I just read that article. Interesting.

I'm not sure what to make of this one. I had heard last week that Mayfield denied ever taking meth (surprise, surprise), for some reason I believe him. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

OH YESSSSSS! I had no idea we had a NASCAR thread on here!!!!!!!!!! To save myself some time from reading this long thread that ya'll started long before me, I'm going to throw out my NASCAR positions/loyalties to see where everyone stands.

I became a NASCAR fan 5 years ago. Since then, I've been to Texas Motor Speedway everytime they have a race. The person I went with 5 years ago made me blindly pick a driver to be loyal to and I picked 26 Jamie McMurray. GRANTED, I realize he's not the top driver out there, but I always watch and cheer for him in a race. I was almost asleep when he won that crazy Daytona 500 2 years ago.

I love watching and going to the races. I am also a big NHRA fan and have picture with most modern big time drivers. I go to these events also and they are great!!!!

Any other NHRA fans?? I also watch SDBA (Southern Drag Boat Association) and go to the boat races a couple of times a year. Dying sport for sure.

We used to to to the SDBA races out at Marine Creek when I was a kid. They were always fun. Girl I dated in high school, her dad fitted out Contenders, I got to spend some time ripping around in one, tons of fun doing 100 across the water.

I don't watch hardly any drag racing any more, used to go out to Kennedale and Ennis pretty often though. I've raced at both tracks.

I prefer off road racing over everything else anymore. I'm part of a team out of Rockwall. We go down and do the Baja 1000 every year in a Class 3.

I finally made it to a NASCAR event this year, one of my subs invited me. Twerpy and I went and spent the day. I got to go sit in Jack Rousch's seats (he's good friends with the owner of the company I was a guest of) and watch a good bit of the race. That was pretty darn cool. 30 rows up above the Start/Finish at TMS. I'm looking forward to November race, I'll have to put off a weekend of hunting to go.

I go to Ennis every year. Baytown near Houston too. Love all of it. Never been to Baja 1000. That might be something new for me to see!!! Let me know when that comes up so I can look into going. I'll def make NASCAR in November. Haven't missed one yet. You will enjoy it. Its a different type of racing with a different experience. Tailgating is the best part :). You had some darn good seats there in April!!!

Baja is November 19-22 this year. It starts in Ensenada. This year should be a point to point race again (in 2007 it went to Cabo, 2005 was to LaPaz, on even numbered years it's generally a loop). They haven't released any course information yet, so I don't know how long it'll be, or where it's going to end up. It's a non-stop race, you've got "x" number of hours to travel the course (usually averaging 30mph), and times to make the checkpoints or you're DQ'd. All repairs are made on course, there are pit stops for fuel and repair every 50-100 miles.

I don't follow NASCAR at all, but Jeremy Mayfield tested positive for meth again.

NASCAR: Jeremy Mayfield again tests positive for meth - ESPN

Mayfield's July 6 test positive for meth

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR on Wednesday filed court papers asking that Jeremy Mayfield's indefinite suspension for violating the sport's substance abuse policy be reinstated after his most recent test came up positive for methamphetamines.

Court documents also included affidavits that Mayfield is a longtime user of the illegal drug.

"We say to the court that Jeremy flouted both this Court's authority and NASCAR's Substance Abuse Policy by ingesting the same illegal drug that he has repeatedly denied taking within days of the Court's granting of the preliminary injunction," court documents said.

Mayfield once again denied ever using the illegal drug.

"I don't trust anything NASCAR does, anything [program administrator] Dr. David Black does, never have, never will," Mayfield told The Associated Press in a phone interview.

An affidavit by Mayfield's stepmother, Lisa, said "she has personal knowledge of Mr. Mayfield using and even manufacturing methamphetamine, including his usage of methamphetamine before a race as far back as a decade ago."

"I first saw Jeremy using methamphetamine in 1998 at Jeremy's shop on Jackson Road in Mooresville, North Carolina," she said. "Jeremy cooked some of his own methamphetamine in his shop by the house until the stores took pseudoephedrine off the shelves. In addition to making methamphetamine for his own use, I am aware that Jeremy has bought methamphetamine from others."

She testified to seeing Mayfield use methamphetamine approximately 30 times throughout the years, including at least once before a race.

"I was concerned about his heavy use and talked to his father about it,'' said Lisa, whose husband has since passed away. "I saw Jeremy use methamphetamine by snorting it up his nose at least [30] times during the [7] years I was around him. Jeremy used methamphetamines not only in my presence, but also when we were both in the presence of others.

"Jeremy told me that he did methamphetamine before the [NASCAR awards ceremony in New York] when he drove for Ray Evernham."

She also referred to a 1999 trip to Myrtle Beach the week before the Darlington race.

"I saw Jeremy using methamphetamine in Myrtle Beach,'' she testified. "We left Myrtle Beach and traveled to Darlington for the race. I saw Jeremy using methamphetamine again when we reached Darlington."

Mayfield angrily contested his stepmother's account.

"Now they got this lying [expletive] to tell lies about me, someone I am embarrassed even uses the Mayfield name. She's tried everything she can do to get money out of me, I won't help her, so I guess she found a way to get money from NASCAR by giving them an affidavit full of lies."

Mayfield originally tested positive for methamphetamines on May 1 and was suspended eight days later. He was granted the injunction lifting the suspension two weeks ago in federal court by Judge Graham Mullen.

