That triangle area has alot of decent golf for all sorts of different budgets. I drive down there frequently from VA especially during College Bball season. Would love to catch a round with you, @Jeff Spicoli and @Carolina Dundee .
 
Welcome to NC. Durham has a surprisinly good food scene. Pizzeria Toro downtown is good. Q-Shack for Barbecue. I had a couple of kids who went to college in Durham. Lots of fun places there and in Chapel Hill. Hillandale Golf club is a nice easy track. Has a good pro shop for a small town.
