garten or Spey Valley, but with longer holes, the rest of the course reminded me of The Carrick in places. It is a very hilly course with some long walks between greens and tees, the walk from the 9th green to 10th tee must be about 5 or 10 minutes. We played off the white tees, 6550 yards, which were the middle tees which was probably about right for our group. The course was really quiet yesterday, I think we only saw another 2 groups on the course.

I played quite well on the front nine and was out in 39 (+3). A shocking start to the back nine, +6 for the first 5 holes, ruined any chance of a decent score. +1 for the final 3 holes made it slightly more respectable at 42 (+7) for an 81 (+10). That wasn't too bad considering the conditions and the start I had to the back nine.

It is a really nice course and is supposed to have great views but we couldn't see them for the clouds yesterday. I would probably recommend playing it in the summer as the fairways will be drier and you should get some run which will make some of the holes play easier.
