Reshaft My Putter??

Let me start by saying I am no equipment guru, so I wanted to ask a question. In the past I have used a 35" putter, and now I am using a 34" putter, but I feel it is too short for me. I am 6'1" and I feel like I am hunching over my putter more now and it is not comfortable to me at all. I also feel this affecting my confidence in the club as it doesn't feel natural to me anymore. I am thinking of extending the club about an inch and a half.

So my question is, do I have to reshaft the club to get an extra inch or so? My boss had mentioned something about they have an extension that you can put in it and not have to reshaft it, but I had never heard of something like that before. I also plan on regripping the club as well due to the fact I am not crazy about the grip and even less thrilled with the color scheme of it.

yep, i added an inch and a half to one of my putters recently with an extension. its perfect

It's going to depend on what you want, for what you get, CM.

Yes, the extensions are available. Keep in mind though, that they're going to change the balance point of the putter differently than a new shaft would. Another thing: since it's an extension, it may have little different feel than a whole new shaft would. I don't know how sensitive you are to the feel of your putter, so keep that in mind as well.

When you carry it in to a shop, the labor will be similar for either procedure, and the cost of a plug isn't much less than a whole new shaft. You'll be buying a new grip either way.

That is what I was concerned with, definitely want a good feel to it. So what would recomend then Gummi??

I'd go ahead and throw a new shaft in it, if it were me.

Do some research, and see who's shaft they use. True Temper and Nippon both make shafts. *I'm not sure if Nippon offerers an over-the-counter double bend shaft, you may have to find a real clubsmith to do the bending for you*

There are also a few graphite putter shafts on the market if you really want the feeling of a rock on the end of your stick.



If I were putting a new shaft in my putter, I'd go with the heavy Nippon, but the UST does intrigue me. I'd like to learn more about it.

I want to go through a putter fitting one of these days, and have my loft and lie adjusted so I don't have to do a forward press to get the feel I want (maybe it'll help with my consistency too!)

We use only FST shafts for our putters. They are a great company.