An attorney for Mayfield filed documents earlier Wednesday arguing that the temporary injunction lifting the suspension of the driver for violating NASCAR's substance abuse policy should stand.

The filing was an answer to the appeal by NASCAR arguing that Judge Mullen's ruling should be overturned because Mayfield was a danger to the sport.

Mayfield's attorney, John Buric, said he filed 17 exhibits arguing his point.

"There's nothing really to comment on other than we believe Judge Mullen was right and we don't believe there are any grounds for NASCAR to seek any stay from the 4th Circuit," Buric said. "The order should stand as it is."

NASCAR countered with the results of the test Mayfield took at his home on July 6.

Court documents said the test was conclusive and that additional tests were performed to exclude the possibility that the results were a combination of Adderall and Claritin-D as Mayfield has claimed.

"My only comment is that's their result," Buric told AP. "But what I want you to keep in mind is that test was performed by the defendants in the case. Aegis Laboratories and Dr. Black are defendants in this case. I don't know if NASCAR has the right to ask the defendant to test Jeremy's urine sample. It ought to be done independently, but NASCAR didn't do that."

Buric said the law firm had Mayfield tested at an independent lab "not associated with NASCAR" and the results were negative.

Documents also said Mayfield's urine sample was "very dilute," an indication that an excessive consumption of water was consumed "in an effort to defeat a drug test."

The filing also said the "B" sample remains sealed and available for testing at another laboratory, a point of contention in the initial claim. Mayfield's attorney argued that because the original "B" sample was tested at the same laboratory, Aegis, employed by NASCAR to conduct the first test that the results were compromised and should be thrown out.

Buric acknowledged the two sides are still haggling over a lab for the "B" sample and said NASCAR rejected the lab Mayfield's side had picked.

NASCAR hopes the latest test eliminates any doubt that the first tests were legitimate.

"Because Mr. Mayfield's repeated and confirmed use of methamphetamine violates NASCAR's Substance Abuse Policy, and because NASCAR must be permitted to protect the safety of its drivers, crews, and fans, as well as the integrity of the sport, Defendants respectfully request that the Court immediately vacate its July 7, 2009 Order and reinstate NASCAR's suspension of Mr. Mayfield," court documents said.

For being so adamant about being clean, he sure put himself in alot of situations where people would know he was taking it. I am curious if Jeff Burton knew that he was using, he was very vocal about Jeremy and the accusations.

Nooooo, he doesn't sound like a overly defensive tweeker addict at all . . .
Jeremy Mayfield accuses stepmother, NASCAR of lying - ESPN

Mayfield comes out swinging
ESPN.com news services

Jeremy Mayfield didn't spare his stepmother or NASCAR in defending himself against Wednesday's report that he has again tested positive for methamphetamines.

NASCAR filed court papers on Wednesday saying that his most recent drug test came back positive and including an affidavit from Mayfield's stepmother Lisa who claims to have seen the racer using drugs on numerous occasions.

Mayfield said he does not trust NASCAR testing and saved his strongest words for his stepmother.

"She's basically a whôre," he told ESPN.com's David Newton. "She shot and killed my dad."

Mayfield's father Terry died in 2007 at age 56 of what the Chapel Hill, N.C., medical examiner called a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Nevertheless, Mayfield told ESPN.com on Wednesday that his stepmother will be served with a wrongful death suit on Thursday.

"She knows what we've got on her," Mayfield said. "For her to come out and do this is pretty ballsy. Everybody that's ever known me knows I never, ever have been around her for more than 10 hours of my life. She's a gold digger. I knew that from Day 1."

Although he said he has no proof, Mayfield claimed that NASCAR paid Lisa Mayfield for her affidavit.

"It wouldn't take much money. She tried to get money from me," Mayfield said. "I have a very short fuse when it comes to her."

Mayfield said he has been tested for drugs every two to five days by an independent lab and never tested positive. He said it was no coincidence that the tests by NASCAR's lab resulted in his suspension and now another positive test. In blasting NASCAR, he went straight for the top, chairman Brian France.

"Brian France talking about effective drug programs is like having Al Capone talking about effective law enforcement," Mayfield said.

Mayfield, who was suspended in May for a violation of NASCAR's substance abuse policy, had been granted a temporary injunction against his suspension ... before this latest test. Now, he has no interest in getting back on the track and will instead concentrate on fighting these latest troubles.

"They're playing this high school [expletive], they better be ready," Mayfield said of NASCAR. "I'm coming after them in a big way. I'm prepared to go all the way and have the backing to do it if it takes everything I've got. I'm not going to back down for something I didn't do."

Wow, this story is hard to believe. Mayfield needs to STFU and lay low, he isn't helping his cause by speaking to the press.

Hah! Laying low and S'ingTFU are not strong points with Tweekers! :D

Who hasn't called their stepmonsters a gold digging ***** before? C'mon Jeremy, get off the pipe and think of something better than that.

Ok, that right there is funny, I dont care who you are...hehe

He's probably pissed because she was stealing his stash.

Mayfield pretty much has zero credability now that he tested positive AGAIN. I was willing to give the man the benefit of the doubt, but not anymore...

First make him clean my house and organize my garage by color, use, and alphabetical order.

Me too, he needs to go away now.
From what I understand, the team is up for sale because of a lack of funding; so he likely will go away.
As much as I hate to see a Toyota team go away, Ive lost all respect for Jeremy Mayfield.
