I had my first launch monitor experience earlier this month. Like most golfers the machine revealed a few surprises:
1. I happily play a regular flex, but my swing speed is that low?
2. I play a higher loft driver (Callaway FT-Iq was my regular gamer) and my Anser 9.5 is actually a better driver for me.

What is not shown in the chart below is the shot dispersion. With my Anser, using the stock TFC 800D (Torque 5.0, Weight 54g, Launch mid), the shot grouping was much tighter than any of the other options listed. Visualize a nickel vs. a fifty cent piece.

I realize that launch monitors are a tool for a business to generate revenue by post fitting sales
+ I know next to nothing about shafts = a more expensive than needed purchase. I am hoping that the shaft gurus here can guide me towards some shaft options that will help add distance while keeping the shot groupings tight. I’m all about improving my game I just can’t break the bank while doing it.

Please ask any questions and thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Testing parameters: TrackMan fitting was outside, mid 90's using limited distance hard range balls. Average data listed.

I'd stick with you have DufferToo.

Hey Duffer... Having played with you, I would think that a regular flex shaft would certainly be just fine for you paired with a driver that has lots of forgiveness on off center hits. None of the super expensive shafts, (in my opinion), would make sense for you. That's something that you work into once your game improves and becomes more consistent.

Nice to see that you are taking steps to find some equipment that works for you and working on improving. I look forward to seeing you in Vegas, if not before that.

Based solely on this chart, obviously the Ping Anser is the better of the bunch numbers-wise...

I would like to see you hit the 12* Anser or even a G25 with the correct shaft. Speaking of shafts, a great shaft that wouldn't break the bank for you would be ProLaunch Blue 65 R. You can see the specs HERE and HERE...

Thank you for your responses.

I'd stick with what you have DufferToo.
Hawk,
I definitely understand the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" thought process. I gamed the Anser for the first time yesterday and found that the on-course results were similar to the TrackMan. There are worse things than being short and straight off the tee.

Rob,
Glad to see you have recovered from the Villa Crawl so quickly.
Yes, I am definitely a regular flex guy. It was just a bit shocking to know that I am so close to "A" flex. As you know, I'm not always the most consistent with my driver which is why I returned to gaming my Callaway FT-Iq Squarewood after our round. As forgiving as the FT-Iq is the Anser's dispersion was outstanding. I'm open to new clubs and the Tech was really talking up the X-Hot until he flipped to the screen showing the shot grouping, then it was "uh, why don't we try the Phenom in your Anser to try to pick-up some more carry".

Hopefully I can get this sorted out soon. I'm looking forward to Vegas as well, maybe the NorCal group can can get together between now and then.

Fourwiggle,
I plan on returning and hitting the 12* Anser as well as several shafts in both my 9.5* and the 12* when I have the chance. I will also try the G25 while I'm there. Thank you for the shaft recommendation.

Great idea. Don't discount the 12* maybe adjust it to the minus (-) setting and you'll have 11.5* or try the 10.5*. Low spin head (your spin numbers are good btw) combined with a shaft that fits you is a good recipe.

If you could increase your club head speed that would be even better but I know there are limitations; however, if you could get to the low-mid 90s you'll get about 2 1/2 yards for every 1 mph of club head speed. So you can do the math, 8 mph = 20 yards. This could be achieved by technique along with proper equipment...
