Driving into the office this morning I heard one of my favorite songs. Chicken Fried by the Zac Brown band. One of the lyrics that always stands out to me is the following:

Well its funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most
Not where you live or what you drive or the price tag on your clothes
There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind this I've come to know
So if you agree have a drink with me
Raise you glasses for a toast
To a little bit of chicken fried

Looking back on the year with all the difficulties I think almost all of us have experienced in some way or fashion that part of the song just really resonated with me today.

I also thought that it would be fun to hear y'alls favorite lines from songs. Doesn't have to be deep. It can be funny or quirky or just something that you like it. Looking forward to reading the responses.

A couple from Buffett.

From Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude:

Oh, yesterday's over my shoulder
So I can't look back for too long
There's just too much to see waiting in front of me
And I know that I just can't go wrong

From Migration:

Yeah, and that's why it's still a mystery to me
Why some people live like they do
So many nice things happenin' out there
They never even seen the clues

...When you feel life ain't worth living
You've got to stand up, and
Take a look around, look up way to the sky,
And when your deepest thoughts are broken
Keep on dreamin' boy, when you stop dreamin' it's time to die
And I don't want to die
And as we all play parts of tomorrow
Some ways we'll work, and other ways we'll play,
But I know we can't all stay here forever
So I'm gonna write my words on the face of today
And then they'll paint it...

There are too many to list...

I can't think of any poignant lines that strike me right now though. There are the funny ones that are "misheard"... like that one - "racked up like a deuce another runner in the night..." or - "she got electric boots"... or those ear worms - "here's my number, call me maybe..." or - "baby shark... doo doo doo doo...":ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I'm a lyrics guy through and through. Just off the top of my head, I have always enjoyed all of the lyrics of Train's Angel in Blue Jeans and 50 Ways to Say Goodbye. But these 2 lines I love too:

From Al Stewart's The Year of the Cat: She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running like a watercolor, in the rain
From R.E.M.'s Begin the Begin: Silence means security, silence means approval, on Zenith on the TV, tiger run around the tree, follow the leader, run and turn into butter

From John Denver's Poems, Prayers and Promises:

I've been lately thinking about my life's time
All the things I've done, how it's been
And I can't help believing in my own mind
I know I'm gonna hate to see it end

I'm a yankee but always loved the start of this Tom Petty song:
There's a southern accent, where I come from
The young 'uns call it country
The Yankees call it dumb
I got my own way of talkin'
But everything is done, with a southern accent
Where I come from

From a very underrated (IMHO) artist called John Moreland. He has loads I like, but this one in particular
(Song : Gospel)
I wanna make it out alive, never think about looking back
I wanna drive like hell when I steal the devil's Cadillac
I wanna take that old Eldorado down a dirt road
With "How I Made it Over" playing on the radio

And then another by Sunny Sweeney which just reminds me of all the people I never got to say goodbye too properly.
(Song : Unsaid)
You don't hear church bells on a Tuesday
Unless you're driving in a line
Headlights flashing on the highway
Never even said I'm sorry
Never even said goodbye
What I'd give for one more minute
Just to look you in the eye
Take all this sh*t and just forgive it
Know it's far to late for it to be reconciled
