Any low handicappers not take the game up until 30's or later?

I took it up at 35. For years and years, I thought golf was for old men and rich people. I'd always preferred the major sports. But when I'd gotten too old for football, couldn't find 18 guys to play baseball with, and gotten too fat for basketball-- I needed someway to fuel my competitive fire.
So one day my dad took me out and I was hooked. 4.5 years later: I'm addicted. Been working to get handicap down (15 now). But I'm getting better every year.

I feel like golf has saved me.

46 and not low, but looking forward to going as low as I can. Hovering in and out of single digits. More important than a handicap, I want one that travels and I feel good about.
