I have had 3 labs that hated water. I dunno.

nerf, speaking of the ocean, I take our Lexi to the ocean on a weekly basis for dog-washing and flea management (and for her mental well being). I toss one of my flip-flops for her to retrieve (a tennis ball keeps her mouth too wide open and she swallows too much sea water), and she is quite the surfer dog. Her retrieving instinct is so strong she has no fear of waves at all. People will sometimes gather to watch her plow through waves or ride them in. I'll take some pics this weekend.

This was our Lexie ' first time ever in the ocean and she learned the hard way about the salt water. She threw up her breakfast when we got back. Luckily the house we are staying at has a screened in porch so she was out there drying off when it happened.
My dog has the biggest webs in her feet I've ever seen and she can't swim a lick. She fell off a lake dock once and went right to the damn bottom. I had to drag her out by her collar.

I guess just cause they're retrievers doesn't make love of water automatic. I recall that with my previous dog, a Golden, when she was a puppy I had to crawl into the shallows at a local pond and call her to get her used to water. Once she got used to it though, I couldn't keep her away. If we were walking along any water, she would run to every opening at the bank and look back like 'Can I go in Daddy?'.

Sadly our oldest one may be put down soon joey aka jojo monster... has doggie Alzheimer's at 14 he has had a good life adopted him from a shelter 12 yrs. ago he had been there for six month's. sadly now he becomes confused and seems lost . We have him on Prozac on to control his episodes but now it is starting to get worse...

Really sorry to hear this. Having just been through it in our family, its tough. They give us so much and ask for so little. Will be thinking of you guys as you decide what is best.
