Apply to these categories.... This is your opinion of yourself. No self defeatist please, error on up rather than down please.

Here are the categories | I could have broken it down more but I don't want to put people through all that work lol.

Lag Putting 6
Short Putting 6
Chipping 6
Bunker (green side) 6
Approach 100 in 7
Approach 150 in 6
Approach 200 in 7
Driver 5 (deducting points not for distance but for lost stokes off the tee. will usually have one awful driver swing per round that puts me in trouble)

I'm currently a 3.6 handicap for reference.

Lets see what shot scope says about these categories for my game.

Lag Putting - vs a scratch golfer I lost 0.17 from 20-30 feet and gain 0.05 from 30+ feet so I say that makes this a 7

Short Putting - this gets ugly. I have a -2.52 strokes gained inside 10ft to a 25hcp so that makes this category complete junk so I give myself a 1 here. This is the single most frustrating part of my game and if I could ever learn to putt I feel like I could be a half decent golfer.

Chipping - here I am actually losing 0.00 to a scratch and only 0.61 to a tour pro. Bunker play is the worst part of this as I lose .56 to scratch and .70 to a tour pro so if you take those out I would say my chipping is up there in the scratch + or journyman pro range. so here I"ll give myself an 8.5

Bunker (green side) - here is the downside of my short game as discussed above. I have to go all the way to a 20cap before I am positive strokes gained. I have no practice facility near me to work on bunker play and my most often played course has converted a lot of the more prominent bunkers that I would find myself in into grass bunkers. Gotta give myself a 3 here :(

Approach 100 in from 50-100yds SS tells me I'm losing 0.05 to a 5hcp so here I give myself a 6

Approach 150 in - here SS tells me that from 100-150 I"m gaining 0.01 on a scratch so that's a 7

Approach 200 in - from 150-200 yards I lose 0.54 strokes to a 5cap but gain 0.47 to a 10 so I"ll give myself a 5.5 here

Driver - I have to go all the way to a 20 cap before I am positive in strokes gained here. Sadly it's strictly due to penalties. so I have to give myself a 3 here. The sad part is before I developed a 2 way miss in mid June I was + strokes gained to a 10 and only losing about half a stroke to a 5. I need to find my driver swing again.

My driver and putter are my buddies. Chipping has always been my downfall. Approach from 200 was a strong part of my game but father time took care of that.

I’m happy with every aspect of my game except putting between 4-12 feet and it’s been the same story for 30 years. I had a lot of rounds this summer where I shot 74-76 and had 33+ putts or hit 14+ GIR and made only 1 or 2 birdies. I need a sports psychologist and may find one this winter. :)

For a baseline I am currently a 3.9 index. I bounce between 3 and 6 usually but generally live somewhere between 3.5 and 5.

Lag Putting: 7 - I very rarely 3 putt like maybe every other round. My lag putting is solid.
Short Putting: 5 - I don't feel like I make enough putts inside of 10 feet. I am pretty good from 3-4 but I don't feel like I make many.
Chipping: 7 - I am a good chipper. When I am greenside I get up and down quite a bit.
Bunker (green side): 1 - my greenside bunker game has been atrocious this year. I am getting better to the point it might be a 4 (15 hc) right now as I have stopped being an automatic double every time I am in a greenside bunker but it is still a work in process.
Approach 100 in: 7 - my wedge game out to 100 yards is excellent. My hc shows that as I am only about 30% for gir and I maintain a decent index.
Approach 150 in: 6 - I think I am about what my HC says .
Approach 200 in: 6 - I wind up hitting fairway woods a lot from this distance but I am generally around the green.
Driver: 4 - Again this hasn't been a strength of my game this year. It is on the upswing. I said a 15 handicap because I am not very long and earlier in the year was very crooked. Currently I am mostly not hitting balls sideways but still not hitting as many fairways as I would like.

I had given myself a 9 for 200yds and in. Iron play is basically the strength of my game because I spend all winter on a trackman. It made me think of this thread. But today I hit 17 consecutive 5 irons with a 8.9yd max spread from shortest to longest

Don't ask me to get up and down from a bunker or make a 9 foot birdie putt tho.

I was on the trackman today yelling like the guy in Wedding Crashers during flag football "LONG IRONS AND SMOKED MEAT ---THIS IS WHAT MTL DOES!!!!!

My game relative to my handicap is a total roller coaster. My last three rounds of the year, I feel like I couldn't do anything right for two rounds and then everything was working on my last round to actually drop my cap. Fun times lol

Lag Putting 4 right on the % for my hdcp
Short Putting 4-6 never awful sometimes I can’t miss.
Chipping - 4 feeling good about this right now.
Bunker (green side) 2 not junk but I know what my next lesson is
Approach 100 in 3 - a smidge worse than my hdcp.
Approach 150 in 4-a real strength of my game
Approach 200 in 3 - distance is a killer. anything over a seven iron gets interesting
Driver- 2 so so very short. Better than last year, but definitely keeping me from the next level

Fwiw I’m just under an 18 handicap. At least nothing is junk imo. The handful of “2”’s aren’t bad compared to my HCP.

Lag Putting - 5-6 depends on the day
Short Putting - 7 I save more strokes here than anywhere else...
Chipping - 5 Would have given myself a 3 at the beginning of the year, but I feel like I've improved a lot
Bunker (green side) - 4 Another vast improvement in my game, early this year it was an honest 1, i.e. 2-3 strokes to get out.... At this point I can get out in 1 most times, next up is distance control. A LOT of stokes saved this year with my improvement.
Approach 100 in - 5 Pretty good with a full swing SW, I have to take points away for that 50 yard range, but I have improved
Approach 150 in - 5 Decent with a PW and a 9 iron overall
Approach 200 in - 2 Burning dumpster fire, and that isn't being self defeatist.... ;)
Driver - 3-4 Significant improvement from last year, when I left it in the garage most days. I do hit some fairways and mostly keep it in play.

I would suggest putting course management in the abilities too.

ShotScope makes this pretty easy:
Lag Putting - 5, breaking this down to outside of 10 feet but it gets progressively worse the further out I am
Short Putting - 10, not 100% sure I believe this even if I do feel like I've putted great this year but SG says vs a Tour Player I'm +0.69 from under 10 feet
Chipping - 3, have had some struggles early in the year causing SG data to indicate poorly but it's been better last couple times out
Bunker (green side) - 4, numbers aren't great but I have no fear of being in a bunker
Welcome to the trash zone lol
Approach 100 in - 3, hate to admit it but even my wedges have had struggles this year
Approach 150 in - 1, maybe a gapping issue but the struggles from 100-150 really stand out when reviewing the data
Approach 200 in - 3, seems weird but the data says I'm way better from 150-200 than 150 and in
Driver - 4, since switching over to a 6.5 from TX shaft I've seen improvement in game off the tee. I'm losing yards (P-Ave 280 vs. 292) but I'm hitting way more fairways (37% vs. 22%)

Lag Putting - 5 Not awesome, maybe a little better than what I'd expect given from a 13.x
Short Putting - 6 Much improvement this year- pencil grip, lots of indoor practice, and not-quite Aimpoint Express have helped a lot.
Chipping - 6 Lots of around the yard practice this year has borne fruit.
Bunker (green side) - 4 had the yips lately. Happy just to get out in 1 these days.
Approach 100 in - 5 my yard lets me practice up to 60 yard shots, and I've put it to use this year.
Approach 150 in - 4 mid-long irons hold me back.
Approach 200 in - 4 mid-long irons hold me back.
Driver - 5 driving it longer than I ever have before, and keeping it in play much more as well.
